Objective: The purpose of this study was to quantify lesions on chest radiographs in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and analyze the severity of the lesions with clinical parameters. Materials and Methods: Two experienced radiologists reviewed chest radiographs of 28 patients with SARS. Each lung was divided into upper, middle, and lower zones. A SARS-related lesion in each zone was scored using a four-point scale: zero to three. The mean and maximal radiographic scores were analyzed statistically to determine if the scorings were related to the laboratory data and clinical course. Results: Forward stepwise multiple linear regression showed that the mean radiographic score correlated most significantly with the number of hospitalized days (p < 0.001). The second most significant factor was the absolute lymphocyte count (p < 0.001) and the third most significant factor was the number of days of intubation (p = 0.025). The maximal radiographic score correlated best with the percentage of lymphocytes in a leukocyte count (p < 0.001), while the second most significant factor was the number of hospitalized days (p < 0.001) and the third most significant factor was the absolute lymphocyte count (p = 0.013). The mean radiographic scores of the patients who died, with comorbidities and without a comorbidity were 11.1, 6.3 and 2.9, respectively (p = 0.032). The corresponding value for maximal radiographic scores were 17.7, 9.7 and 6.0, respectively (p = 0.033). Conclusion: The severity of abnormalities quantified on chest radiographs in patients with SARS correlates with the clinical parameters.
Predicting the Anthocyanin Content of Kyoho Grapes by Nir Spectroscopy

Kyoho grapes are in dark purple color. Anthocyanin plays a major role on the colors of berries, and contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer substance. The method of inspecting Anthocyanins so far is by either visual or destructive technique of using chemicals, but these methods could not carry out real-time accurate inspection. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of non-destructive inspection in predicting Anthocyanin content by near-infrared spectroscopy. This study used the NIRS 6500 spectrometer ranged from 400 to 2500 nm. The prediction model of Anthocyanin content of Kyoho grapes was established by near-infrared spectroscopy and concentration of Anthocyanin. The results of this study showed the reliability and feasibility of near-infrared spectroscopy on predicting the Anthocyanin content of grapes. In the future, the Anthocyanin content can be quickly predicted by spectroscopic techniques.

본 연구는 초경합금의 형조방전가공시 가공조건을 변화시켜 실행하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 공작물제거속도 및 전극소모비는 전류가 증가할수록 증가하고 있으나, 같은 조건의 전류에서 듀티팩터가 커지면 증가하다가 듀티팩터가 0.71에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 표면거칠기는 듀티팩더와 전류의 영향을 받아 듀티팩터 및 전류가 증가할수록 거칠어졌으며, 듀티팩터의 영향을 더 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 공작물 형상측정에서 테이퍼량 및 가공확대여유는 전류와 듀티팩터의 영향을 많이 받지만 방전시간이 길수록 휴지시간이 짧을수록 크게 나타났다. 방전 가공면은 용융층이 재융착 과정에서 미세흠이 형성되고 듀티팩터가 커질수록 표면 균열이 크게 나타났다. Experimental research was conducted by changing the EDMachining conditions of tungsten carbide. From the experimental study, the following results were obtained. Material removal rate(MRR) and the wear rate of electrode were increased by the higher current. But in the same condition of the current, those results were increased by increasing the duty factor but they were decreased when the duty factor was 0.71. The surface roughness was increased by increasing the current and duty factor. It was found that the surface roughness was more affected by duty factor. The micro crack was found on the EDMed surface during the process of redeposition in the melting layer and the more increased the duty factor was, the higher the crack of surface was.
해충저항성 Agb0101 벼 알레르기 유발 가능성 평가 연구

Genetically modified crops are becoming an increasingly important feature of the agricultural landscapes. Specially, insect-resistant GM crops are the most fast growing traits in the world. We developed Insect-resistant Agb0101 rice using the cry1ac1 gene in order to support the food safety assessment of insect-resistant Agb0101 rice containing modified Cry1Ac1 (mCry1Ac1) protein. The novel protein introduced into the genetically modified crops need to be evaluated for the potential allergenecity before their introduction into the food chain to address the safety concerns of consumers for commercialization. We performed assessment for allergy. The mCry1Ac1 protein does not possess the characteristics associated with food allergens, and no posttranslational change. The mCry1Ac1 protein can be rapidly degraded in gastric and intestinal fluids and heat treatment at 100oC. In conclusion, there is a reasonable certainty of no harm resulting from the inclusion of the mCry1Ac1 protein in human food or animal feed.

