The study aimed at examining native English teachers’ and Korean EFL teachers’ understanding and teaching experience of epistemic modals. For the study, a total of 51 teachers participated in the online survey, and 11 of them had a follow-up interview. The results revealed that Korean teachers’ under- standing was surprisingly low, indicating 10.94% of accuracy rate on average while native English teachers showed 94.74% of accuracy rate. The two groups’ mean score was statistically significant (p<.05). Concerning both groups of the teachers’experience of epistemic modals, while 78% of them had teaching experiences, both groups of the teachers merely focused on forms and meanings, not semantic system, which concerned a hierarchy for logical meanings. Finally, significance of understanding and using functions of epistemic modals was discussed.
효율적인 에너지 관리에 대한 관심이 증가하면서, 스마트그리드 기술이 주목 받고 있다. 스마트그리드 기술은 거의 실시간으로 전기수요를 예측하여 전력의 낭비를 줄이고, 정확한 전력 품질 측정을 통한 전력 품질 개선에 목적이 있다. 그러나 스마트미터들이 네트워크로 서로 연결되어 있으므로, 보안에 대한 고려 없는 스마트그리드 기술의 적용은 국가 전체의 사이버 안전에 큰 위협이 된다. 따라서 안전한 스마트그리드 구축을 위해서는 AMI전체에 대한 보안을 고려하여야 하고, 특히 AMI에서 가장 중요한 부분인 스마트미터와의 네트워킹 부분에 대한 보안이 가장 중요하다. 본고에서는 AMI에 대해 알아보고, 이에 대한 보안위협 사례를 분석하여 스마트미터에 발생 가능한 보안 위협 및 대응방안을 기술하였다. 또한 앞서 언급한 스마트미터들을 연결하는 네트워크의 보안을 위하여 PANA 프로토콜이 필요함을 보이고, PANA 프로토콜의 특징을 기술하였다.
Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) is characterized by thunderclap headache with reversible vasoconstriction of the cerebral arteries. RCVS has been reported to occur in various clinical settings. However, RCVS triggered by blood transfusion is rare. A 50-year-old woman had severe anemia and received multiple blood transfusions. She developed thunderclap headache after transfusion. Cerebral artery vasoconstrictions were demonstrated by magnetic resonance angiography and transfemoral cerebral angiography. RCVS might be triggered by red blood cell transfusion in patients with severe anemia.
According to the taxonomy of English modals by Hofmann (1966) and Palmer (1990), the present study aimed at examining Korean EFL teachers’understanding and teaching experience of semantic concepts of epistemic modals. For the data, a total of 42 teachers enrolled in the English education program at 2 graduate schools in South Korea participated in an online survey. Of the participants, 18 participated in a face-to-face interview. The findings revealed that the teachers’ understanding of English epistemic modals was very low, indicating 11.92% of accuracy rate on average. In particular, their understanding of expressing speakers’ positive inference showed the lowest accuracy rate (0%). Regarding the teachers’ experience of teaching epistemic modals, the survey indicated that more than 60% of the teachers had teaching experiences. However, the teachers merely focused on forms and meanings, not functions. Importance of being aware of the semantic systems of epistemic modals, which were to express a hierarchy for logical meanings, was discussed.
Zebrafish can regenerate fins following injury through an epimorphic process that includes the formation of new tissues and reconstruction of the original morphology. In this study, the effects of valproic acid (VPA), a widely used anti-epileptic drug, on fin regeneration were studied after the caudal fin amputation of adult zebrafish. In the control group, zebrafish formed new tissues and reconstructed the original rays 14 days after amputation (dpa). Meanwhile, VPA treatments between 20 and 200 μM following amputation suppressed fin regeneration in a dose-dependent manner and altered morphological characteristics, such as bifurcation and segmentation, in the rays. Compared to the control, VPA also delayed blastema formation and decreased cell proliferation in the mesenchymal area of the regenerated fin. The mRNA expression of lef1, a downstream signaling gene in the Wnt pathway, was transiently increased in the regenerated fin of the control at 2 dpa; the same increase was not observed in the VPA-treated zebrafish. Sodium butyrate (SB), an histone deacetylase activity (HDAC) inhibitor, suppressed the fin regeneration without affecting the morphological characteristics of the regenerated ray. Furthermore, the transient increase of lef1 mRNA was not suppressed in the SB-treated zebrafish. These results suggested that VPA’s suppressive effects on fin regeneration are partly mediated through decreased cell proliferation and lef1 mRNA expression.
