        Visual Anthropological Approaches to Animation Contents

        As the virtual image, animation also has attributes of reflecting and recording the reality. The animated humanities documentary created on the basis of anthropology field investigation has the realistic basis. Therefore, ‘the virtual’ of it has become a recording ‘tool’ as the text. ‘The virtual’is merely the language of visual expression, but the narrative content hidden in the ‘virtual’ visual expression is the real ‘incarnation’. If the content of animations is culture, image recording of ethnography and ‘reproduction’ of human culture, then the value of anthropological images is reflected. A number of animated anthropological films and animated films by means of anthropological methods have been made in some countries. This sort of films has internal advantages and enormous potentials. Animation as an expression of visual images will certainly be a new field of visual anthropology.

      • THE INFLUENCE OF CG TECHNOLOGY ON THE DOCUMENTARY

        Films and video are the world’s most important means of communication. Meanwhile, CG image is an important part of it due to its enormous advantages of audio-visual integration, space-time integration, as well as art-technology integration. More importantly, it also enables the development of the documentary present more vitality. Does the integration of CG virtual image subvert the essential attribute of documentary – authenticity? Or is it a new direction of documentary in digital era? This article discusses the influence of CG on the documentary.

      • Aphid response to future elevated CO2 environment

        The performance of herbivores is directly determined by the quality of host plants which changed rapidly with abiotic environment. Elevated CO2-induced nitrogen decreases in plant foliage reduces the growth of chewing herbivorous insects. In contract, although aphids had species-specific response to elevated CO2, it was still considered that aphids’ population have been found to be the only feeding guild to respond positively to elevated CO2. Few studies of elevated CO2 effects on sap-feeding aphids can explain why aphids would make its success under elevated CO2 environment. Plant re-allocates the carbon and nitrogen in tissue under elevated CO2, and in turn alters structure of plant leaves, reduces the amino acid content of phloem sap and increased secondary metabolites of plant. However, it is difficult and unreasonable to predict the general response of aphids to elevated CO2 by using a single plant component. Instead, it is more likely that, in terms of interacting with host plant, aphids are trying to overcome the disadvantages of elevated CO2 and maximum their fitness under elevated CO2 environment. It may provide several cues to explain why individual species will achieve success under future elevated CO2. The present paper reviews recent studies of elevated CO2 effects on aphids and discusses the effects of elevated CO2 on aphid performance on crops using cotton and cereal aphids as examples. Further work examining induced defense of plant against aphids under elevated CO2 will contribute largely to current knowledge.

        How do aphids respond to elevated CO_2?

        The performance of herbivore insects is determined directly by the quality of host plants. Elevated CO_2induced a decline in foliar nitrogen, which reduced the growth of chewing insects. Phloem-sucking insects (i.e. aphid), however, had species-specific responses to elevated CO_2 and were the only feeding guild to respond positively to elevated CO_2. Although many studies attempt to illuminate the interaction between aphids and plants under elevated CO_2, few studies can explain why some aphids are more successful than other chewing insects in elevated CO_2. Elevated CO_2 leads to a re-allocation of the carbon and nitrogen resources in plant tissue, which increases the thickness of the microscopic structures of leaves, reduces amino acids content of leaf phloem sap and increases the secondary metabolites. Considering the complexity of aphid–plant interactions, it is difficult and unreasonable to predict the general response of aphids to elevated CO_2 using a single plant component. Instead, it is more likely that aphids are able to overcome the disadvantages of the indirect effects of elevated CO_2 by reducing developmental times and increasing fecundity under elevated CO_2 conditions. Our results provide several clues to why some aphids are successful in elevated CO_2 conditions. We review recent studies of the effects of elevated CO_2 on aphids and discuss the effects of elevated CO_2 on aphid performance on crops using cotton and cereal aphids as examples.

        애니메이션 콘텐츠에 대한 시각인류학적 접근

        본 논문은 애니메이션이 허구적 영상으로서 간주되지만 또한 현실의 기록과 현실의 역사적 특성을 가지고 있음을 서술하고자 한다. 인류학 분야에 대한 고찰의 토대위에서, 애니메이션이 인문기록영상의 창작 공간으로서, 현실에 의거한, 현실표상의 토대를 가지고있음을 보여준다. 이때 그 허구성은 이미 텍스트와 동일한 기록수단이 된다. 소위 허구라는 것은 단지 시각적 표현 언어이지만 허구적 시각언어 아래 숨어있는 서술내용은 실제 즉 진실의 화신이 되어진다. 만약 애니메이션의 내용이 문화, 민족지영상기록, 인류문화의 복원과 재현의 수단이 된다면, 이는 애니메이션이 인류 학영화와 동일한 가치가 반영된다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문은 세계 여러 국가들에서 제작된 영화들의 실증적 분석과, 애니메이션에서 나타난 인류학 민족지 영상기록과 서술의 예를 분석하였다. 또한 애니메이션이 가진내재적 장점과 함께 큰 잠재력이 있음을 제시한다. 이와 같이 애니메이션이 가진 장점은 점진적으로 영화의 독립적인 한 영역으로서의 성장과, 애니메이션이 시각 인류학의 표상수단으로서, 시각인류학의 새로운 한 영역이 될 것임을 보여준다.         Novel Strategy for Reducing Residual Stress in Titanium Alloy Parts Obtained via Additive Manufacturing

        The additive manufacturing of titanium alloy parts has important scientific significance and practical value. Controllingthe distribution of residual stress caused by the high cooling rate and temperature gradient is the key to regulating the performanceof devices obtained from additive manufacturing. In this work, the effects of the interlayer scanning angle on theresidual stress in Ti–6Al–4V parts manufactured by selective laser melting were investigated by finite element simulations. We studied how changing the interlayer deflection angle alleviated residual stress under different energy inputs. The resultsshowed that the residual stress in the z-direction was reduced by the deflection angle of 67° and 90°, and the non-uniformdistribution of residual stress was reduced by a deflection angle of 67°. The combination of a chessboard pattern and interlayerdeflection angle greatly alleviated the generation of residual stress. This work has important guiding significance forthe additive manufacturing design of high-quality and high-performance titanium alloy devices.

        Developmental endothelial locus-1 prevents development of peritoneal adhesions in mice

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Postoperative peritoneal adhesions, fibrous bands formed in the peritoneal cavity following surgery, represent a common, challenging and costly problem faced by surgeons and patients, for which effective therapeutic options are lacking. Since aberrant inflammation is one of the key mechanisms underlying peritoneal adhesion formation, here we set out to study the role of developmental endothelial locus-1 (Del-1), which has been recently identified as an endogenous inhibitor of inflammation, in the formation of postoperative peritoneal adhesions using a mouse model of peritoneal adhesions induced by ischemic buttons. Del-1-deficient mice had a higher incidence of adhesions, and their adhesions had higher quality and tenacity scores. Del-1 deficiency also led to enhanced inflammation mediators and collagen production. Finally, Del-1 supplementation decreased the incidence and severity of postoperative peritoneal adhesions. Taken together, these results indicate a protective role for Del-1 in postoperative peritoneal adhesion formation.</P>
