Correlations Between Fasciology and Yin Yang Doctrine

        Hui Tao,Mei-chun Yu,Hui-ying Yang,Rong-mei Qu,Chun Yang,Xin Zhou,Yu Bai,Jing-peng Wu,Jun Wang,Ou Sha,Lin Yuan 사단법인약침학회 2011 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.4 No.2

The aim of this study is to explore the correlations between fasciology and yin yang doctrine. Professor Yuan developed fasciology by three-dimensional reconstruction of connective tissue (fascia) in the trunk and limbs of the human body and tracing back to tissue origins in light of biological evolution and developmental biology. Fasciology states that the human body can be divided into two systems: the supporting-storing system and the functional system. This article elaborates on the roles of the two systems and their mutual relationship. The two systems are used to analyze the yin,the yang, and their relationship. The two systems are promoted but also restricted in different contexts. The supporting-storing system is formed by undifferentiated connective tissue and provides undifferentiated cells and nutrients for differentiated cells of the functional system. Thus, the supporting-storing system could be classified as quiet, similar to yin. The functional system continuously maintains the various functional activities of the human body. Thus, the functional system could be classified as active, similar to yang. In interpreting the yin yang doctrine from the point of view of fasciology, yin can be compared with the supporting-storing system and yang can be compared with the functional system.

SOME RESULTS ON CONDITIONALLY UNIFORMLY STRONG MIXING SEQUENCES OF RANDOM VARIABLES

        De-Mei Yuan,Xue-Mei Hu,Bao Tao 대한수학회 2014 대한수학회지 Vol.51 No.3

From the ordinary notion of uniformly strong mixing for a se- quence of random variables, a new concept called conditionally uniformly strong mixing is proposed and the relation between uniformly strong mix- ing and conditionally uniformly strong mixing is answered by examples, that is, uniformly strong mixing neither implies nor is implied by condi- tionally uniformly strong mixing. A couple of equivalent definitions and some of basic properties of conditionally uniformly strong mixing ran- dom variables are derived, and several conditional covariance inequalities are obtained. By means of these properties and conditional covariance inequalities, a conditional central limit theorem stated in terms of condi- tional characteristic functions is established, which is a conditional version of the earlier result under the non-conditional case.

Experimental and numerical investigation on the behavior of concrete-filled rectangular steel tubes under bending

        Tao Zhang,Yong-zhi Gong,Fa-xing Ding,Xue-mei Liu,Zhi-wu Yu 국제구조공학회 2021 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.78 No.3

Pure bending loading conditions are not frequently occurred in practical engineering, but the flexural researches are important since it’s the basis of mechanical property researches under complex loading. Hence, the objective of this paper is to investigate the flexural behavior of concrete-filled rectangular steel tube (CFRT) through combined experimental and numerical studies. Flexural tests were conducted to investigate the mechanical performance of CFRT under bending. The load vs. deflection curves during the loading process was analyzed in detail. All the specimens behaved in a very ductile manner. Besides, based on the experimental result, the composite action between the steel tube and core concrete was studies and examined. Furthermore, the feasibility and accuracy of the numerical method was verified by comparing the computed results with experimental observations. The full curves analysis on the moment vs. curvature curves was further conducted, where the development of the stress and strain redistribution in the steel tube and core concrete was clarified comprehensively. It should be noted that there existed bond slip between the core concrete and steel tube during the loading process. And then, an extensive parametric study, including the steel strength, concrete strength, steel ratio and aspect ratio, was performed. Finally, design formula to calculate the ultimate moment and flexural stiffness of CFRTs were presented. The predicted results showed satisfactory agreement with the experimental and FE results. Additionally, the difference between the experimental/FE and predicted results using the related design codes were illustrated.

Sex pheromone of the jumping plant bug, Halticus minutus Reuter (Hemiptera: Miridae)

        Tao Zhang,Xiaofang Zhang,Xiangdong Mei,Yaofa Li,Zhanlin Gao,Jun Ning 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.2

The jumping plant bug, Halticusminutus Reuter, is a pest of sweet potatoes, soybeans and turfgrass in China. Here we present our analysis of the female-produced sex pheromone. These plant bugs release their sex pheromone, consisting hexyl acetate (HA), hexyl butyrate (HB) and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal (4-OHE), at night. These three components, tested individually, elicited strong antennal responses. Field tests indicated that a ternary blend of HA, HB and 4-OHE, at ratios of 1:16:10, effectively attractedmale H. minutus. Our dose-response analysis showed optimal male capture at the trap dose of 13.5mg/trap. Higher trap doses did not improve capture rates. Higher ratios of HB in the pheromone mix led to substantially reduced captures, fromwhich we infer that HBmay function as an alarm pheromone or defensive secretion. Pipette tips were used as long-term lures, and whose longevities were evaluated. Results showed effective duration of pipette tip lures were N5 weeks. Thus, we suggest that the pheromone-baited traps are economically viable tools for long-term monitoring and trapping of jumping plant bugs.

