대한인쇄문화협회와 한국이앤엑스는 지난 8월 18일 코엑스 330호 세미나실에서 2009프린코 기념 세미나를 개최했다. '디지털인쇄기를 활용한 부가가치 창출전략'이라는 주제아래 이문학 인천전문대 화상정보과교수<사진 왼폭>가 '주문형출판(POD)의 현황과 전망'에 대해, 김민수 성도지엘 상무이사<사진 오른쪽>가 '디지털인쇄기의 상업인쇄물 확보전략'에 대해 발제했다. 본고에서는 이문학 교수가 발표한 '주문형출판의 현황과 전망' 중 일부를 요약 게재한다.

한 나라의 출판은 그 나라 문화의 척도이다. 출판은 여전히 뉴미디어들과의 패권경쟁을 이겨내며 인류역사와 문화발전을 이끌고 있다. 선진국들이 21세기에도 국가적 핵심전략산업으로 출판산업을 더욱 집중 육성하는 이유는 정보사회의 원동력으로서 출판산업의 중요성을 충분히 인식하고 있기 때문이다. 그러나 최근 출판시장은 매체환경의 변화로 위기를 맞고 있다. 그나마 대형출판사와 인터넷서점은 규모의 경제를 실현하며 활로를 모색하고 있지만, 중소형 출판사와 서점들은 하나 둘 문을 닫고 있는 실정이다. 정책 당국과 범출판계가 이러한 환경 변화에 현명하게 대처해야 할 시점인 것이다. 출판계가 급변하는 매체환경에 능동적으로 대처하고, 당장 해결해야 할 과제가 적지 않지만 무엇보다도 중요한 것은 출판통계 시스템의 확립이다. 본 연구는 우리나라 출판통계 시스템의 발전적 방향을 제시하기 위한 것으로, 우리나라 출판통계의 실태를 살펴보고, 외국의 선진 통계시스템의 동향 등을 분석하였다. The publications of a country are a barometer of its culture. Publication still determines the direction of human history and cultural development by competing for new media. Developed countries are intensively growing their publication industries as an industry of national strategic importance even in the 21st century because publishing is an important force that is moving the information society forwards. However, the publication market is in serious crisis because of changes in the multimedia environment. Although major publishers and some internet bookstores are trying to find a means of escape by resorting to economy of scale, more small and medium-sized publishers are shutting down. It is time for the judicious action of the government and the publication industry. There are many immediate problems to address in light of the rapidly changing multimedia environment, but the first task that should be done is establishing a publication statistics system. This study proposes a developmental direction for such a domestic publication statistics system, and also examines the actual status of domestic publication statistics and analyzes trends in the advanced statistics systems of developed countries.

북한 출판물의 형태서지학적 특성에 대한 연구

The objective of this study is to seek ways to exchange publications and to co-operate between South & North Korea through physical bibliographical analysis of the North Korea’s publications. The morphological analysis factors of the publications interlock with the external system elements of the publication. If the physical bibliographical factor of a book determines the value of the book, then the external elements of publication system are also important factors determining the quality of the publications. According to the result of the study, the quality of North Korea's publications has declined since the division. Although supply of qualified textbooks to increase the effectiveness of education through the usage of various plate types, advanced printing materials, and advanced editing and production techniques is needed, the quality of North Korea's publications is very poor, especially the North Korean textbooks. It is essential to promote exchanges between both South and North Koreas in preparation for the unification based on the importance of publishing media. Mutual understanding is needed first to promote exchanges between both South and North Koreas. In that sense, the meaning of this study can be found.

This study aims to seek measures to promote exchanges and cooperation in educational publishing between Korea and China, particularly ethnic Koreans living in China. To do so, it examines the industry characteristics in both countries and the bilateral exchanges that have been going on in the past, particularly focusing on Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. Both Koreans and ethnic Koreans living in China have seen decreasing demand for education due to a sharp drop in the population resulting from low birth rates and their entry into a super-aged society. Accordingly, this study suggests the following measures for exchanges and cooperation in the field of educational publishing as a way to resolve the problems that have arisen therefrom. First, the exchanges should be made on a regular basis with a long-term perspective. Second, they should be set up in a way that can develop the educational culture, rather than merely highlighting the educational aspect. Third, they should focus on building a win-win partnership instead of providing one-sided support. Lastly, it is necessary to promote Korea’s advanced education system to ethnic Koreans living in China in order to nurture talents who reflect the values in today’s society, such as creativity and expertise.

출판과 도서관의 관계를 살펴 볼 때, 출판은 지식·정보·창작의 다양한 결정체들을 책이라는 형식으로 수렴하여 그것을 널리 보급하여 왔고, 도서관은 출판물의 수집·보존·열람을 통해 이용자의 보편적 접근성을 보장하며 인류의 문화와 문명을 일궈온 바탕이 되어왔다. 이러한 상호 밀접한 관계는 유비쿼터스 환경이 구현된 오늘날과 미래에 있어서도 큰 변화가 없을 것이다. 왜냐하면 지식을 기반으로 하는 정보사회에서 지식·정보의 생산과 공공적 유통 기능은 더욱 확대될 것이기 때문이다. 출판과 도서관은 지식과 정보의 보고인 책의 생태계에서 불가분의 의존관계 속에서 공동의 지평을 확장하고 비전을 창출해야 할 하나의 운명이지만, 현재까지의 국내 상황에서는 공동 운명체라는 인식이나 진취적 협력관계가 그렇게 활발하다고는 할 수 없는 것 같다. 본고에서는 출판계와 도서관계의 상생(相生)을 위한 협력방안에 대해 고찰하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 출판유통시장에 있어서 도서관이 제도시장으로서의 역할을 다하여 그 위상을 높이는 방법을 강구해야 하며, 둘째, 각 계의 대표기관이라 할 수 있는 대한출판문화협회와 한국도서관협회간의 소통 관계를 증진시키는 방법을 강구하는 일이다. 또한 관련 교육기관의 교육과정 개선을 통하여 상생방안의 문제를 풀어야 할 것이라고 주장하는 바이다. Looking at relations between publishing and library, publishing has gathered various fruits of knowledge, information, creation in a form of book to distribute it widely, while library has been a foundation on which culture and civilization of human being were cultivated guaranteeing users' universal accessibility through collection, preservation, reading of publications. This mutual close relation would not be changed so much even in these or future days when ubiquitous environment could realized. It should be so because production of knowledge, information and function of public distribution would be expanded much more in the information society standing on the basis of knowledge. Even though publishing and library share the same destiny which must extend the common prospect and create a vision in the inseparable reliance in the ecosystem of book where is the repository of knowledge and information, we can rather say that it should be not so active to recognize as a group bound together by a common destiny or to have enterprising cooperative relation in the local situations so far. In this paper, we consider schemes of cooperation for coexistence of the relation between the publishing trade and library trade. Summing up the results, first, library must perform its role as an institutional market in the market of publishing distribution so to enhance its position, and second, it must study how to improve communicating relation between the Korean Publishers Association and the Korean Library Association as the representative organization of each trade. Also it is strongly suggested that the issue of coexistent measure should be settled through curriculum improvement to be done by those related educational institutions.
