The objective of this study was to determine the effective concentration of carboxymethyl chitoaan(CMC) solution on preventing intraperitoneal adhesions. In this study, 60 rats were divided into four groups : an untreated control group and three experimental groups that were treated with 3 ml of 3, 5, and 7% CMC solution. Adhesions were induced by suturing both the ileal serosa and peritoneum scraped until petechial bleeding occurred. CMC solutions were instilled intraperitoneally immediately before closure of the peritoneomuscular layer. The tensile strength of formed adhesions was measured by using a computerized tensiometer. Histopathological changes of adhesions were evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin for light microscopic examination and Massons's trichrom staining for collagen fibers. All of CMC solutions reduced significantly the tensile strength of the adhesions. CMC inhibited the increase of inflammatory cell infiltration and damage of adhesion spot, and accelerated the collagen synthesis and neovascuiarization. No significant differences were observed among all of CMC concentration at inhibiting adhesion formation. Therefore, we could conclude that 3% CMC, the lowest concentration adopted in this study, was appropriate to prevent the formation of peritoneal adhesion.
Rat에서 carboxymethyl chitosan fabric과 low molecular weight heparin의 유착방지 효과

This study was carried out to compare the efficacy of carboxymethyl chitosan fabric (CMCF) with that of the combination of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) and CMCF for the prevention of postoperative adhesions in the rat. Adhesions were induced by suturing both the ileal serosa and peritoneum scraped until petechial bleeding occurred. CMCF were sutured between two surfaces, and LMWH were instilled intraperitoneally immediately before closure of the peritoneomuscular layer. The adhesions were blindly assessed 2 weeks later by using a tensiometer. The mean tensile strength(Newton) of formed adhesions was $2.59{\pm}0.85$ in control group, $2.10{\pm}0.75$ in the CMCF group and $1.53{\pm}0.44$ in the CMCF+LMWH group. The most favorable prevention against adhesion was achieved in the CMCF+LMWH group. Therefore, we could conclude that CMCF+LMWH were effective in prevention against postoperative adhesion in the rat.

Hermaphroditism was discovered in four dogs at surgery. For the classification of the type of hermaphroditism in each case, gross morphological and histopathological studies were performed. Based on the histopathological studies, two dogs were diagnosed as unilateral true hermaphroditism because they had mixed gonad containing testis and ovary in unilateral gonad. Whereas two dogs were diagnosed as male pseudohermaphroditism because they had only testis and uterus that had endometrial atrophy. After resection, further follow-up of several months revealed no evidence of clinical abnormalities.
엔지오제닌에 의한 가토 각막 혈관신생에 대한 라파마이신의 억제 효과

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether immunosuppressant, rapamycin could inhibit corneal angiogenesis induced by angiogenin and to evalutate its role by micropocket assay. Methods: The rabbit`s eye was implanted intrastromally into the superior cornea with pellet for the control group, pellet containing of angiogenin for the angiogenin group, and pellet containing of angiogenin and rapamycin for the angiogenin+rapamycin group. Biomicrographically, corneal angiogenesis was evaluated for 14 days after pellet implantation, based on the number and the length of new vessels. The neovascularized cornea also was examined histologically. Results: We could observe that the angiogenin inducing corneal angiogenesis was inhibited by rapamycin. The score of neovascularization was significantly decreased in the angiogenin+rapamycin group than in the angiogenin group at 3, 7 and 10 days after pellet implantation (p<0.05). Histologically, the cornea of angiogenin+rapamycin group also showed much less new vessels than that of angiogenin group, in which inflammatory cells and edema was observed. Conclusions: Rapamycin appears to inhibit angiogenin induced angiogenesis in a rabbit corneal micropocket assay and may have therapeutic potential as an antiangiogenic agent.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a protein-free, standardized dialysate/ultrafiltrate (HD) derivatives from calf blood (Solcoseryl$^{(R)}$) for second-intention full-thickness skin wound healing in dogs. Three $2{\times}2cm$ area-matched full-thickness skin wounds were created bilaterally on the dorsolateral aspect of the trunk of nine dogs. In each dog, two wounds were treated with HD, cemella asiatica extract (Centrasol$^{(R)}$) and normal saline, respectively. For six weeks, the wounds were evaluated grossly for contraction, epithelialization and healing and were examined histopathologically. In the first week of the wound healing period, HD stimulated wound contraction and healing more significantly than centasol and normal saline (p<0.05). Neutrophils were more increased in the HD-treated wounds than those in centasol or normal saline treated wounds. In the second week, HD stimulated epithelialization more significantly than centasol or normal saline (p<0.05), and neovascularization and granulation more increased in the HD-treated wounds than those in centasol and normal saline treated wounds. In conclusion, HD was the most effective on early wound contraction, epithelialization and healings among three experimental drugs in full-thickness skin wound.
