This study is the architectural planning of 5 distribution supporting facilities for traditional herbal medicine cultivated in the rural areas. The main function of the facility consists of storage, pre-treatment/processing, loading/unloading and the assistant function consists of inspection, office, exhibition/sale, technical equipment etc. The planning shows the modular plan and the section plan of the storage space reflecting the shape and size of storage container, the action radius of carrier and the possibilities of space lease. The total floor area of the storage is 3,192m²consisting of 27 space. The total floor area of the pre-treatment/processing is 1,488m²consisting of 7 space. The total floor area of the loading/unloading is 329m²consisting of 4 space. The total floor area of each facility storage is 8,284m²including of public space 2,170m². Also this planning shows the preliminary design, "fundamental model design" for 5 rural government BTL project. Therefore, this result of planning will be the guidelines of the RFP(Request For Proposal) for the private sector company interested in this BTL project.

The authors investigated thoroughly the flotation characteristics of stibnite. The flotation behavior of this mineral was carried out by using modified hallimond tube with various xanthates as a collector and modifying agents such as copper sulphate, lead acetate, sodium sulfide, zinc sulphate, sodium cyanide, sodium sulfite and potassium dichromate. The main results obtained in this experiments are summarized as follows; (1) Stibnite shows that it has maximum floatability in pH range 4.0 to 8.0. (2) Stibnite is activated by copper sulphate and lead acetate. (3) Potassium dichromate is an effective depressing agents in stibnite-xanthate system in pH range 4.0 to 6.0. (4) In the pH range in which the zinc sulphate is preciptated by hydroxide, stibnite is depressed effectively (5) Stibnite is depressed by sodium sulfide in alkaline solution.
영아기 거대세포 바이러스(CMV) 간염 : 혈청내 CMV 특이 IgM 항체와 소변내 바이러스 조기항원 검출에 대한 연구

Four hundred and three infants with hepatosplenomegaly or abnormal liver function were studied for antibodies of Hepatitis A and B, Rubella, Herpes simplex virus, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Toxoplasma and Syphilis. Among them, 22 infants were also studied for viruses in urine. Monoclonal antibodies especially, for that of CMV, were used to detect virus encoded early antigen with in the urine and the following results were obtained. Among the 403 infants tested, 37 cases (9.2%) were confirmed CMV infection by detection of CMV specific IgM or viral antigen detection in urine. Among the 22 cases in which virus culture was done in urine, 8 cases (36.4%) were confirmed CMV infection and CMV was isolated in 6 cases (27.3%). Virus isolation rate of confirmed CMV infected cases was 75% (6/8). It can be concluded that hepatitis due to CMV plays a significant role in neonatal hepatitis in Korea.

<P>The emissions of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO<SUB>2</SUB>) are believed make a significant impact on global climate change. Hence, amine chemical absorption technology has been suggested to separate and recover CO<SUB>2</SUB>. In this study, reaction rate constants between CO<SUB>2</SUB> and blended amines were determined by measuring their absorption rate for CO<SUB>2</SUB>. The experiments were carried out to investigate the characteristics of CO<SUB>2</SUB> absorption by using additional absorbents such as hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), <I>N</I>-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) or piperazine blended into 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) in an agitated vessel. The absorption rates of CO<SUB>2</SUB> into aqueous blended amine solutions were measured. Additive concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 wt% were added for each 30 wt% AMP solution. The results showed that the addition of HMDA, MDEA or piperazine into AMP increased the absorption rate as compared to AMP alone. Of these additives, HMDA showed the most enhancement in the reaction rate of AMP. Purpose: Neck ultrasonography (NUS) is one of the most commonly used methods for evaluating thyroid nodules and preoperative higher TSH levels are known to be associated with differentiated thyroid cancers. This study was conducted to assess whether serum TSH levels and neck ultrasonography are of value in predicting malignancy in patients with atypia of undetermined significance/follicular lesions of undetermined significance (AUS). Methods: A total of 62 patients (7 men, 55 women; mean age 48.4±11.9 years) who had indeterminate cytologic results indicating AUS underwent thyroidectomy. Preoperative clinical data including serum TSH and the findings of NUS were analyzed retrospectively between malignant and non-malignant groups. Results: The final pathologic results of malignancy were reported in 53 of 62 (85.5%) patients with AUS. There was no significant difference in the mean value of preoperative serum TSH between malignant and non-malignant groups (1.5±1.3 vs. 1.9±1.2, P=NS). In NUS, the patients diagnosed with malignancy in histology showed a higher proportion of calcification, taller-than-wide shape, hypoechoic texture and irregular margin (58.5% vs. 22.2%, P=0.044; 34% vs. 0%, P=0.038; 98.1% vs. 44.4%, P<0.01; 47.2% vs. 0%, P= 0.008). Conclusion: Serum TSH was not related to malignancy in thyroid nodules showing AUS. However, ultrasonographic features including calcifications, taller-than-wide shape, hypoechoic pattern and irregular margin could be used to predict malignancy. Ultra-sonography should be the first useful methods when making decisions regarding mana-gement of thyroid nodules showing indeterminate cytologic results as AUS.

