A Fabrication Process of High Volume Fraction of Jute Fiber/Polylactide Composites for Truck Liner

        Rui-Hua Hu,임재규,Shuai Zheng,Ya-Nan Li,Guo-Hua Yang,김희규,Zhi-Guo Ma 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.13 No.7

Aiming at the green manufacturing technology of automotive industry, in the past, some researchers have developed green materials—fully degradable natural fiber reinforced polylactide composites. In the researches, the natural fiber volume fraction (or weight fraction) ranges from 20% to 55%. In order to lower the cost of the composites, an effective way is to increase natural fiber volume fraction and decrease polylactide fraction. In this research, a more uniform fiber blending method is employed, and the natural fiber volume fraction is increased to 70%. The fabrication process includes two steps:felt making and hot pressed molding. Short jute fiber and short PLA fiber are blended on a fiber opening machine in terms of fiber volume fractions, 60% and 70% respectively. The mixtures are carded and needle punched to make felt. Then the felt is hot pressed at 180℃, and the jute/PLA composites are fabricated. Mechanical properties of the composites with different fiber volume fractions are investigated. Real size truck liners are successfully manufactured. The composites have very good formability and processability.

Methods on improvements of the poor oral bioavailability of ginsenosides: Pre-processing, structural modifi cation, drug combination, and micro- or nano- delivery system

        Qi-rui Hu,Huan Hong,Zhi-hong Zhang,Hua Feng,Ting Luo,Jing Li,Ze-yuan Deng,Fang Chen 고려인삼학회 2023 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.47 No.6

Panax ginseng Meyer is a traditional Chinese medicine that is widely used as tonic in Asia. The mainpharmacologically active components of ginseng are the dammarane-type ginsenosides, which havebeen shown to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, neuroprotective, and metabolicregulatory activities. Moreover, some of ginsenosides (eg, Rh2 and Rg3) have been developed intonutraceuticals. However, the utilization of ginsenosides in clinic is restrictive due to poor permeability incells and low bioavailability in human body. Obviously, the dammarane skeleton and glycosyls of ginsenosidesare responsible for these limitations. Therefore, improving the oral bioavailability of ginsenosideshas become a pressing issue. Here, based on the structures of ginsenosides, we summarized theunderstanding of the factors affecting the oral bioavailability of ginsenosides, introduced the methods toenhance the oral bioavailability and proposed the future perspectives on improving the oral bioavailabilityof ginsenosides.

      • Historical Long-term Exposure to Pentachlorophenol Causing Risk of Cancer - A Community Study

        Zheng, Rui-Zhi,Zhang, Qing-He,He, Yi-Xin,Zhang, Qian,Yang, Lin-Shen,Zhang, Zhi-Hua,Zhang, Xiu-Jun,Hu, Jing-Ting,Huang, Fen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Background: Pervious studies suggested occupational workers exposure to pentachlorophenol (PCP) might contribute to increased risk of cancer. However, few studies have focused on associations between PCP and cancer risk at the community level. Objective: The present study was to explore the cancer risk for the community population living long-term in a PCP contaminated area. Methods: All the cancer cases diagnosed in 2009-2011 in Tongling City were collected. The cancer patients' residencies were geo-referenced in each district. The historical PCP usage for each district of Tongling was calculated as the PCP pollution index, which was further used to divide into PCP exposure categories. Standardized rate ratios (SRRs) of cancer incidence were applied to detect the cancer risk as exposure grade elevated. Correlation analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between PCP pollution and cancer incidence. Results: A total of 5,288 cancer cases (3,451 male and 1,837 female) were identified. PCP usage was correlated with the incidence of leukemia (r=0.88, P=0.002) for males, and with cancer of the esophagus for males (r=0.83, P=0.008) and females (r=0.71, P=0.020). Compared with the low exposure category, significant SRRs for total cancer sites was obtained for high PCP exposure category (SRR=1.61, 95%CI=1.59-1.62). Most SRR values of the cancer sites were significantly increased as exposure grade elevated and exposure time extended. Conclusion: The present study found that community residents living in the PCP contaminated area had increased risk of cancers. Leukemias, lymphomas and nasopharyngeal and esophageal cancers are most possibly associated with PCP exposure.

      • Prognostic Value of T Cell Immunoglobulin Mucin-3 in Prostate Cancer

Piao, Yong-Rui,Piao, Long-Zhen,Zhu, Lian-Hua,Jin, Zhe-Hu,Dong, Xiu-Zhe Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.6

Background: Optimal treatment for prostate cancer remains a challenge worldwide. Recently, T cell immunoglobulin mucin-3 (TIM-3) has been implicated in tumor biology but its contribution prostate cancer remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of TIM-3 as a prognostic marker in patients with prostate cancer. Methods: TIM-3 protein expression was determined by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting in 137 prostate cancer tumor samples and paired adjacent benign tissue. We also performed cell proliferation assays using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyl- 2H tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and cell invasion assays. The effects of small interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated knockdown of TIM-3 (TIM-3 siRNA) in two human prostate cancer cell lines were also evaluated. Results: TIM-3 expression was higher in prostate cancer tissue than in the adjacent benign tissue (P<0.001). High TIM-3 expression was an independent predictor of both recurrence-free survival and progression-free survival. TIM-3 protein was expressed in both prostate cancer cell lines and knockdown suppressed their proliferation and invasion capacity. Conclusions: TIM-3 expression is associated with a poor prognosis in prostate cancer. Taken together, our resutlts indicate that TIM-3 is a potential prognostic marker in prostate cancer.

SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A NEW ELECTROMECHANICAL BRAKE WITH AUTOMATIC WEAR ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION

Yun Feng Fu,Xin Hua Hu,Wei Rui Wang,Zheng Ge 한국자동차공학회 2020 International journal of automotive technology Vol.21 No.1

This paper presents a novel electromechanical brake (EMB) with automatic wear adjustment function, which has been ignored in most previous studies. With the aim of investigating the parameter characteristics of the EMB system and analyzing the proposed function, the mathematical models of the DC motor, motor friction, worm drive, ball screw and load are established in MATLAB/Simulink. The differences between the simulation and the experiment under step, triangular wave, square wave and sinusoidal input signals are discussed. The parameter characteristics of clamping force-motor current and clamping force-ball screw displacement are obtained, which also verifies that the established model is correct. The results demonstrate that the automatic wear adjustment function of the new EMB could guarantee that the brake stroke and response time remain consistent across each braking manoeuvre.

African Maternal Origin and Genetic Diversity of Chinese Domestic Donkeys

        Lei, Chu-Zhao,Ge, Qing-Lan,Zhang, Hu-Cai,Liu, Ruo-Yu,Zhang, Wei,Jiang, Yong-Qing,Dang, Rui-Hua,Zheng, Hui-Ling,Hou, Wen-Tong,Chen, Hong Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.5

The origin of domestic donkeys in China has been controversial. To clarify the origin of Chinese domestic donkeys, we investigated the partial mitochondrial D-loop sequences of 126 samples from 12 native breeds. The results revealed two mitochondrial origins, lineage Somali and lineage Nubian of African wild ass detected in Chinese domestic donkeys. Lineage Somali was predominant in Chinese domestic donkey breeds. The pattern of genetic variation in ass mtDNA D-loop sequences indicated that the two lineages Somali and Nubian from China had undergone population expansion events. In a combined analysis of lineages Somali and Nubian between previously published sequences from other countries/regions and sequences of Chinese domestic donkeys, the results indicated that the two lineages of Chinese domestic donkeys were from Africa and supported the African maternal origins of Chinese domestic donkeys. There was no obvious geographical structure in Chinese domestic donkey breeds, but the population showed abundant mtDNA diversity. The spread routes of Chinese domestic donkeys were also discussed.

The horizontal stability of an FLNG with different turret locations

Xie, Zhi-Tian,Yang, Jian-Min,Hu, Zhi-Qiang,Zhao, Wen-Hua,Zhao, Jing-Rui The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2015 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.7 No.2

The horizontal stability of a Single-Point Moored (SPM) Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility is investigated. Both numerical and experimental studies have been conducted for this SPM FLNG. The numerical simulations feature well the experimental data. The effects of the turret locations are studied based on the validated numerical model. Statistic results of the vessel's motions with different turret locations are conducted and compared. The results show that the longitudinal location of the turret has a significant influence on the horizontal stability, which has a strong relationship with the yaw and roll motions. The calculated top tensions on the hawsers also develop a regular change as changing the turret's location. The investigation will provide a brief of principles with more details for the design of the ongoing project.

Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals B cell–related molecular biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease

        Xiong Liu-Lin,Xue Lu-Lu,Du Ruo-Lan,Niu Rui-Ze,Chen Li,Chen Jie,Hu Qiao,Tan Ya-Xin,Shang Hui-Fang,Liu Jia,Yu Chang-Yin,Wang Ting-Hua 생화학분자생물학회 2021 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.53 No.-

In recent years, biomarkers have been integrated into the diagnostic process and have become increasingly indispensable for obtaining knowledge of the neurodegenerative processes in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in human blood have been reported to participate in a variety of neurodegenerative activities. Here, a single-cell RNA sequencing analysis of PBMCs from 4 AD patients (2 in the early stage, 2 in the late stage) and 2 normal controls was performed to explore the differential cell subpopulations in PBMCs of AD patients. A significant decrease in B cells was detected in the blood of AD patients. Furthermore, we further examined PBMCs from 43 AD patients and 41 normal subjects by fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), and combined with correlation analysis, we found that the reduction in B cells was closely correlated with the patients’ Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scores. To confirm the role of B cells in AD progression, functional experiments were performed in early-stage AD mice in which fibrous plaques were beginning to appear; the results demonstrated that B cell depletion in the early stage of AD markedly accelerated and aggravated cognitive dysfunction and augmented the Aβ burden in AD mice. Importantly, the experiments revealed 18 genes that were specifically upregulated and 7 genes that were specifically downregulated in B cells as the disease progressed, and several of these genes exhibited close correlation with AD. These findings identified possible B cell-based AD severity, which are anticipated to be conducive to the clinical identification of AD progression.
