Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains difficult to treat and urgently needs new therapeutic options. Nintedanib, a multikinase inhibitor, has exhibited efficacy in early clinical trials for HER2-negative breast cancer. In this study, we examined a new molecular mechanism of nintedanib in TNBC. The results demonstrated that nintedanib enhanced TNBC cell apoptosis, which was accompanied by a reduction of p-STAT3 and its downstream proteins. STAT3 overexpression suppressed nintedanib-mediated apoptosis and further increased the activity of purified SHP-1 protein. Moreover, treatment with either a specific inhibitor of SHP-1 or SHP-1-targeted siRNA reduced the apoptotic effects of nintedanib, which validates the role of SHP-1 in nintedanib-mediated apoptosis. Furthermore, nintedanib-induced apoptosis was attenuated in TNBC cells expressing SHP-1 mutants with constantly open conformations, suggesting that the autoinhibitory mechanism of SHP-1 attenuated the effects of nintedanib. Importantly, nintedanib significantly inhibited tumor growth via the SHP-1/p-STAT3 pathway. Clinically, SHP-1 levels were downregulated, whereas p-STAT3 was upregulated in tumor tissues, and SHP-1 transcripts were associated with improved disease-free survival in TNBC patients. Our findings revealed that nintedanib induces TNBC apoptosis by acting as a SHP-1 agonist, suggesting that targeting STAT3 by enhancing SHP-1 expression could be a viable therapeutic strategy against TNBC.

The goals of this study were to investigate the role of the Notch1/PDGFRβ/ROCK1 signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and to explore the possibility of treating fibrosis by targeting Notch1. Lung tissues from patients with pulmonary fibrosis were examined for the expression of Notch1/PDGFRβ/ROCK1 using RT-qPCR, western blotting, and immunostaining. Cultured mouse lung pericytes were transfected with Notch1-overexpressed vectors or shRNA targeting PDGFRβ/ROCK1 to examine cell behaviors, including proliferation, cell cycle arrest, and differentiation toward myofibroblasts. Finally, a mouse pulmonary fibrosis model was prepared, and a Notch1 inhibitor was administered to observe tissue morphology and pericyte cell behaviors. Human pulmonary fibrotic tissues presented with overexpression of Notch1, PDGFRβ, and ROCK1, in addition to a prominent transition of pericytes into myofibroblasts. In cultured mouse lung pericytes, overexpression of Notch1 led to the accelerated proliferation and differentiation of cells, and it also increased the expression of the PDGFRβ and ROCK1 proteins. The knockdown of PDGFRβ/ROCK1 in pericytes remarkably suppressed pericyte proliferation and differentiation. As further substantiation, the administration of a Notch1 inhibitor in a mouse model of lung fibrosis inhibited the PDGFRβ/ROCK1 pathway, suppressed pericyte proliferation and differentiation, and alleviated the severity of fibrosis. Our results showed that the Notch1 signaling pathway was aberrantly activated in pulmonary fibrosis, and this pathway may facilitate disease progression via mediating pericyte proliferation and differentiation. The inhibition of the Notch1 pathway may provide one promising treatment strategy for pulmonary fibrosis.

Hanok(Korean traditional house) village of Jeonju city became one of the most attractive tourist sites during less than 15 years. The number of visitors to the Hanok village was less than 100,000 in 1999, but the number reached over 6,000,000 in 2014. Jeonju Hanok village has become the hottest tour attraction not only for traditional Korean culture and life but also for food eating. To attract more tourists, Jeonju city has done various marketing for Hanok village. This paper focuses on how Jeonju city government has done its cultural marketing to propagate the good images and news of Hanok village to all over Korea. One is to organized festivals and events. The city government also invited news reporters, teachers, scholars and public figures to the site. The government excavated stories of the area and spreaded them to the press. The government also induced drama and film shooting in the site. The image of Jeonju Hanok village has spreaded Korea successfully during the last 15 years. The government also has organized international cultural marketing. Non-traditional images of tourists in Hanok village go viral online and many specialists worry that these online photos with street food may erode the authenticity of Hanok village. The image war is going on between the city government, its photos, informations, and published materials on the one side, and the young generation who consume Hanok village with street foods and new plays, their photos of street foods, and other photos of various new plays such as with costume characters on the wins this war or how new style can emerge