Behavior of polygonal concrete-filled steel tubular stub columns under axial loading

        Tao Zhang,Fa-Xing Ding,Liping Wang,Xue-mei Liu,Guo-shuai Jiang 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.28 No.5

The objective of this paper is to investigate the mechanical performances of polygonal concrete-filled circular steel tubular (CFT) stub columns under axial loading through combined experimental and numerical study. A total of 32 specimens were designed to investigate the effect of the concrete strength and steel ratio on the compressive behavior of polygonal CFT stub columns. The ultimate bearing capacity, ductility and confinement effect were analyzed based on the experimental results and the failure modes were discussed in detail. Besides, ABAQUS was adopted to establish the three dimensional FE model. The composite action between the core concrete and steel tube was further discussed and clarified. It was found that the behavior of CFT stub column changes with the change of the cross-section, and the change is continuous. Finally, based on both experimental and numerical results, a unified formula was developed to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of polygonal CFT stub columns according to the superposition principle with rational simplification. The predicted results showed satisfactory agreement with both experimental and FE results.

The Presence of Open Dentinal Tubules Affects the Biological Properties of Dental Pulp Cells Ex Vivo

        Mei-Ying Shao,Zhong-Sen Fu,Ran Cheng,Hui Yang,Li Cheng,Feng-Ming Wang,Tao Hu 한국분자세포생물학회 2011 Molecules and cells Vol.31 No.1

To investigate the effects of open dentinal tubules on the morphological and functional characteristics of dental pulp cells. Morphological changes in human dental pulp cells that were seeded onto dentin discs with open den-tinal tubules were investigated on days 1, 2, 4, and 10 of culture using scanning electron microscopy and fluores-cence microscopy. Samples collected on days 1, 3, 6, 8, and 10 of culture were evaluated for cell proliferation rate and alkaline phosphatase activity. Cultured human dental pulp cells developed a columnar or polygonal morphology and monopolar cytoplasmic processes that extended into the dentinal tubules. The cells formed a multilayer and secreted an extracellular matrix onto the cell surface. Scanning electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy revealed polarized organization of odontoblasts. Cells seeded onto dentin discs prolifer-ated minimally but showed high levels of ALP activity. Dental pulp cells seeded onto treated dentin discs develop an odontoblast-like phenotype, which may be a potential alternative for use in experimental research on dentinogenesis.

Extractive Biodegradation of Diphenyl Ethers in a Cloud Point System: Pollutant Bioavailability Enhancement and Surfactant Recycling

        Tao Pan,Chunyan Liu,Qiao Xin,MEI-YING XU,Yangwu Deng,Wei Dong,Shuijing Yu 한국생물공학회 2017 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.22 No.5

The biodegradation of diphenyl ethers (DEs) in the environment is limited by their high hydrophobicity. The enhancement of DE bioavailability by a cloud point system (CPS) was investigated in this study. Three CPSs (i.e., Triton X-114, Triton X-114 + Triton X-45, and Brij30 + TMN-3) were tested to promote DE biodegradation. Biocompatibility tests showed that the biodegradation of DE and 4-bromodiphenyl ether (4-BDE) was inhibited by TX-114, unaffected by TX-114 + TX-45, and promoted by Brij30 + TMN-3 over 48 h of cultivation with Cupriavidus basilensis and 4% (w/v) nonionic surfactants. Further optimization with 2% (w/v) Brij30 + TMN-3 yielded residual DE and 4-BDE quantities of 143 and 154 mg/L, respectively, lower than quantities in the control. During degradation, DE content did not decrease in the dilute phase, but sharply decreased in the coacervate phase, indicating that the DEs gradually diffused and transferred from the coacervate phase to the dilute phase for degradation by microbial cells. This behavior also enhanced the bioavailability of DEs in the CPS. By removing the cellrich dilute phase and adding fresh degradation medium and DE to the coacervate phase, surfactants were successfully recovered and reused twice without affecting DE biodegradation. Results demonstrated that a CPS with 2% (w/v) Brij30 + TMN-3 not only enhanced the bioavailability of DEs, but also decreased the treatment cost through surfactant recycling, which is beneficial for large-scale applications.
