        Crystal properties of atomic-layer deposited beryllium oxide on crystal and amorphous substrates

        <P>We present the crystal properties of beryllium oxide (BeO) films on Si (100), GaN (001), and amorphous SiO<SUB>2</SUB> substrates grown by atomic-layer deposition (ALD). Because of the strong bonding interactions intrinsic to beryllium, BeO thin films have been grown in crystalline phases regardless of the substrate type. Transmission electron microscopy revealed crystallized BeO films with small interfacial layers. The epitaxial relationships and domain-matching configurations were confirmed by crystal simulation. Using x-ray diffraction analyses, ALD BeO films with thicknesses of 50 nm showed wurtzite (002) crystal phases for all substrates studied. Raman spectroscopy confirmed that the crystallinity of the BeO film grown on GaN was superior to that on Si and SiO<SUB>2</SUB> substrates. Atomic force microscopy and water contact angle goniometry measurements indicated that the BeO film grown on GaN in a planar mode was due to its low film energy.</P>

        Surgical Outcomes of Cervical Esophageal Cancer: A Single-Center Experience

        Background: Cervical esophageal cancer is a rare malignancy that requires specialized care. While definitive chemoradiation is the standard treatment approach, surgery remains a valuable option for certain patients. This study examined the surgical outcomes of patients with cervical esophageal cancer. Methods: The study involved a retrospective review and analysis of 24 patients with cervical esophageal cancer. These patients underwent surgical resection between September 1994 and December 2018. Results: The mean age of the patients was 61.0±10.2 years, and 22 (91.7%) of them were male. Furthermore, 21 patients (87.5%) had T3 or T4 tumors, and 11 (45.8%) exhibited lymph node metastasis. Gastric pull-up with esophagectomy was performed for 19 patients (79.2%), while 5 (20.8%) underwent free jejunal graft with cervical esophagectomy. The 30-day operative mortality rate was 8.3%. During the follow-up period, complications included leakage at the anastomotic site in 9 cases (37.5%) and graft necrosis of the gastric conduit in 1 case. Progression to oral feeding was achieved in 20 patients (83.3%). Fifteen patients (62.5%) displayed tumor recurrence. The median time from surgery to recurrence was 10.5 months, and the 1-year recurrence rate was 73.3%. The 1-year and 3-year survival rates were 75% and 33.3%, respectively, with a median survival period of 17 months. Conclusion: Patients with cervical esophageal cancer who underwent surgical resection faced unfavorable outcomes and relatively poor survival. The selection of cases and decision to proceed with surgery should be made cautiously, considering the risk of severe complications.

      • 교육시설 내 거주 개념 도입을 위한 기초 연구

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the situation of domestic case in educational space and to derive the improvement plan with elucidating the definition of dwelling and the applicable scope in educational facilities. In order to introduce the concept of dwelling in domestic educational facilities, first, space should be planned to support continuity of students" behavior in classroom and connecting space which are main learning activity space. Second, the library should be designed as an open library so that students can autonomously find their knowledge and contribute to the reproduction activities during the class or non-class times, by manually setting the function of book borrowing and returning for a fixed period of time as the minimum function of the library itself. Third, it should be planned that the space where the main users of the school together with the students and the teachers support the activity for themselves - directed purpose as a learning community can serve as the base of the group of the classrooms. Fourth, with space closed by walls, it should be planned to enable interaction through visual participation. School facilities should provide a rich learning experience from road entry to classroom, and should be designed so that learning takes place everywhere. Eventually, the entire site should serve as an educational tool. As a result, we propose that rather than realizing the concept of dwelling only for a single space or an affiliated facility, the entire school should be created as an integrated one for dwelling.

        플로우 경험이 휴대폰 서비스 이용에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to segment the mobile phone users based on the flow types and to understand the differences in mobile phone usage behavior between the segmented groups. The 'flow' construct, which was introduced first in marketing by Hoffman and Novak[44], has been used as an important keyword for understanding consumer behavior on the World Wide Web. In this paper, we will try to use the flow aspect for the mobile market segmentation, which is one of the most fundamental tools for developing a successful marketing strategy on the mobile phone service market. We collected survey data from consumers and analyzed the data with the SPSS 12.0 package where we did x²-test, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA and cluster analysis. Main results of this study are as follow. First, the flow types of the mobile phone users were classified into five types, which are named as the 'Flow' type, 'Apathy' type, 'Anxiety' type, 'Boredom' type, 'Control' type. Second, most of the results related to the usage of mobile phone service showed statistically significant differences between flow types. These findings suggest that the mobile phone service marketers should consider the various flow types of users and work out effective market segmentation strategies based on these consumer flow types.

