The hot deformation behavior of advanced reduced-activation alloy (ARAA) was investigated using hot torsion tests. Thefl ow stress decreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The fl ow behavior demonstratedthe typical dynamic recrystallization (DRX). Based on the constitutive analysis of peak stress, the activation energy for hotdeformation was found to be 330.3 kJ mol −1 . Peak stress was analyzed as a function of the Zener–Hollomon parameter, andcalculated and experimental values were in good agreement. A DRX kinetic model for ARAA was derived with deformationconditions based on the Avrami-type model. It was confi rmed that the volume fraction of dynamically recrystallized grainsincreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The necklace structure and grain boundarybulging were observed in the deformed microstructure of ARAA. The suggested DRX mechanism for ARAA during hotworking is discontinuous DRX.

Korean bullhead (Pseudobagrus fulvidraco) was collected from the Kum River areas of Kangkyung-eup,Nonsan city, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, from April to June, 2012 and was fertilized in order to observe egg development and temperature-related cleavage rates and mitotic intervals (τ0). The fertilized eggs were separative, demersal and light yellowish with 1.5±0.06 mm in diameter, and did not contain oil globules. The first cleavage stages were 90 min, 80 min,60 min and 50 min at 21℃, 24℃, 27℃ and 30℃, respectively. At higher temperatures, eggs developed faster and underwent further identical development. For Korean bullhead, τ0 were 33.4±2.08 min at 21℃, 31.5±3.06 min at 24℃, 28.1±2.11 min at 27℃ and 26.4±3.35 min at 30℃. There were strong negative correlations between the τ0 and water temperatures at all points studied (Y=-1.13X+58.15, R^2=0.98, n=30, where Y is τ0 and X is temperature). The results obtained in this work will be helpful for chromosome manipulation by use of cleavage frequency data and τ0 data in Korean bullhead.

Aims: Pediatric liver transplantation (PLT) has been the key therapy for end stage liver disease and the outcome has been excellent. However, still surgical complication associated with small recipient is the main cause of graft loss. In the present study, we assessed recent advances in outcome of PLTs through our experience. Methods: A total of 237 PLTs performed between Mar 1988 and July 2015 were analyzed. Three chronological periods were investigated: the initial period (1988-2007, n=117), the mid-term period in which our PLT management protocol was settled down (2008-2011, n=61), and the period in which surgical procedures were refined for small children (2012-2015, n=59). Results: The grafts’ (84% vs. 82% vs. 98%) and patients’ (84% vs. 87% vs. 98%) survival have been improved (p<0.05), whereas the proportion of Child class C (12% vs. 21% vs. 34%), the proportion of deceased donor (25% vs. 41% vs. 54%), and split PLT (15%vs. 20% vs. 39%) increased (p<0.05). The incidence of surgical complication has been improved, especially in hepatic artery (4% vs. 12% vs. 0%) but there was no significance. ABO incompatible PLT has introduced on the last period (9%). Conclusions: The quality of the PLT has recently been standardized through a large volume of experience, and the operation has been proven to improve the survival outcome. However, a constant evaluation of our experience is critical for further progress.
The role of the ecoecorridor for the walking beetles in Chupungryeong, Korea

Eco-corridors are essential for walking wild animals to move and connect with ecosystems betweenfragmented habitats. This study aimed to determine the role of the eco-corridor and the biodiversity ofground beetles near eco-corridors constructed between areas divided for a prolonged period. As a centerof the Chupungryeong eco-corridor, Bongsanemyeon, Gimcheonesi, Gyeongsangbukedo on theGyeongbu expressway, four sites were examined. To confirm the movement of beetles on the bridge, weused the captureerecapture method by marking specimens around 5 cm belonging to Carabus jan kowskii, Eucarabus sternbergi, and Carabus semiopacus. On the other hand, pitfall traps in each oppositearea were used to investigate the biodiversity of ground beetles. Our results indicated that groundbeetles moved between separated habitats using eco-corridors. In addition, the collections showeddifferent diversities at each site. These results confirmed the important role of the eco-corridor inwalking animals, although more detailed research is required. Additionally, these results provide baselinedata for future eco-corridor construction
Vasoconstriction Potency Induced by Aminoamide Local Anesthetics Correlates with Lipid Solubility

