Proceedings of international Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 44-64, 1999.-Cordyceps sinensis is a major parasitic fungus on larva of Lepidoptera. It is one of the well know fungi used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment asthma, lung and kideney diseases. Many fungi belonging to the genus Cordyceps have been demonstrated to produce natural products with various biological activities. Reported biological activities of genus cordyceps include:(a)inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis;(b)enhancement of cell differentiation;(c)restruction of cytoskeleton;(d)inhibition of protein kinase activity;(e)antitumor activity on bladder, colon, lung carcinoma as well as fibroblastoma;(f)inhibition of the infection and revers transciptase activity of human immunodeficiency virus type 1; and(g) inhibition of methylation of nucleic acid. Thus, it is suggested that the extracts of Cordyceps sp. Contain antitumor, antiviral, and many other biological activities. In our previous studies, we proved that C. sinensis contains the antitumor and immunomodulatory agents. In the present studies, effects of C. sinensis on bronchoalveolar lavage fluids(BAL)cells were demonstrated. The crude methanolic extracts of C. sinensis were fractionated into 15 fractions by silica gel column chromatography. Effects of various fraction on BAL cells proliferation and lipopolysaccharide(LPS) stimulated interleukin-1β(IL-8),platelet activating factor(PAF), interleukin-6(IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),and interleukin-8(IL-8) production on BAL cells were determined. The result indicated that the CS-19-22 fraction suppressed BAL cells proliferation activated by LPS. The median inhibitory concentration(IC50) was 6㎍/ml. The CS-19-22 fraction also decreased IL-1β,PAF,IL-6, TNF-αand IL-8 production.The results of revers transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) demonstrated that the CS-19-22 fraction did not affect IL-1β,PAF,IL-6, TNF-α,and IL-8 mRNAs expression in BAL cells activated by LPS. By contrast, it inhibited the IL-10 mRNA expression but enhanced IFN-γand IL-12 mRNAs expression in activated BAL cells. Moreover, the CS-19-22 fraction blocked PAF-induced platelet aggregation. It is unlikely that cytotoxicity was involved. Because no cell deths were observable. We hypothesize that inhibitory mechanisms of CS-19-22 on BAL cells proliferation may be related to the impairments of gene expression and production of cytokines in BAL cells. The explanation of C. sinensis antiasthma function may involved the following(1)C.sinenesis contained immunomodulatory agents that stimulated IFN-γand IL-12 expression in TH1cells.(2)Enhanced secretion of IFN-γand IL-12 will inhibit the Tγcells immune responses Ex. Decreasing of IL-6 and IL-10 production.(3) The impairments of cytokines production in TH2 cells suppressed th BAL cells proliferation then more cytokines production Ex.IL-1β,PAF,IL-6,TNF-αand IL-8 in activated BAL cells were decreased. (4)The suppression of TH2cells immune responses will inhibit the growth and differentiation of B cells then IgE production will be decreased. (5)Reduced production of IgE will decreased asthma attack occurring in individuals. However, the results of the present study suggested that C. sinensis may also have acted to treat asthma in part by inhibiting BAL cells proliferation and cytokine gene expression and production. Future, experiments with treatment of animals with asthma with C. sinensis will be necessary to defined whether C. sinensis can reduce asthma injury. Plans are underway for the isolation of pure principal growth inhibitors and their mechanisms of action are subjected for further study.

        신경외과 영역에서의 접착성 지혈제가 주변뇌조직에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구

        In a series of 20 young rats, three cortical lesions were made in each hemisphere. Two of these lesions were filled with avitene and gelfoam, while the third was left empty as a control. The animals were killed successively on weeks 1, 2, 4 and 8 after the operation. The results were as follows : 1) Although there was no difference in the type of tissue reactions, avitene was more rapid and profound than gelfoam in the process and degree of inflammatory reaction at the same periods. 2) Avitene biodegradaded more rapidly than gelfoam. 3) The extent of fibrosis and adhesion to the surrounding brain tissues were not grossly different between these two agents but more profound histopathologically in avitene at the same periods. With these results, we could conclude that the avitene was superior to the gelfoam as the hemostatic agent in neurosurgical area.

      • POCS를 이용한 프레임간 압축 영상의 블록화 현상 제거 방법

        본 논문에서는 동영상에서 프레임간 예측 방식을 이용하여 압축된 영상(P-프레임)의 블록화 현상을 모델화 하고, 그에 따른 블록화 현상 제거 방법을 제안한다. 동영상의 압축 과정은 전 영상에서 움직임 보상된 영상으로부터 차분 영상을 구하고, 그 차분 영상의 DCT 계수를 양자화 함으로써 압축되게 된다. DCT계수의 블록단위의 양자화 과정과 블록화 현상을 갖는 전 영상으로부터의 움직임 보상 과정에 의하여 P-프레임에는 블록 경계뿐만 아니라, 블록 내부에서도 불연속이 나타나게 된다. P-프레임 압축 영상이 블록화 현상을 갖지 않으려면, 차분 영상은 블록의 경계와 블록 내부에서 움직임 보상된 전 영상의 불연속과 반대방향의 불연속을 가져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 특징들을 이용하여 차분 영상에서의 철면 집합을 정의하고, POCS이론을 이용한 블록화 현상 제거 방법을 제안한다. In this paper, we propose a degradation model for blocking artifacts in inter-frame coded images and corresponding image restoration algorithm based on convex projection for reducing blocking artifacts. In contrast to still images, inter-frame coded images has two different kinds of blocking artifacts. The one arises on block boundary, which is caused by quantization of block discrete cosine transform (BDCT) coefficients. The other arises on block interior, which is caused by motion compensation from the previous blocky image. These properties are used to define convex sets. Namely, on both block boundary and interior, differential images must have discontinuity in opposite direction to the previous motion compensated image.

