Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify factors affecting the constipation of the elderly at nursing homes. Method: A total of 184 elders at 7 nursing homes in P City participated. Information about constipation status (Constipation Assessment Scale), functional status (Katz' Activities of Daily Living), nutritional status (Mini-Nutritional Assessment), and depressive symptoms (Geriatric epression Scale Short Form Korea version) were collected through interviews. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and t-test were used to describe and compare the non constipation group and the constipation group. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors affecting constipation status. Results: The prevalence of constipation was 47.5% (Men 37%, women 51%). Elders suffering from a disease (P=.021) and having low sleep satisfaction (P=.000) were more likely to be constipated than those who did not. The factors affecting the constipation of the elderly at nursing homes were gender (OR=3.558), sleep satisfaction (OR=.580), and depressive symptoms (OR=1.132). Conclusion: According to the result, to reduce the constipation rate of old women at nursing homes, we have to develop guidelines that can solve problems related to constipation cause by sleep-satisfaction and depressive symptoms.

This study was performed to find out the detoxication effects of natural products Thuja orientalis, leaf of acorn, aloe ferox mill, pine cone, pine root, lonicerae flos on nickel toxicity. The experimental rats were divided into 3 groups such as nickel alone treatment group, natural products treatment groups before and after nickel treatments. Each group was administered with difference dose of nickel such as 6.6 mg/kg/day, 13.2 mg/kg/day, 19.8 mg/kg/day respectively, for 14 days. Natural products were administered by 400 mg per kilogram body weight rat per day. The weight change of rats, nickel concentration in organs, survival rate of rats, morphology of organs were observed in the experimental groups. The results obtained by the experiment were as follows: 1. The rats in the group treated with natural products had no effect on the weight gain. 2. The mean survival rate of rats in the nickel alone treatment group was 72.5% (6.6 mg/kg/day), 68.9% (13.2 mg/kg/day), 60.2% (19.8 mg/kg/day) respectively. 3. As for the amount of nickel accumulation in organs, it was the lowest amount treated with pine cone, pine root in that order. 4. When kidney and liver tissues were observed with as optical microscope, obvious change were visible in those tissues treated groups with Lonicerae and Aloe.
Superoxide에 의존하여 내피세포에서 유리되는 이완성 물질의 특성에 대한 실험적 연구

최근 본 교실에서는 two-bath system을 이용하여 혈관 내피세포에서 superoxide에 의존한 혈관 이완성 물질을 동정하여 발표하였다. 본 실험에서는 상기 system을 이용하여 돼지의 관상동맥 내피세포에서 유리되는 superoxide에 의존한 이완성 물질이 고양이의 흥부 대동맥 내피 및 소의 대동맥 배양내피세포에서 얻어진 이완성 물질에 의한 이완과 매우 유사함을 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 고양이 흥부 대동맥, 돼지 관상동맥의 내피세포 및 소 대동맥 배양 내피세포 등에서 유리되는 superoxide에 의존한 이완 물질은 모두 유사한 이완 작용을 나타내었다. 2. 돼지 관상 동맥 내피세포에서 유리되는 superoxide 의존성 이완 물질이 고양이의 흥부 대동맥 내피세포나 소의 대동맥 배양 내피세포에서 유리되는 이완 물질과는 다소 다른 점도 있었다. 즉, 돼지 관상동맥 내피세포에서 유리되는 이완 물질의 작용은 catalase나 superoxide dismutase(SOD)에 의하여 억제되었으나, 후자의 두 동맥 내피세포에서 유리되는 이완 물질은 SOD에 의해서만 억제되었다. 3. 이러한 이완성 물질들의 생성은 여러 lipoxygenase억제제인 gossypol, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, AA 861 및 eicosatetraynoic acid 등의 전처치에 의하여 봉쇄되었다. 4. Cyclooxygenase 억제제인 indomethacin이 나 cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase 억제제인 proadifen과 cimetidine에 의하여는 봉쇄되지 아니하였다. 이상의 결과로부터 이러한 이완성 물질들은 비록 각기 다른 종의 동물 모델에서 얻었다고 하더라도 장기에 따라 다소 반응의 차이는 있으나 동질성 이완 물질이며, 나아가 이러한 이완성 물질은 여러 조직의 허혈-재관류 손상에 있어서 병리생리학적으로 관련될 것으로 사료된다. We recently reported a development of an experimental system which can identify the release of a superoxide-dependent vasorelaxant factor from endothelial cells using a two-bath system. In the present work, we further exploited the above system and observed whether the superoxide-dependent relaxing factor(s), released from the porcine coronary artery (PCA) endothelium, was similar in relaxation to those obtained from cat thoracic aortic endothelium and cultured endothelial cells of bovine aorta. However, there was observed a novel difference among the former one and the latter two relaxing factors; the release of relaxing factor from PCA endothelium can be inhibited either by catalase or by superoxide dismutase (SOD), whereas the latter two can be inhibited only by SOD. It was further attempted to characterize the synthetic mechanisms of the relaxing factors: (1) They were readily inhibited by various lipoxygenase inhibitors (gossypol, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, AA 861, and eicosatetraynoic acid). (2) They were not inhibited by cyclooxygenase inhibitor (indomethacin) and by cytochrome P-450 monooxygenease inhibitors (proadifen and cimetidine). Thus, it is likely that these relaxing factors, although obtained from different species, show common functional roles of arteriolar relaxation. It is suggested that they are related to pathophysiological involvement of various tissue ischemia-reperfusion injuries.
고등학생의 긍정심리자본과 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적 유연성의 매개효과

