        경기도 일부 어린이집 조리종사자의 내분비계 장애물질 인식도 및 노출 저감화 행동 조사

        Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are chemicals present in the environment that interfere with the normal hormone functions of various organisms and cause genetopathy, deformities, or cancer. This study surveyedthe awareness of EDCs with 242 cooking staff at 242 meal service facilities for children located in apart of Gyeonggi Province. To minimize infants’ exposure to EDCs, the subjects were provided with informationon EDCs for two months. The behavior of reducing exposure to EDCs was analyzed according to the awareness of EDCs and work ethics. In addition, the effects before and after being provided with the information were evaluated. According to the results, the levels of awareness of EDCs and work ethics’ scores of the cooking staff were high with 3.95 and 4.39 points, respectively, out of five points. In addition, a higher awareness of EDCs and a higher work ethics’ score were associated with an improved behavior of reducing exposure to EDCs (P<0.05). The overall cooking and cleaning behavior for reducing exposure toEDCs showed improvement after providing information (P<0.01). Therefore, these results suggest that it is important to provide continuous education to enhance the awareness of EDCs, work ethics, and behavior to reduce exposure to EDCs.

      • In silico method of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) prediction in chemical space

        Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are compounds that interfere with hormonal systems and disrupt normal endocrine function. EDCs can lead to an adverse health effect in exposed humans or other organisms. Recently, many experimental data of EDCs were reported, but it is not enough to understand to identify the EDCs. Therefore, the in silico methods were used as an alternative approach to identifying the EDCs. The in silico methods such as QSAR models and molecular docking were developed to predict endocrine-disrupting activity from environmental chemicals. However, the QSAR method had a limited applicability domain of chemicals in each model. Also, molecular docking was accurate, but it was time-consuming about large numbers of compounds. To overcome this, we clustered EDCs using the physicochemical properties and biological information of EDCs and constructed EDCs space. All chemicals with industry can be predicted whether a compound is EDCs or not in EDCs space.

      • EDCs 오염 하천수에 노출된 붕어, Carassius auratus의 생존율과 혈액학적 변화

        본 연구는 붕어, Carassius auratus의 생존율과 혈액학적 성상에 미치는 EDCs combination effect를 알아보기 위하여 수행하였다. EDCs-polluted water는 낙동강 구미 공업단지 하류에서 채수하였다. 실험구는 대조구와 3개 (50, 75 및 100%)의 EDCs-polluted water였으며, 실험기간은 16주였다. 생존율은 75%와 100% 농도구에서 대조구에 비해 유의적으로 감소하였다 (P<0.05). 혈액학적 성상은 대조구에 비해 100% 농도구에서 GOT, GPT, LDH 농도는 유의적으로 증가하였다 (P<0.05). 본 연구 결과, EDCs-polluted water는 붕어의 생존율 감소와 혈액학적 성상의 변화를 유도함이 확인되었다. This study aims to find out the EDCs (endocrine disrupting chemicals) combination effect on survival rate and hematological characteristics of the crucian carp, Carassius auratus. EDCs-polluted water was collected from downstream of the Gumi electric industrial complex of the Nackdong River. The experimental groups were composed of one control condition and three EDCs-polluted water conditions (50, 75 and 100%). The experimental period was 16 weeks. The survival rates of 75% and 100% exposure group were significantly decreased relative to the control (P<0.05). The concentrations of GOT, GPT and LDH in 100% exposure group were significantly increased relative to the control (P<0.05). The results of this study suggest that EDCs-polluted water induces reduction of survival rate and change of hematological characteristics in the crucian carp.

