• Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Rhei Rhizoma and Coptidis Rhizoma Mixture on Reflux Esophagitis in Rats

        Kwon, O Jun,Kim, Min Yeong,Shin, Sung Ho,Lee, Ah Reum,Lee, Joo Young,Seo, Bu-il,Shin, Mi-Rae,Choi, Hyun Gyu,Kim, Jeong Ah,Min, Byung Sun,Kim, Gyo-Nam,Noh, Jeong Sook,Rhee, Man Hee,Roh, Seong-Soo Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2016 Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medic Vol.2016 No.-

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the combined extract of Rhei rhizoma and Coptidis rhizoma (RC-mix) in experimental model of acute reflux esophagitis. The antioxidant activity was assessed by in vitro 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. RC-mix was given at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight 2 h prior to induction of reflux esophagitis (RE). After 5 h, the effects of RC-mix treated rats were compared with those of normal and control rats. The representative flavonoid contents of RC-mix, such as sennoside A, epiberberine, coptisine, palmatine, and berberine, were detected using HPLC. The elevated esophageal mucosa damage was markedly ameliorated by RC-mix treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the administration of RC-mix reduced the increase of serum reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxynitrite (ONOO−). The improvement of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels were marked in the group given RC-mix. Moreover, the elevation of inflammatory mediators and cytokines by nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) activation in control rats decreased by RC-mix pretreatment. These results indicate that RC-mix treatment reduces the pathological states of esophagitis via regulating NF-κB mediated inflammation related to oxidative stress.

Isolation of Megastigmane Sesquiterpenes from the Silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) Droppings and Their Promotion Activity on HO-1 and SIRT1

        Ji-Hae Park,Do-Gyeong Lee,Seung-Woo Yeon,Hyuk-Sang Kwon,Jong-Hee Ko,Dong-Jin Shin,Han-Sol Park,Yong-Soon Kim,Myun-Ho Bang,NAM-IN BAEK 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.4

The silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) droppings were extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH, and the concentrated extract was partitioned in succession with EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H_2O. From the EtOAc fraction, five megastigmane sesquiterpenes were isolated through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. According to the results of spectroscopic data, such as NMR, MS, and IR, the chemical structures of the isolated compounds were determined as (3S,5R,8R)-3,5-dihydroxymegastigma-6,7-dien-9-one (1), (S)-dehydrovomifoliol (2), (6R,7E,9R)-9-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-3-one (3), (3S,5R,6S,7E)-3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (4), (6R,9R)-9-hydroxy-4-megastigmen-3-one (5). Compounds 2 through 5 were isolated for the first time from silkworm droppings. GC/MS analysis indicated silkworm powder contained compound 3, and mulberry leaves contained compound 4. Compounds 1 and 5 increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 and SIRT1 in HepG2 and HEK239 cells, respectively. Heme oxygenase-1 is considered to be an antioxidant enzyme that catabolizes heme to carbon monoxide, free iron and biliverdin, while SIRT1 is the mammalian homologue of the yeast silent information regulator (Sir)-2, which are involved in the suppression of inflammatory mediators or factors that may be used to improve atopy-related symptoms.

In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of pegmatite

        Jo, Wol-Soon,Yang, Kwang-Mo,Choi, Yoo-Jin,Jeong, Chang-Hwa,Ahn, Kyoung-Jin,Nam, Byung-Hyouk,Lee, Sang-Wha,Seo, Su-Yeong,Jeong, Min-Ho The Korean Society of Toxicogenomics and Toxicopro 2010 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.6 No.2

Pegmatite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock rich in rare elements such as uranium, tungsten, and tantalum with Ca, K, Mg, Fe, Se, Ge, and Ho. We tested in vitro and in vivo assays for the anti-inflammatory activity of pegmatites. We firstly evaluated the suppressive effects of pegmatite on macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with proinflammatory stimuli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to determine nitric oxide (NO) production and TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 release. The $IC_{50}$ values of pegmatite exceeded $5,000\;{\mu}g/mL$. Treatment of RAW 264.7 cells with pegmatite significantly inhibited LPS-stimulated NO production and proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 secretion in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). In vivo studies were tested with two animal models of arachidonic acid-induced mouse ear edema and an acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability. The pegmatite significantly attenuated ear edema induced by arachidonic acid and reduced the acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability in mice (P<0.05) when the pegmatite was administered topically (10 mg per ear) for 24 h. Therefore, pegmatite potentially shows an anti-inflammatory activity in the in vitro and in vivo mice and in the development of newer anti-inflammatory agents as mineral materials.