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effects of cognitive flexibility on the relationship between positive psychological capital and school life adjustment of high school students. Methods For the research high school students in Busan were surveyed and 227 students’ data were finally analyzed using SPSS. Correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between each variable, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to verify the mediating effects of the cognitive flexibility. Sobel Test was used to prove if the indirect effect of mediation variable was significant. Results First the result of this study showed that four components of positive psychological capital (self-efficacy, optimism, hope and resilience), cognitive flexibility, and school life adjustment of high school students had significant positive correlation. Cognitive flexibility on the relationship between four different resources of positive psychological capital and school life adjustment of high school students has been turned out to have partial mediating effects. Conclusions These results suggest the importance of psychological intervention to improve psychological capital (self-efficacy, optimism, hope and resilience) and cognitive flexibility that affect school life adjustment of high school students. 목적 본 연구에서는 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 자기효능감, 낙관주의, 희망, 회복탄력성과 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적유연성의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 부산광역시 소재 고등학생 227명을 대상으로 긍정심리자본, 인지적유연성, 학교생활적응 척도를 사용하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 프로그램을 사용하여 신뢰도 검증, 상관분석을 실시하였다. 그리고 인지적 매개효과를검증하기 위해서 위계적 중다회귀분석을 실시하였고, 매개효과의 간접효과 유의성을 검증하기 위해 Sobel Test를 실시하였다. 결과 첫째, 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 자기효능감, 낙관주의, 희망, 회복탄력성, 인지적 유연성, 학교생활적응 간에는 유의미한정적상관 관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 자기효능감과 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적 유연성이 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 낙관주의와 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적 유연성이 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 희망과 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적 유연성이 부분 매개하는 것으로나타났다. 다섯째, 고등학생의 긍정심리자본인 회복탄력성과 학교생활적응 간의 관계에서 인지적 유연성이 부분 매개하는 것으로나타났다. 결론 이러한 결과는 고등학생의 학교생활적응을 위해 긍정심리자본인 자기효능감, 낙관주의, 희망, 회복탄력성과 인지적 유연성이주요한 심리적 변인으로 다루어져야 함을 의미한다.
Carnosine Promotes Exhaustive Swimming Capacity in Mice