        Monitoring of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in Aquatic Environment

        The endocrine system is the body system that consists of endocrine glands and functions to regulate the growth, reproduction, and somatic activities of animals and humans. The EDCs (Endocrine Disrupting Compounds) interfere with endogenic hormones in certain ways, and may potentially cause the adverse effects on human and wildlife populations. In spite of increasing concerns about the adverse effects, there still remains considerable scientific uncertainty about the EDCs. The objectives of this study are to investigate the levels of EDCs in geochemical samples, and to offer a protocol for the monitoring of EDCs in an effort to make them more susceptible to aerobic biodegradation prior to entering an activated sludge process. The following EDCs were monitored in synthesized solutions: di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), pentachlorophenol (PCP), 4,4' -isopropylidenediphenol (bisphenol-A, BPA), 1,l-bis (4-chlorophenyl)-2,2,2-trichloroethane (p,p'-DDT)., 2,2-bis (4-chlorophenyl)-1,l-dichloroethylene (p,p-'DDE), and 1,2,3,4,5,6- hexachlorocyclohexane, ${\gamma}$-isomer (lindane, ${\gamma}$-BHC). The extraction and analysis of the EDCs were performed using mass spectrometry, and the analytical ability of GC-MS and LC-MS to detect target EDCs was compared. LC-MS has a significantly lower detection limit for the EDCs relative to GC-MS methods, and that it allows the identification of EDCs as almost intact molecules. Water samples were collected from urban sewage treatment plants and river/stream waters running through cities or farmlands. The monitoring of alkylphenols, chlorophenols and bisphenol-A was conducted with the samples. The effluent sample from GIST was the most contaminated sample by target EDCs. The concentrations of target compounds in samples of 2002 were higher than those of 2003, and the levels of target compounds in most effluent samples were relatively higher than those of river samples.

        질량분석법에 의한 내분비계 장애물질의 분석과 막 여과에 의한 제거

        다수의 잠재적인 내분비계장애물질이 환경에 방출됨으로써 새로운 환경문제로 세계적 관심이 모아지고 있다. 이러한 물질들을 측정하고 감시하기 위한 고감도이며 신뢰성 있는 분석방법의 개발이 필수적이다. 이 연구에서는 기체크 로마토그래피 질량분석법과 액체크로마토그래피 질량분석법이 내분비계장애물질들의 분석을 위해 이용되었으며 두 가지 분석방법들이 DEHP, BBP, PCP, BPA에 대해 비교 및 평가되었다 그 결과 액체크로마토그래피 질량분석법이 더 낮은 검출 한계를 나타내는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 액체크로마토그래피 질량분석법은 대부분의 순수한 분자들로서 내분비계장애물질들을 측정 가능함이 판명되었다. 이 연구에서는 음용수에서 내분비계장애물질들을 제거하는 방법으로 유기막과 세라믹막을 제시하였으며 십자류 나노여과 방식이 내분비계장애물질들을 100% 제거하는 것으로 조사되었고 분획분자량 250 나노여과는 내분비계장애물질을 제거함에 있어 효과적인 것으로 판명되었다. 나노여과, 고속한외여과, 저속한외여과의 투과플럭스와 물질전달계수와의 비는 0.67, 3.4, 그리고 0.44였으며 나노여과와 저속한외여과는 확산이 주요한 조건에서 운전되며 고속한외여과는 대류가 주요한 조건에서 운전된다. 더욱이, 확산이 주요한 나노여과와 저속한외여과에서 내분비계장애물질의 제거율이 높은 것으로 측정되었다. 한외여과에 의한 제거는 내분비계장애물질들의 분자량에 의존하는 것으로 조사되었으며 내분비계장애물질들은 확산이 주요한 수리동역학적 조건에서 제거됨이 판명되었다. As a number of potential endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) are released into the environment, recently growing attention has been drawn to them. Therefore sensitive and reliable analytical methods are essential to monitor those compounds. In this study, complementary CC-MS and LC-MS were employed to analyze the endocrine disrupters, and the results of two methods were compared for di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), benzylbutylphthalate (BBP), pentachlorophenol (PCP), and 4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol (Bisphenol-A, or BPA). The results indicate that it was possible to lower the detection limits of EDCs by LC-MS. Also, LC-MS enabled to identify the EDCs as almost intact molecules. Furthermore, this study presented a nanofiltration membrane (MWCO 250) and a ultrafiltration membrane (MWCO 1,000) filtration system as methods far removing EDCs from drinking water containing γ-BHC, p,p'-DDE, BBP, p,p'-DDT, DEHP, PCP, and BPA. Cross-flow type nanofiltrations showed 100% removal of EDCs, and the result implies that MWCO 250 nanofilter was sufficient for treatment of EDCs. The ratio of permeate flux to mass transfer coefficient of nanofiltration, high flux ultrafiltration, and low flux ultrafiltration with ultrapure water were 0.67, 3.4, and 0.44, respectively. It was found that nanofiltration and low flux ultrafiltration were operated at a diffusion dominant condition, and the high flux ultrafiltration was operated at a convection dominant condition. Furthermore, a diffusion dominant process attained reasonable rejection of EDCs. The removal in the ultrafiltration was depending on the molecular weight of an EDC, and the filtration was governed by diffusion-dominant hydrodynamic conditions.