        매슬로의 인간 동기론을 통한 주거공간 변화 연구

        The purpose of this study is to draw residential space elements based on hierarchy of needs from Maslow"s motivation theory, and to analyze residential space changes of Korean public apartment. This research selected 25 public apartment housings by data(Plan, Area and Price) availability and PIR value(3~6). PIR value is used to select similar level of housings. This research used literature review to draw residential space elements and used descriptive analysis to analyze residential space changes. Residential space elements based on hierarchy of needs are as follows. At least 1 room, form of kitchen and relationship between kitchen & bath room are related with physiological needs. Second, structural safety, heating system, material and fire extinguishing facilities are related with needs of safety. Third, proportion & independency of living room, relationship between kitchen & living room and total area of house are related with needs of belongings. Fourth, number of rooms & bays, hierarchy of main room and openness of rooms are related with needs of self-esteem. Fifth, connectivity of private space with other spaces is related with needs of self-actualization. The results of analysis of residential space changes can be summarized as follows. First, Until "60s, needs of safety came before physiological needs in residential space. Second, rain-proof roof for needs of safety was introduced in 1955. Third, role of living room was uncertain in the early stage of introducing apartment in Korea. After then, proportion of living room increased till "90s, and decreased after "90s. Fourth, room to living room ratio steadily increased till "90s. Fifth, individual storage and balcony for self-actualization were planned only "50s.

      • S-601 Erdheim-Chester disease involving lymph nodes and liver, clinically mimicking lymphoma

        Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare non-Langerhans histiocytosis of unknown etiology. Since its first description in 1930, more than 500 cases of ECD have been reported in published literature. ECD is diagnosed between 40 to 70 years of age, with slight male predominance. In Korea, the first ECD case was reported in 1999, with less than 20 cases reported until present. ECD is a multi-systemic disease involving long bones, cardiovascular organs, lungs, central nervous system, retroperitoneum, and skin. Presentation may vary from asymptomatic bone involvement to life-threatening symptoms with multi-organ involvement. Involvement of lymph nodes or liver is rarely reported. Recently, authors have experienced a case of ECD extensively involving systemic lymph nodes, pleura, liver, and long bones mimicking malignant lymphoma in 53-year-old male patient. Multiple biopsy was performed, including pleural mass, external iliac lymph hode, bone marrow and liver. With histopathologic and immunohistochemical findings the patient was diagnosed as ECD, positive for CD68, negative for CD1a and S-100. Interferon-α was administered as first line treatment, but patient showed rapid progression with hepatic failure after 2 months of treatment. Authors report a rare case of ECD, clinically mimicking malignant lymphoma, diagnosed by early clinical recognition with careful pathological review.

        실내 내비게이션 기술은 시설물 구조에 익숙하지 않은 방문자의 길 안내뿐만 아니라 무인 이동체들의 위치를 파악하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 UWB 기술을 활용하여 타깃 영역 안에서의 좌표를 추출하고 이를 활용하여 길 안내를 해주는 앱을 개발하였다. 개발된 앱은 보정 기법을 통해 사용자의 실제 위치와 지도 위에 표시되는 위치 사이의 오차를 최소화하였다.

      • MicroRNA Detection Using Nuclease Protection Assay and Transcription-assisted Light-up Aptamer Amplification

        MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs (about 18-24 bases) that play important roles of cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. The miRNA expression level is closely associated with the occurrence and development of disease, especially cancer. Therefore, it is important biomarkers for quantifying trace miRNA in the disease diagnosis and prognosis. Here, we introduce nuclease protection transcription assay, which can perform simple and sensitivie miRNA detection by combining techniques of nuclease protection assay and transcription-assisted light up aptamer amplification. In the presence of target miRNA, the capture sequence of detection probe hybridizes with target miRNA to protect it from nuclease protection, and the protected detection probes could be easily separated by magnetic beads. Then the separated detection probes used as template for light-up aptamer amplification through in vitro transcription method. A large number of light-up aptamer transcripts can be produced to achieve significant fluorescence enhancement for miRNA quantitative analysis. The fluorescence intensity had a linear correlation with logarithm of miRNA concentration in the range of 0 - 5 nM, the detection limit was 7pM ( 280 a㏖). Furthermore, we have demonstrated that the proposed assay is practical and reliable for quantitative detection of target miRNA in complex biological samples. Thus, we anticipate that this method has potential to become a promising miRNA quantification method in biomedical research and clinical diagnosis.