Purpose: Heat shock proteins (hsps) are synthesized by cells in response to various stress conditions, including carcinogenesis. The expression of hsps in neoplasia has been implicated in the regulation of cell signaling pathway such as cell survival and apoptosis. This study aimed to determine whether hsps expression in various thyroid neoplasia are significant and to identify the possibility as a therapeutic molecular target. Methods: We examined the expression of the hsp70 and hsp90 on tissue section from 53 thyroid tissues (16 normal tissues; 11 nodular hyperplasia; 12 follicular adenomas; 14 papillary carcinomas) using immunohistochemistry. Hsps expression was scored according to the percentage of positively stained cells (grade 0 to grade III). Results: For hsp70, all of the 53 tissues showed over- expression. 100% (16/16) of normal thyroid tissue and 87.0% (20/23) of benign tissue were categorized as grade I or II. In comparison, the carcinoma tissues showed expression in 64.3% with grade III. For hsp90, almost of normal thyroid tissue and benign tumors showed no expression (87.5% in normal tissues, 91.3% in benign tumors). However, all of carcinoma tissues showed expression and 78.6% (11/14) of carcinoma were in grade II or III. Conclusion: In current study, the pattern of expression for hsp70 and hsp90 in normal, benign, malignant thyroid tissues suggests that heat shock proteins might have some role in tumorigenesis in thyroid. Since there have been no reports on heat shock proteins and thyroid, further study is necessary and could give us clinically significant clue for diagnosis and treatment. <P>The direct differentiation of hepatocytes from bone marrow cells remains controversial. Several mechanisms, including transdifferentiation and cell fusion, have been proposed for this phenomenon, although direct visualization of the process and the underlying mechanisms have not been reported. In this study, we established an efficient <I>in vitro</I> culture method for differentiation of functioning hepatocytes from murine lineage-negative bone marrow cells. These cells reduced liver damage and incorporated into hepatic parenchyma in two independent hepatic injury models. Our simple and efficient <I>in vitro</I> protocol for endodermal precursor cell survival and expansion enabled us to identify these cells as existing in Sca1<SUP>+</SUP> subpopulations of lineage-negative bone marrow cells. The endodermal precursor cells followed a sequential developmental pathway that included endodermal cells and hepatocyte precursor cells, which indicates that lineage-negative bone marrow cells contain more diverse multipotent stem cells than considered previously. The presence of equivalent endodermal precursor populations in human bone marrow would facilitate the development of these cells into an effective treatment modality for chronic liver diseases.</P>

<P><B>Introduction</B></P><P>Tumor cell interactions with the microenvironment, especially those of bone-marrow-derived myeloid cells, are important in various aspects of tumor metastasis. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have been suggested to constitute tumor-favoring microenvironments. In this study, we elucidated a novel mechanism by which the MDSCs can mediate spontaneous distant metastasis of breast cancer cells.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Murine breast cancer cells, 4T1 and EMT6, were orthotopically grafted into the mammary fat pads of syngeneic BALB/c mice. CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>Gr-1<SUP>+ </SUP>MDSCs in the spleen, liver, lung and primary tumor mass were analyzed. To evaluate the role of MDSCs in the distant metastasis, MDSCs were depleted or reconstituted in tumor-bearing mice. To evaluate whether MDSCs in the metastasizing tumor microenvironment affect breast cancer cell behavior, MDSCs and cancer cells were co-cultivated. To investigate the role of MDSCs in <I>in vivo </I>metastasis, we blocked the interactions between MDSCs and cancer cells.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Using a murine breast cancer cell model, we showed that murine breast cancer cells with high IL-6 expression recruited more MDSCs and that the metastasizing capacity of cancer cells paralleled MDSC recruitment in tumor-bearing mice. Metastasizing, but not non-metastasizing, tumor-derived factors induced MDSCs to increase IL-6 production and full activation of recruited MDSCs occurred in the primary tumor site and metastatic organ in the vicinity of metastasizing cancer cells, but not in lymphoid organs. In addition, tumor-expanded MDSCs expressed Adam-family proteases, which facilitated shedding of IL-6 receptor, thereby contributing to breast cancer cell invasiveness and distant metastasis through IL-6 trans-signaling. The critical role of IL-6 trans-signaling was confirmed in both the afferent and efferent pathways of metastasis.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>In this study, we showed that metastasizing cancer cells induced higher MDSCs infiltration and prompted them to secret exaggerated IL-6 as well as soluble IL-6Rα, which, in turn, triggered a persistent increase of pSTAT3 in tumor cells. This potential tumor-MDSC axis involving IL-6 trans-signaling directly affected breast cancer cell aggressiveness, leading to spontaneous metastasis.</P>