<P>Arabidopsis protein NCA1 interacts with catalases in the cytosol and increases catalase activity through maintaining catalase folding state, which is required for stress responses.</P><P>Catalases are key regulators of reactive oxygen species homeostasis in plant cells. However, the regulation of catalase activity is not well understood. In this study, we isolated an <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I> mutant, <I>no catalase activity1-3</I> (<I>nca1-3</I>) that is hypersensitive to many abiotic stress treatments. The mutated gene was identified by map-based cloning as NCA1, which encodes a protein containing an N-terminal RING-finger domain and a C-terminal tetratricopeptide repeat-like helical domain. NCA1 interacts with and increases catalase activity maximally in a 240-kD complex in planta. In vitro, NCA1 interacts with CATALASE2 (CAT2) in a 1:1 molar ratio, and the NCA1 C terminus is essential for this interaction. CAT2 activity increased 10-fold in the presence of NCA1, and zinc ion binding of the NCA1 N terminus is required for this increase. NCA1 has chaperone protein activity that may maintain the folding of catalase in a functional state. NCA1 is a cytosol-located protein. Expression of <I>NCA1</I> in the mitochondrion of the <I>nca1-3</I> mutant does not rescue the abiotic stress phenotypes of the mutant, while expression in the cytosol or peroxisome does. Our results suggest that NCA1 is essential for catalase activity.</P>
The simple and easy way to manufacture counter electrode for dye-sensitized solar cells

We previously developed poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (PVP)-capped Pt nanoclusters on ITO glass via a simple ‘‘2-step dip coating process” as counter electrode for DSSC. This new counter electrode was examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and current–voltage curve (I–V curve). The TEM results revealed that PVP-capped Pt nanoclusters’ size is about 3 nm, and the amount of Pt deposited on ITO glass is about 5 ㎍/㎠. Comparing with sputtered Pt and Solaronix thermal cluster Pt-catalyst T/SP, the PVP-capped Pt counter electrode has lower amount of Pt deposited on TCO glass,more positive potential of tri-iodide reduction, and better performance for the charge-transfer resistance (RCT) and the cell efficiency (g).

This study tried to evaluate the difference of stress degree by Sasang constitution and lifestyle for workplace labors, and suggested the preventive oriental medicine approaches in occupational health area. 479 data for research were collected through the process of oriental health examination with questionnaire in workplace, and collected data were analyzed with frequency, crosstab, and Two-Way ANOVA. The results were as follows: 1) All subjects, total 479 were men, and constitutional distributions were 39.2% of Taeumin, 32.4% of Soumin, and 28.4% of Soyangin. The distributions of stress score were 13.2% of normal group, 13.4% of high risk group, and 73.5% of potential risk group. 2) There were no statistically significant differences for stress by constitution(p=0.085). By the results of optimal scaling and homogeneity analysis, Soyangin was close to potential risk group compared to other constitution, and Soumin and Taeumin were close to high risk and normal group, respectively. 3) For the difference of stress score by Sasang constitution and lifestyle, Soumin who exercised nearly everyday had the highest stress score with interaction in Factor 4 area(p<0.05), and there was no interaction in other area. 4) For the difference of PWI score by lifestyle, there were statistically significant differences for drinking(p<0.01), smoking(p<0.01), and obesity index(p<0.01)

The bacteriostatic action of trichlorophenoxy alkylene ammonium derivatives, 2(2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy) ethylene N-triethyl ammonium bromide; (2,4,5-TETB), 2(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy) ethylene N-triethyl ammonium bromide; (2,4,6-TETB), 2,4,5-triphenoxy ethylene pyridinium bromide; (2,4,5-TEPB), and 2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy ethylene pyridinium bromide:(2,4,6-TEPB) were observed by Jackson and Finland's and Finland's and Pak's on Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexneri, and Bacillus subtilis, comparing with those of phenol and trichlorophenol. The following results were obtained. 1) Phenol is bacteriostatic in a concentration of $10^{-3}$ for all above species. 2) Trichlorophenol is bacteriostatic in concentration of $10^{-4}$ to $5{\times}10^{-5}$ for all above species(Table 7), 3) 2,4,5-TETB and 2,4,6-TETB are bacteriostatic in a concentration of $10^{-4}$ and $5{\times}10^{-5}$ for Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, and Shigella flexneri, but do not for E. coli and Bacillus subtilis(Table 8 and 9). 4) 2,4,5-TEPB and 2,4,6-TEPB are bacteriostatic in a concentrationof $10^{-4}$ and $5{\times}10^{-5}$ only for Staphylococcus aureus among four species(Table 10 and 11).
