Trichostatin A (TSA) is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. We here investigated its effects on proliferation and apoptosis of the CNE2 carcinoma cell line, and attempted to establish genome-wide DNA methylation alteration due to differentially histone acetylation status. After cells were treated by TSA, the inhibitory rate of cell proliferation was examined with a CCK8 kit, and cell apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. Compared to control, TSA inhibited CNE2 cell growth and induced apoptosis. Furthermore, TSA was found to induce genome-wide methylation alteration as assessed by genome-wide methylation array. Overall DNA methylation level of cells treated with TSA was higher than in controls. Function and pathway analysis revealed that many genes with methylation alteration were involved in key biological roles, such as apoptosis and cell proliferation. Three genes (DAP3, HSPB1 and CLDN) were independently confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR. Finally, we conclude that TSA inhibits CNE2 cell growth and induces apoptosis in vitro involving genome-wide DNA methylation alteration, so that it has promising application prospects in treatment of NPC in vivo. Although many unreported hypermethylated/hypomethylated genes should be further analyzed and validated, the pointers to new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies in the treatment of NPC should be stressed.
The Early Maritime Chinese Diaspora in Southeast Asia
Wu Xiao An 전남대학교 글로벌디아스포라연구소 2012 전남대학교 세계한상문화연구단 국제학술회의 Vol.2012 No.11
My understanding is that the early maritime Chinese diaspora should coincide with “the early modern” period in human history, roughly correspondent to the early colonial period prior to the rise of the Western imperialism and the massive Chinese migration subsequently. I choose the beginning of the fifteenth century as the starting point and the mid-1850s as the ending line to define “the early” maritime Chinese diaspora. The early maritime Chinese migration should predominantly refer to Nanyang, literally the Southern Ocean. Nanyang is now called Southeast Asia, had over centuries constituted the most important network for the “Water Frontier”, “Asian Mediterranean”, or “the Maritime Silk Road”. For the global commercial interactions, Nanyang’saignificance lay in its extraordinary unifying linkage to connect the various areas and isolated societies, whose unifying fields consisted of the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, the Java Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the South China Sea. In the historical process of the globalization, the oceans and seas had been crucial terrains for the transnational interactions. The oceans, seas, and ports function as clusters of linkages to connect the continents, regions, and states and they themselves form the key “in-between” frontiers. In the making of Chinese diaspora, ports, routes, and communities were interconnected structural components that were framed in and integrated into the maritime Asia or monsoon Asia. The ports are located on the two-sides of water frontiers across China and Nanyang, which are connected by the routes of migration and trade. The Chinese communities usually emerged around the trading ports, whose formation was almost coincident. The Chinese merchants played the crucial roles and were responsible for all affairs concerning Chinese communities and beyond. The article is outlined into four parts as follows: 1) characteristics, 2) ports, 3) routes, and 4) communities.
Stereo-digital image correlation in the behavior investigation of CFRP-steel composite members
Xiao-Yuan He,Yun-Tong Dai,Hai-Tao Wang,Tian-Yuan Ge,Gang Wu,Jian-Xiao Wan,Shuang-Yin Cao,Fu-Jun Yang 국제구조공학회 2017 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.23 No.6
The application of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in steel structures primarily includes two categories, i.e., the bond-critical application and the contact-critical application. Debonding failure and buckling failure are the main failure modes for these two applications. Conventional electrometric techniques may not provide precise results because of the limitations associated with single-point contact measurements. A nondestructive full-field measurement technique is a valuable alternative to conventional methods. In this study, the digital image correlation (DIC) technique was adopted to investigate the bond behavior and buckling behavior of CFRP-steel composite members. The CFRP-to-steel bonded joint and the CFRPstrengthened square hollow section (SHS) steel column were tested to verify the suitability of the DIC technique. The stereo- DIC technique was utilized to measure continuous deformation. The bond-slip relationship of the CFRP-to-steel interface was derived using the DIC data. Additionally, a multi-camera DIC system consisting of four stereo-DIC subsystems was proposed and applied to the compressive test of CFRP-strengthened SHS steel column. The precise buckling location and CFRP delamination of the CFRP-strengthened SHS steel column were identified. The experimental results confirm that the stereo-DIC technique can provide effective measurements for investigating the behaviors of CFRP-steel composite members.

Refusal is one of typical speech acts in daily communication. As a face-threatening act, refusal might bring burdens to both parties of dialogue. To reduce potential conflicts, various refusal strategies (e.g., giving a reason, evasive expression, proposition, etc) were studied. Despite extensive cultural contents shared by China and South Korea, there are significant differences in social ideologies and ways of thinking, which result in variations in pragmatic strategies for refusal speech acts. However, few studies have focused on differences in speech acts between non-native Chinese students learning Korean and native Koreans. This study investigates differences in refusal speech acts between native Korean exchange students and Chinese learners of the Korean language at different proficiency levels from universities in Qingdao. The study employs methods of DCT and role-playing conversations with 24 refusal scenes as well as self-defined classification of refusal strategies. Results showed significant differences between them in terms of quantity and frequency of refusal strategies. This study could help to prepare lesson plans for Chinese Korean language learners and guide them to learn the Korean language more effectively.

Four isostructural amino-acid-based polyoxomolybdates, {$M(H_2O)_3(pro)Mo_4O_{13}$}$_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ (pro = proline, M = Co (1), Ni (2), Cu (3), Zn (4)), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectrum, TG analysis. The structures of 1-4 are layered networks built up from {$Mo_8O_{26}(pro)_2$}$^{4-}$ units and {$M(H_2O)_3O_3$} octahedra, the uncoordinated water molecules occupying the interlayer regions.

The insect midgut epithelium is generally lined with a unique chitin and protein structure, the peritrophic membrane (PM), which facilitates food digestion and protects the gut epithelium. We used gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to identify the extracted proteins from the silkworm PM to obtain an in-depth understanding of the biological function of the silkworm PM components. A total of 305 proteins, with molecular weights ranging from 8.02 kDa to 788.52 kDa and the isoelectric points ranging from 3.39 to 12.91, were successfully identified. We also found several major classes of PM proteins, i.e. PM chitin-binding protein, invertebrate intestinal mucin, and chitin deacetylase. The protein profile provides a basis for further study of the physiological events in the PM of Bombyx mori.

High speed trains receive traction electrical energy from a high-voltage catenary via a pantograph catenary system (PCS). As the velocity of trains increases, the traditional PCSs face signifi cant challenges, such as strong aero resistance under highspeed conditions, severe electrochemical corrosion caused by poor contact between the pantograph strip and the catenary, harmful wear both on the pantograph strip and the contact wire produced by high-speed sliding friction between them, etc. The eff ectiveness and reliability of the PCS has a direct impact on the performance and safety of the HTS power supply. In order to alleviate some of these bottleneck eff ects related to the operation of the currently used PCSs, especially under high-speed conditions, this paper proposes a novel confi guration where rotatable pantograph rollers replace the currently used pantograph strips. As the sliding friction is now replaced by rotating friction, this has numerous benefi ts, such as less friction heat, better heat dispersion and improved catenary-tracking performance. Moreover, should the whole system be modularized, it could adapt to diff erent levels of traction power through adjusting the number of rollers.