      • 단백체를 이용한 애기장대 Cytokinin 유도 단백질의 분석

        Cytokinins are essential plant hormones that play crucial roles in various aspects of plant growth and development. To better understand the molecular mechanisms of cytokinin action, we identified cytokinin related proteins by a proteomic approach. Proteins extracted from control and trans-zeatin treated Arabidopsis seedlings were separated and analyzed by two dimensional gel analysis. Differentially expressed protein spots were identified with peptide mass fingerprinting based on matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and database searching. We obtained ten up-regulated and one down-regulated proteins upon t-zeatin treatment. The expression of the following proteins was induced; pollen allergen like protein, L-ascorbate peroxidase, tetrapyrrole methylase family protein, SGT1 protein homolog, disease resistance related protein, maternal embryogenesis control protein, paxneb related protein, gluthathione S-transferase and IAA amino acid hydrolase homolog.

      • 계태에서의 31P 자기공명분석법을 이용한 인대사변화의 추적

        Chick embryo is a convenient model for embryologic teratologic studies. We performed the present experimental study to establish the basic technology for magnetic resonance studies of chick embryos and to examine the biochemical changes occurring during the development of chick embryos. Fertilized Leghorn eggs were examined by 31-phosphours magnetic resonance spectroscopy (??P-MRS) on days 6, 9, 12, 14, 15, 17 and 20 after the start of incubation. Spectroscopic data of live embryos were acquired by using a 4.7T MR spectrometer, and signals from phosphorous metabolites were analyzed. Total phospholipid signal decreased, which resulted in the overall decrease in total phosphorous signal over time. Signals from other metabolites such as ATPs and phosphocreatine increased over time, while those from inorganic phosphate and sugar phosphates decreased. Before the incubation days 12, signals from sugar phosphates and inorganic phosphate were predominant, and other metabolites became remarkably functional between the days 12 and 14 when the decrease in the phospholipid signal was significant. MR specrtroscopy is an effective method in evaluation of the biochemical changes occurring during the developmental period of chick embryos.

        It is one of the most economical method of Soil stabilization works to compact soil, which increases soil density artificially. The result obtained in this study on the effect that optimum moisture content and plastic Linit, natural moisture content, influence upon the maximum dry density effort 36 Samples are Summarized as follows. 1. The bigger the maximum dry density is, the smaller the optimum moisture content is, on the other hand, the smaller the maximum dry density is, the bigger the optimum moisture content is, ingeneral. 2. There is a relation which is rdmax=1/[0.00895(OMC+44.73)] between the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content, namely, the maximum dry density is increased in propertion to decrease of the optimum moisture content. 3. There is a relation which is OMC=0.438+0.395 PL and OMC=42.30-1.20Wn 4. There are relation to be the straightline which the maximum dry density decrease, on the other hand, The optimum moisture content increase in accordance with enlargement of Atter berg Limit (LL.PL.PI) in compacted soils.

        The purpose of this research is to obtain the design basins for various hydrologic construction with the specific system which suits the natural environmental condition in Korea. Ⅰ) Maximum rainfall per minute is correlated in certain degree with the daily rainfall, and following formular is obtained empirically. Y=19.1 T^0.45 T≤73.5hr Y=108.5 T^0.45 T≥73.5hr Ⅱ) The influence of the missed number of observed years is such that 60 years at the Maximum are allowable with a certain risk, and one year is negligible.

      • 傾斜面의 土壤侵蝕과 Ca(OH_2)에 의한 土壤保全 效果試驗

        According to the result of soil reosion rate depends on the different slope of structure we have obtained data as follows. (Measured): July, 1968∼Augst, 1963. (Run off of water) 95cc/sec. (soil texture)Sandy loam. By the mixture 1% Ca(OH)_2, 2%Ca(OH)_2, 3%Ca(OH)_2, 5%Ca(OH)_2 to 30^015` solpe of soil to 39gr, 19gr, 13gr, 9gr was run off during the 10 minutes. According to the comparison test between the method of soil erosion control by untreated soil and of soil control by the mixture 5%Ca(OH)_2 to slope of soil which untreated, soil was washed away more 300gr than the mixture 5% Ca(OH)_2 to soil during the 10 minutes. i.e. the more higher up mixture Ca(OH)_2 to soil of slope, goes the more soil loss be-comes. The protection of soil slope that is public construction, repair work railway, construction and erosion control work and ect.

      • Soil Cement 混合物에 關한 基本的 試驗

        There are various methods to stabilize the soil as a construction material. Mixing cement to soil is one of them, the mixture being called "soil-cement". In this experiment, two kinds of soil samples were taken in the Taejun area and were used for compaction, strength and duration tests, giving different cement contents. In making soil-cement samples, such factors as soil gradation, the pulverization of soil, cement contesr, water content and compacting were considered. There variables were correlated with the measured values of strengths and durations. This experiment was carried out under the method specified in the A.S.T.M. standard and K.S.F standard. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. 1. The compacting effects if soil-cement is concident with the proctor's theory of optimum water content in general soil test. 2. As the cement content increases, the compressive strength of soil-cement increases almost proportionally 3. The compressive strength of soil-cement has the maximum value at the maximum dry density corresponding to the optimum water content. 4. The amount of the weigth loss of the sample due to the alternation of wetting and drying. 5. As the cement content increases, the amount of the weight loss of the sample due to the alternation of wetting and drying and that due to tha alternation of freezing and melting decreases respectively. 6. If the pulverizing and mixing abilities of machine used in marking soil-cement are improved, the quality of soil-cement will become much better. 7. On the other hand, in order to obtain the practically applicable soil-cement, the extensive field tests will be necessary. 8. The soil-cement could be suitable construction material in paving farm roads, building farm house and so forth.
