THE RELATION BETWEEN SANDSTORMS AND STRONG WINDS IN XINJIANG, CHINA

With observational data spanning 1961-1999 from 90 meteorological stations in Xinjiang, China, the spatial and temporal characteristics of sandstorms and strong winds, and the contribution of strong winds to the occurrence of sandstorms are analyzed. Moreover, the dominant wind direction and minimum wind speeds during sandstorm periods are discussed. The research shows chat although possessing similar climatic trends, sandstorms and strong winds in Xinjiang have opposite geographical distributions, i.e. places with more sandstorms show fewer strong winds. The contribution of strong winds to sandstorms in northern Xinjiang is larger than that in southern Xinjiang. The dominant wind directions clerarly indicate the paths of the weather systems that introduced the sandstorms. The minimum wind speeds in the sandstoims were ova 10 ms^(-1) in northern and eastern Xinjiang and in the Turpan and Yanqi Basins of southern Xinjiang. In Tarim Basin of southern Xinjiang, however, the minimum wind speed was about 6-8 ms^(-1), and even 6 ms^(-1) at its southero edge.
Study on the Real-Time Precise Orbit Biases Correction Technique for the GPS/VRS Network

A precise real-time method of using the IGS ultra rapid products (IGU) and the GPS broadcast ephemeris to calculate the VRS orbit corrections was presented here which was suited for GPS/VRS reference station network based positioning. Test data acquired from both the SGRSN (Sichuan GPS Reference Station Network) and SCIGN (Southern California integrated GPS network) were used to evaluate the performance of the modeling techniques. The new method was proven to be more precise and reliable compared with the existing conventional network-based orbit error interpolation method. It was shown that 0.004ppm relative accuracy was reached, namely the influence from the orbit bias for the RTK positioning within 100km area can be of sub-millimeter level.

Beauvericin (BEA) is a proven and potent antibiotic compound useful for bio-control and a potential antifungal and anticancer agent for human. This study was to evaluate and optimize the nutrient medium for BEA production in mycelial liquid culture of a high BEAproducing fungus Fusarium redolens Dzf2 isolated from a medicinal plant. Among various organic and inorganic carbon and nitrogen sources, glucose and peptone were found the most favorable for the F. redolens Dzf2 mycelial growth and BEA production. Through a Plackett-Burman screening test on a basal medium, glucose, peptone, and medium pH were identified as the significant factors for mycelial growth and BEA production. These factors were optimized through central composite design of experiments and response surface methodology, as 49.0 g/L glucose,13.0 g/L peptone and pH 6.6, yielding 198 mg/L BEA (versus 156 mg/L in the basal medium). The BEA yield was further increased to 234 mg/L by feeding 10 g/L glucose to the culture during exponential phase. The results show that F. redolens Dzf2 mycelial fermentation is a feasible and promising process for production of BEA.

Oxide dispersion-strengthened materials W-1wt%Pr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> and W-1wt%La<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> were synthesized by wet chemical method and spark plasma sintering. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis, XRD and Vickers microhardness measurements were conducted to characterize the samples. The irradiations were carried out with a 5 keV helium ion beam to fluences up to 5.0 × 10<sup>21</sup> ions/m<sup>2</sup> under 600 ℃ using the low-energy ion irradiation system. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study was performed to investigate the microstructural evolution in W-1wt%Pr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> and W-1wt%La<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>. At 1.0 × 10<sup>20</sup> He<sup>+</sup>/m<sup>2</sup>, the average loops size of the W-1wt%Pr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> was 4.3 nm, much lower than W-1wt% La<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> of 8.5 nm. However, helium bubbles were not observed throughout in both doped W materials. The effects of pre-irradiation with 1.0 × 10<sup>21</sup> He<sup>+</sup>/m<sup>2</sup> on trapping of injected deuterium in doped W was studied by thermal desorption spectrometry (TDS) technique using quadrupole mass spectrometer. Compared with the samples without He<sup>+</sup> pre-irradiation, deuterium (D) retention of doped W materials increased after He<sup>+</sup> irradiation, whose retention was unsaturated at the damage level of 1.0 × 10<sup>22</sup>D<sub>2</sub><sup>+</sup>/m<sup>2</sup>. The present results implied that irradiation effect of He<sup>+</sup> ions must be taken into account to evaluate the deuterium retention in fusion material applications.

Background/Aims: To investigate the beneficial effect of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) on pancreatic microvascular perfusion in acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP). Methods: Fifty-four rats were divided into a control group, an ANP group and an NAC-treated group. The ANP model was established by a retrograde injection of 3% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatic duct. The NAC-treated group received an intravenous infusion of NAC just 2 hours before and 30 minutes after the induction of ANP. The pancreatic microvascular perfusion was measured with laser Doppler flowmetry and pancreatic samples were collected for histological examination. Results: The microvascular perfusion in the NAC-treated group decreased slightly and exhibited a significant increase compared to the ANP group (p<0.01). A pathological examination revealed that edema and inflammatory infiltration decreased, and the hemorrhaging and necrosis of the pancreas were significantly reduced. Conclusions: NAC could improve pancreatic microvascular perfusion and alleviate the severity of sodium taurocholate-induced ANP, possibly representing a new therapeutic approach to prevent the progression of ANP.
