        Association between PM2.5 exposure and risk of Parkinson’s disease in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Taiwan: a nested case-control study

        OBJECTIVES: This cohort study investigated the correlation between Parkinson’s disease (PD) risk and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) risk under particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5) exposure. METHODS: Data from the National Health Research Institutes of Taiwan were used in this study. The Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan established an air quality monitoring network for monitoring Taiwan’s general air quality. COPD was indicated by at least 3 outpatient records and 1 hospitalization for COPD. After the implementation of age, sex, and endpoint matching at a 1:4 ratio, 137 patients and 548 patients were included in the case group and control group, respectively. Based on the 2005 World Health Organization (WHO) standards, monthly air particle concentration data were classified into the following 4 groups in analyses of exposure–response relationships: normal level, and 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 times the WHO level ([concentration ≥2]×25 μg/m3×number of exposure months). RESULTS: A multivariate logistic regression revealed that the 1.0 and 1.5 WHO level groups did not significantly differ from the normal level group, but the 2.0 WHO level did (odds ratio, 4.091; 95% confidence interval, 1.180 to 14.188; p=0.038). CONCLUSIONS: Elevated PM2.5 concentrations were significantly correlated with an increased risk of PD among patients with COPD. Furthermore, exposure to high PM2.5 levels can further increase the risk of PD.

        IL-33 promotes IL-10 production in macrophages: a role for IL-33 in macrophage foam cell formation

        We evaluated the role of IL-10- in IL-33-mediated cholesterol reduction in macrophage-derived foam cells (MFCs) and the mechanism by which IL-33 upregulates IL-10. Serum IL-33 and IL-10 levels in coronary artery disease patients were measured. The effects of IL-33 on intra-MFC cholesterol level, IL-10, ABCA1 and CD36 expression, ERK 1/2, Sp1, STAT3 and STAT4 activation, and IL-10 promoter activity were determined. Core sequences were identified using bioinformatic analysis and sitespecific mutagenesis. The serum IL-33 levels positively correlated with those of IL-10. IL-33 decreased cellular cholesterol level and upregulated IL-10 and ABCA1 but had no effect on CD36 expression. siRNA-IL-10 partially abolished cellular cholesterol reduction and ABCA1 elevation by IL-33 but did not reverse the decreased CD36 levels. IL-33 increased IL-10 mRNA production but had little effect on its stability. IL-33 induced ERK 1/2 phosphorylation and increased the luciferase expression driven by the IL-10 promoter, with the highest extent within the − 2000 to − 1752 bp segment of the 5′-flank of the transcription start site; these effects were counteracted by U0126. IL-33 activated Sp1, STAT3 and STAT4, but only the STAT3 binding site was predicted in the above segment. Site-directed mutagenesis of the predicted STAT3-binding sites (CTGCTTCCTGGCAGCAGAA→CTGCCTGGCAGCAGAA) reduced luciferase activity, and a STAT3 inhibitor blocked the regulatory effects of IL-33 on IL-10 expression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) confirmed the STAT3-binding sequences within the − 1997 to − 1700 and − 1091 to − 811 bp locus regions. IL-33 increased IL-10 expression in MFCs via activating ERK 1/2 and STAT3, which subsequently promoted IL-10 transcription and thus contributed to the beneficial effects of IL-33 on MFCs.

        The combined application of bleomycin with triamcinolone acetonide in port wine stains: inhibiting proliferation and recurrence of port wine stains

        Background Port wine stains slowly grow thicker over time, nodules appear on the surface, and the color slowly deepens from pink to purple. Even after laser treatment, some port wine stains will recur and slowly grow, and the erythema appears again. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of bleomycin in combination with triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of inhibiting the proliferation and recurrence of port wine stains. Results Histopathological change: Before treatment, dense capillaries were distributed within the lesion, and blood fills the lumen. Lack of normal skin structure: After bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide injection, the number of capillaries was significantly reduced, and fibrosis occurred in tissues. Changes in facial morphology: After treatment, the port wine stains became thinner, the asymmetry of the face was effectively improved, and the appearance have been significantly improved. After 5 years of follow-up, there were no recurrent cases. Conclusion Bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide injection can effectively inhibit the proliferation of port wine stains and prevent port wine stains from recurring after treatment.

        論新形勢下漢語國際傳播的곤境與對

        The current international situation is complex and changeable. In the new situation, Chinese Language Globalization has developed rapidly, but it is still facing difficulties: Firstly, the international environment of Chinese Language Globalization needs to be improved. Secondly, the system of Chinese Language Globalization is not perfect yet. Thirdly, it is lack of experience and human resources. Fourthly, the research had not sufficient. For this reason, this paper suggests that, in order to promote the sustainable development of the cause of Chinese Language Globalization, the Chinese government and departments should accelerate the pace of economic and political reforms, improve the social environment, strengthen communication and cooperation with related government departments and enterprises, establish a efficient system of Chinese Language Globalization; improve education levels, perfect training organization, study the regular of Chinese teaching as a foreign language and cultural communication. Let the world know more about China, and let China get a social environment of the peaceful development.