<P>Aminoamide local anesthetics induce vasoconstriction <I>in vivo</I> and <I>in vitro</I>. The goals of this <I>in vitro</I> study were to investigate the potency of local anesthetic-induced vasoconstriction and to identify the physicochemical property (octanol/buffer partition coefficient, pKa, molecular weight, or potency) of local anesthetics that determines their potency in inducing isolated rat aortic ring contraction. Cumulative concentration-response curves to local anesthetics (levobupivacaine, ropivacaine, lidocaine, and mepivacaine) were obtained from isolated rat aorta. Regression analyses were performed to determine the relationship between the reported physicochemical properties of local anesthetics and the local anesthetic concentration that produced 50% (ED<SUB>50</SUB>) of the local anesthetic-induced maximum vasoconstriction. We determined the order of potency (ED<SUB>50</SUB>) of vasoconstriction among local anesthetics to be levobupivacaine > ropivacaine > lidocaine > mepivacaine. The relative importance of the independent variables that affect the vasoconstriction potency is octanol/buffer partition coefficient > potency > pKa > molecular weight. The ED<SUB>50</SUB> in endothelium-denuded aorta negatively correlated with the octanol/buffer partition coefficient of local anesthetics (<I>r</I><SUP>2</SUP> = 0.9563; <I>P</I> < 0.001). The potency of the vasoconstriction in the endothelium-denuded aorta induced by local anesthetics is determined primarily by lipid solubility and, in part, by other physicochemical properties including potency and pKa.</P>
19-nor-1α-25-Dihydroxyvitamin D2 (Paricalcitol) Induces Apoptosis in Gastric Cancer Cells

The active metabolite of vitamin D3 (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, calcitriol) has shown potent antitumor activity for multiple cancers in vitro and in vivo models. Concerns about causing hypercalcemia by calcitriol and the desire for more potent agents have prompted the development of low-calcemic vitamin D analogs. The compound 19-nor-1α-25-dihydroxyvitamin D2 (paricalcitol) demonstrated anticancer effects on gastric cancer cell lines expressing vitamin D receptor (VDR). The expression of the VDR protein was increased by paricalcitol in a dose-dependent manner. Paricalcitol inhibited gastric cell growth and induced apoptosis in AGS, SNU719 and MKN45 cell lines. Paricalcitol increased the expression of the caspase-3 cleaved protein and decreased the expression of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein. Furthermore, paricalcitol promoted early and late apoptosis. This low-calcemic vitamin D analog was effective in vitro and is a promising agent for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer.
Facial Soft Tissue Augmentation Using Autologous Fat Mixed with Stromal Vascular Fraction

Background Autologous fat grafting evolved over the twentieth century to become a quick,safe, and reliable method for restoring volume. However, autologous fat grafts have some problems including uncertain viability of the grafted fat and a low rate of graft survival. To overcome the problems associated with autologous fat grafts, we used uncultured adipose tissue-derived stromal cell (stromal vascular fraction, SVF) assisted autologous fat grafting. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of SVF in a clinical trial. Methods SVF cells were freshly isolated from half of the aspirated fat and were used in combination with the other half of the aspirated fat during the procedure. Between March 2007 and February 2008, a total of 9 SVF-assisted fat grafts were performed in 9 patients. The patients were followed for 12 weeks after treatment. Data collected at each follow-up visit included clinical examination of the graft site(s), photographs for historical comparison,and information from a patient questionnaire that measured the outcomes from the patient perspective. The photographs were evaluated by medical professionals. Results Scores of the left facial area grafted with adipose tissue mixed with SVF cells were significantly higher compared with those of the right facial area grafted with adipose tissue without SVF cells. There was no significant adverse effect. Conclusions The subjective patient satisfaction survey and surgeon survey showed that SVFassisted fat grafting was a surgical procedure with superior results.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flexural behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams strengthened with prestressed Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) plates and to suggest the analytic equations of flexural capacity calculation for strengthening design. The evaluation of flexural behavior is carried out by parameter study experiments and the derived design equations are verified by the experimental results. The experimental parameters are concrete compressive strength, tensile reinforcement ratio, and prestressing level. Failure and fracture modes are observed and the efficiency of different CFRP prestressing level is studied. The results show that the non-prestressed specimens fail by spalling of the CFRP plate from the RC beam, while prestressed specimens fail due to CFRP plate failure. The presented equations of flexural capacity for RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates are shown to be sufficiently accurate in predicting flexural strengthening effectiveness of RC beams.