To investigate the effect of carnosine on exhaustive exercise, swimming tests were carried out with loads corresponding to 5% of body weights attached to the tails of mice weekly, and the swimming time to exhaustion were measured. Eighty male ICR mice were divided into four groups, to which carnosine was administered at doses of 0 (control), 10, 50, and 250 mg/kg/day, respectively, for 4 weeks. At the end of swimming exercise challenges, serum biochemistry, oxidative stress enzymes activity, and antioxidant enzymes activity in tissues were determined. Treatment of the 250 mg/kg carnosine significantly increased the swimming times to exhaustion compare to the control group in the first (P<0.01) and third week (P<0.05). The serum lactate levels after the swimming exercise were significantly lower in the carnosine-treated groups (10 and 250 mg/kg) than in the control (P<0.01). The malondialdehyde levels in the liver (10 and 50 mg/kg carnosine treated groups) and skeletal muscle (250 mg/kg carnosine treated group) were significantly lower than in the control (P<0.05). The protein carbonyl levels in the skeletal muscle were significantly lower in the 50 and 250 mg/kg carnosine treated groups than in the control (P<0.01). The superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities in the skeletal muscle were not significantly different among the groups. These results indicate that carnosine may improve swimming exercise capacity by attenuating production of lactate and reducing the oxidative stress in mice.
조영제의 혈관내 투여로 인한 부작용의 발생에 관한 전향성 연구

In this prospective study, it was aimed to survey the incidence of untoward reactions and overall problems occurred when iodinated contrast media was used for the purpose of diagnostic radiology. So, the causes of adverse reactions to the contrast media in 34 patients were analyzed from 474 cases, and the following results were obtained : 1. The incidence of adverse reactions were noticed in 34 cases among 474 cases. (7.15%) 2. Positive allergic history or previous examinations was not related to present examination statistically. 3. The erythema, less than 2mm in diameter after skin test was not paralleled with the occurrence of side reaction, but when over 5mm, it was significantly associated with the reaction. 4. The incidence was neither related to sex or age, but the frequency was especially lower in person, below 20 years of age. 5. The frequent symptoms and signs in side reactions were chilling (24.5%), nausea (22.6%), and flushing (15.1%) 6. The dosage of Hypaque or dorray had correlation with the incidnece of side reactions, but Urografin and Biligrafin did not. 7. Patients experiencing fear and anxiety did not show any relationship in the incidence of adverse reactions.
The Inhibitory Effects of Cannabinoids of Cannabis Against Human Skin Melanoma Cells

Geraniol (1), olivetol (2), cannabinoids (3 and 4) and 5-fluorou.a.il (5). were tested for their growth inhibitory effects against SK-MEL-3 cell lines using two different 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol- 2yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and sulforhodamine B protein (SRB) assay. These compounds showed inhibitory activity in vitro in the micromolar range against SK-MEL-3 cell lines. In general, the antitumor activity of these compounds (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) was in a dose-dependent over the micromolar concentration range $1\;to\;100{\mu}M$. The comparison of $IC_{50}$ values of these compounds in tumor cell lines shows that their susceptibility to these compounds decrease in the following order : OLVTL > CBG > CBD > 5-FU > CRNL in MTT assay, CBG > OLVTL > CBD > GRNL > 5-FU in SRB assay. Cannabinoids (3 and 4) and 5-fluorouracil (5) were tested for their cytotoxic effects on NIH 373 fibroblasts using two different MTT assay and SRB assay. These compounds exhibited potent cytotoxic activities in vitro in the micromolar range against NIH 373 fibroblasts. In general, the cytotoxic activities of these compounds (3, 4 and 5) were in a dose-dependent over the micromolar concentration range $1\;to\;100{\mu}M$. The comparison of $CD_{50}$ values of these compounds on NIH 373 fibroblasts shows that their susceptibility to these compounds decrease on the following order ; CBD > 5-FU > CBG in MTT assay and SRB assay. Cannabigerol (3) was shown the least cytotoxic activity on NIH 373 fibroblasts. Cannabigerol (3) exhibited the most growth-inhibitory activity against SK-MEL-3 cell lines.