The construction of a public cemetery in Kangnung city includes terraced graveyard with cutting or banking in mountain which has severe altitude differences with a slope of 30˚. Therefore, there are scattered cutting and banking sections with vertical height more than 15m. Especially, if the slope failure or the loss of a graveyard happens after graveyard establishment due to surface flow and inflow around, it is difficult to repair, causing serious public censure. Accordingly. revegetation works were examined that need protection of slope. The specific content of the study was the selection of slopes requiring special care through blueprint and field investigation the measurement of the physical property of slope and the situation of vegetative growth, the investigation of vegetation in slopes and the selection of vegetation, and the analysis of soil condition of slopes and the physical condition of slope sediment. On the basis of investigations some alternatives were proposed.Key words: public cemetery, slope protection works, revegetation works

Yi, Hak-Kyu,Chun, Young-Jin,Kim, Han-Bok The Microbiological Society of Korea 1999 The journal of microbiology Vol.37 No.4
An extracellular endopeptidase from Bacillus cereus SH-7 was purified to homogeneity. The protease was most active at pH 8 and $40{\circ}C$, respectively. The molecular mass of the protease was 40 kDa on SDS-PAGE, and 120 kDa by gel filtration, suggesting that the native enzyme is composed of three homogeneous subunits. The $K_m\;and\;V_{max}$ values of the protease for N-succinyl-$(Ala)_2$-Pro-Phe-p-nitroanilide were 11.11 mM and 170 nmol/mg of protein/min, respectively. The protease was also identified as a metalloprotease. The bioactivity of the SH-7 protease will need further study in the future.

We investigated the impact of watermelon grafted onto Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV)-resistant transgenic watermelon rootstock on insects as non-target organisms in a greenhouse in 2005. We quantitatively collected insect assemblages living on leaves and flowers, and we used sticky traps to collect alate insects. We compared the patterns of insect assemblages and community composition, cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii Glover) on watermelon leaves and western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis Trybom) on watermelon male flowers, between CGMMV-resistant transgenic watermelon (TR) and non-transgenic watermelon (nTR). Non-parametric multidimensional scaling (NMS) ordination verified that insect assemblages on leaves and sticky traps were different between TR and nTR (P<0.05). The insect assemblages on male flowers were not statistically significant. Multi-response permutation procedures proofed our results from NMS results (P>0.05). Conclusively, TR watermelons appear to have some adverse effects on the population of cotton aphids on leaves and sticky traps, but watermelon male flowers do not show an adverse effect. Further research is required to assess the effect of TR on the aphid and western flower thrip. Life table experiments might support the specific reason for the adverse effects from leaf assemblages. Assessment of non-target impacts is an essential part of the risk assessment of non-target insects for the impact of transgenic organisms.

A case of massive intestinal bleeding from jejunal diverticulum is describe. A 62-year-old man was refered to our hospital because of melena and anemia. After admission, he showed massive hematochezia with unstable vital sign. Esophagogastroduodenocopy and colonoscopy, selective abdominal angiography, and RBC bleeding scanning were performed to seek the cause of the intestinal bleeding, but none of these studies revealed the source of bleeding. The examination of small bowel with methylcellulose showed multiple small jejunal diverticuli and a large diverticulum. Resection of the involved portion of jejunum was performed. On pathological examination, two mucosal loss lesions were detected, but ulcer or arteriovenous malformation were not seen in the resected jejunal diverticulum. The patient showed no more intestinal bleeding after operation. Although jejunal diverticuli are rare, the careful search for this complication in a patient with intestinal bleding is important.