        흡연유무에 따른 EDCs 인식 차이 연구

        This study utilizes an perception survey result of EDCs(Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals), and in order to compare the difference between EDCs perception levels as per smokers and nonsmokers. About 2,000 Korean citizens were surveyed, and were classified into smokers or nonsmokers, and afterwards, perception upon EDCs were comparatively analyzed. As a result of the analysis, overall, nonsmokers appeared to have a better awareness of EDCs. This study can be used as a base line data in terms of risk communication of EDCs.

        EDCs/PhACs의 단일,복합 조건에서의 GAC에 대한 흡착 연구

        The widespread occurrence of dissolved endocrine disrupting compounds(EDCs) and pharmaceutical active compounds(PhACs) in water sources is of concern due to their adverse effects. To remove these chemicals, adsorption of EDCs/PhACs on granular activated carbon(GAC) was investigated, and bisphenol A, carbamazepine, diclofenac, ibuprofen, and sulfamethoxazole were selected as commonly occurring EDCs/PhACs in the aquatic environment. Various adsorption isotherms were applied to evaluate compatability with each adsorption in the condition of single-solute. Removal difference between individual and competitive adsorption were investigated from the physicochemical properties of each adsorbate. Hydrophobicity interaction was the main adsorption mechanism in the single-solute adsorption with order of maximum adsorption capacity as bisphenol A ≻ carbamazepine ≻ sulfamethoxazole ≻ diclofenac ≻ ibuprofen, while both hydrophobicity and molecular size play significant roles in competitive adsorption. Adsorption kinetic was also controled by hydrophobicity of each adsorbate resulting in higher hydrophobicity allowed faster adsorption on available adsorption site on GAC. EDCs/PhACs adsorption on GAC was determined as an endothermic reaction resulting in better adsorption at higher temperature (40 ◦C) than lower temperature (10 ◦C#x25E6;C).

        일반인들의 EDCs 에 대한 인식과 위해성 설문조사를 통한 위해인식도 확인

        Since the exact definition and management system of EDCs differs according to each country and organization, it is necessary to establish a system for evaluation of basic information and transmission of correct information. In this study, we conducted a survey on the recognition of 2000 general public including the sensitive class. As a result, it was found that the general public "s awareness about EDCs was insufficient. Based on the results, it is necessary to establish the basis of the harmonized communication management system for the EDCs.

        A Study of Korean Pre-service Teachers’ Awareness, Exposure-Reducing Behaviors, and Educational Needs Regarding Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals

        The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers’ awareness of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), their exposure-reducing behaviors, and their needs for education about such chemicals. Data were collected from 222 pre-service teachers in early childhood programs at two Korean universities. The results of this study reveal that most pre-service teachers are aware of EDCs, and they have some knowledge and a high level of sensitivity to their negative effects. However, they do not take the active initiative to decrease exposure to these chemicals in their everyday lives. In addition, their class experiences do not significantly affect their awareness of EDCs or influence behaviors that reduce exposure to the chemicals. Thus, they present a high level of educational need regarding EDCs. Based on the findings, we discuss how to provide future early childhood educators with necessary education about EDCs.