        Human Intersectin 2 (ITSN2) binds to Eps8 protein and enhances its degradation

        Participates in actin remodeling through Rac and receptor endocytosis via Rab5. Here, we used yeast two-hybrid system with Eps8 as bait to screen a human brain cDNA library. ITSN2 was identified as the novel binding factor of Eps8. The interaction between ITSN2 and Eps8 was demonstrated by the in vivo co-immunoprecipitation and colocalization assays and the in vitro GST pull-down assays. Furthermore, we mapped the interaction domains to the region between amino acids 260-306 of Eps8 and the coiled-coil domain of ITSN2. In addition, protein stability assays and immunofluorescence analysis showed ITSN2 overexpression induced the degradation of Eps8 proteins, which was markedly alleviated with the lysosome inhibitor NH4Cl treatment. Taken together, our results suggested ITSN2 interacts with Eps8 and stimulates the degradation of Eps8 proteins. [BMB reports 2012; 45(3): 183-188]

      • A Framework for NFC-based Context-aware Applications

        Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging technology that facilitates data exchange between two devices wirelessly within close proximity. As integrated into more and more mobile phones, the NFC technology enables the users to interact with the intelligent environments in a natural and intuitive manner and thus changes the way people perform many routine daily activities like mobile payment, business card exchange, etc. Although NFC has bridged the physical and virtual worlds, context-aware technology is needed to sense and use NFC context actively in order to provide users with more intelligent and personalized services. In this paper, we propose an ontology-based framework for developing NFC-based context-aware applications, which can perceive user context and offer appropriate context-aware services to the user by combining the NFC technology with context-aware technology. With the proposed framework, application providers are enabled to develop NFC-based context-aware applications in a simple way. Meanwhile, the framework provides security service for protecting data integrity of the NFC context. This paper presents the framework's design, implementation and a real use case scenario that shows the validation of the approach.

        Deqing county, the northern part of Zhejiang province. The rural tourism attract nature respecting foreigners and white-collars. Based on questionnaires and research, this paper studied the influence of destination with cross-cultural contact. Results show there are aggressive influences on the following aspects, such as tourism mode, environmental awareness, cultural integration and etc. Finally, some useful proposals are put forward for local tourism development. In order to promote sustainable development of destination, the government has to respect and protect local villagers and culture, and at the same time select and adopt the essence of foreign culture.

        Fabrication and Characterization of Copper Nanoparticles in PVA/PAAm IPNs and Swelling of the Resulting Nanocomposites

        Well-dispersed copper nanoparticles were fabricated using poly(vinyl alcohol)/polyacrylamide interpenetrating polymer networks (PVA/PAAm IPNs) as a nanoreactor template. The synthesis of the IPNs hydrogels was achieved in the presence of glutaraldehyde and N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide. The resulting PVA/PAAm/Cu nanocomposite hydrogels were characterized, and the swelling and mechanical properties were investigated. The results indicated that the copper nanoparticles had a spherical shape with a size range from 10 to 20 nm. The complexation of PVA in PVA/PAAm IPNs with Cu 2+played an important role in avoiding the aggregation of copper nanoparticles and providing particle size and size distribution controllability and stability. Although the swelling capacity of the nanocomposite hydrogels was slightly lower than that of the control, they had better compression mechanical properties. The water uptake and mechanical properties can be easily tuned by changing the component ratios to meet the requirements of specific applications, such as drug controlled release or tissue engineering.

        2008年起, 有来自南非、法国、韩国等十来个国家的人士在浙北德清395村经营农家乐, 受到崇尚自然的国内外旅游者的欢迎。本文在调查的基础上, 研究以乡村旅游为载体的跨文化交流给旅游目的地带来的影响。结果显示, 跨文化交流主要对当地旅游模式、环境意识、文化融合等方面产生a积极的影响。建议该地旅游规划与开发要尊重目的地居民意愿、保护目的地居民的本土文化、选择吸收外来文化精华等, 以促进旅游目的地的可持续发展。 Since 2008, foreign businessmen from South Africa, France, South Korean and other countries have started rural tourism in Sanjiuwu Village of Deqing county, the northern part of Zhejiang province.         INDEFINITE STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL LQR CONTROL WITH CROSS TERM UNDER IQ CONSTRAINTS

        A stochastic optimal LQR control problem under some integral quadratic (IQ) constraints is studied, with cross terms in both the cost and the constraint functionals, allowing all the control weighting matrices being indefinite. Sufficient conditions for the well-posedness of this problem are given. When these conditions are satisfied, the optimal control is explicitly derived via dual theory.