병원구매업무에 있어서의 전자상거래 도입에 관한 연구 : 구매부서 관리자의 인식도를 중심으로 Focused on the Understanding of Purchasing Managers

황은범 ( Eun Bum Hwang ),남상요 ( Sang Yo Nam ),하호욱 ( Ho Uk Ha ),이창은 ( Chang Eun Lee ) 한국병원경영학회 2001 병원경영학회지 Vol.6 No.3

This study is focused that the electronic commerce(EC) on the purchasing section may improve the efficiency and transparency of the hospitals management. After reviewing the purchasing activity of hospitals, I study the introduction, expected effects, and problems of EC. So, I am going to provide basic information for activating EC. The samples are managers of 170 hospitals, which are located on Seoul. As a result of collection this survey, I analyze 79 hospitals. For data analysis, I use X^2-test and ANOVA for purchasing management and the relevance of EC according to the level of care. The results of this study are 1. the problems on the management of purchasing section are : firstly, they don't have sufficient time to study market. Secondly, it is difficult to find competitive suppliers. And, lastly, they cannot gather a lot of information about the price of products. 2. There are many answers of the needs on the introduction of B2B. However, some hospitals think they don't need it. But, the most answers are that the EC will be settled within 4 years. So, we can realize that these hospitals are getting interested on the EC. On the other hand, I find that they prefer outside EC companies for the introduction of EC. 3. On the expected effects on EC, first is the effectiveness of the market survey. The next is to collect information of adequate price of products owing to clear transaction, find easier new suppliers and gather useful data. 4. On the external problems of the introduction of EC, there is low credibility related to the security and the weakness of suppliers' information system. Especially, on the Real Transaction Price Payment system, the bigger bed size, the higher understanding on these problems. On the internal problems of the introduction of EC, first is the burden of the introduction of EC and operating cost. Especially, on the burden of the disclosure of revenue source, the smaller bed size, the higher understanding on this problem. So, this is a point which deserves my attention statistically. However, this shows relatively little understanding about incomplete the standard of product category and the weak information system of hospital. Through this study, I am going to suggest 3 points for the activation of the introduction of EC on hospitals. 1. The reform of the Real Transaction Price Payment System on medical supplies and materials for medical treatment. 2. The establishment of the standard of product category. 3. The promotion of information system based on network.

New Approach for Transient Radiation SPICE Model of CMOS Circuit

        Sang-Hun Jeong,Nam-Ho Lee,Jong-Yeol Lee,Seong-Ik Cho 대한전기학회 2013 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.8 No.5

Transient radiation is emitted during a nuclear explosion and causes fatal errors as upset and latch-up in CMOS circuits. This paper proposes the transient radiation SPICE models of NMOS, PMOS, and INVERTER based on the transient radiation analysis using TCAD (Technology Computer Aided Design). To make the SPICE model of a CMOS circuit, the photocurrent in the PN junction of NMOS and PMOS was replaced as current source, and a latch-up phenomenon in the inverter was applied using a parasitic thyristor. As an example, the proposed transient radiation SPICE model was applied to a CMOS NAND circuit. The CMOS NAND circuit was simulated by SPICE and TCAD using the 0.18um CMOS process model parameter. The simulated results show that the SPICE results were similar to the TCAD simulation and the test results of commercial CMOS NAND IC. The simulation time was reduced by 120 times compared to the TCAD simulation.

Bendable and Thin Sulfide Solid Electrolyte Film: A New Electrolyte Opportunity for Free-Standing and Stackable High-Energy All-Solid-State Lithium-Ion Batteries

        Nam, Young Jin,Cho, Sung-Ju,Oh, Dae Yang,Lim, Jun-Muk,Kim, Sung Youb,Song, Jun Ho,Lee, Young-Gi,Lee, Sang-Young,Jung, Yoon Seok American Chemical Society 2015 NANO LETTERS Vol.15 No.5

Bulk-type all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASLBs) are considered a promising candidate to outperform the conventional lithium-ion batteries. Unfortunately, the current technology level of ASLBs is in a stage of infancy in terms of cell-based (not electrode-material-based) energy densities and scalable fabrication. Here, we report on the first ever bendable and thin sulfide solid electrolyte films reinforced with a mechanically compliant poly(paraphenylene terephthalamide) nonwoven (NW) scaffold, which enables the fabrication of free-standing and stackable ASLBs with high energy density and high rate capabilities. The ASLB, using a thin (∼70 μm) NW-reinforced SE film, exhibits a 3-fold increase of the cell-energy-density compared to that of a conventional cell without the NW scaffold.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

      • Spatio-temporal change in forest cover and carbon storage considering actual and potential forest cover in South Korea.

        Nam, Kijun,Lee, Woo-Kyun,Kim, Moonil,Kwak, Doo-Ahn,Byun, Woo-Hyuk,Yu, Hangnan,Kwak, Hanbin,Kwon, Taesung,Sung, Joohan,Chung, Dong-Jun,Lee, Seung-Ho Jointly published by Science China Press and Sprin 2015 Science China. Life sciences Vol.58 No.7

This study analyzes change in carbon storage by applying forest growth models and final cutting age to actual and potential forest cover for six major tree species in South Korea. Using National Forest Inventory data, the growth models were developed to estimate mean diameter at breast height, tree height, and number of trees for Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Larix kaempferi, Castanea crenata and Quercus spp. stands. We assumed that actual forest cover in a forest type map will change into potential forest covers according to the Hydrological and Thermal Analogy Groups model. When actual forest cover reaches the final cutting age, forest volume and carbon storage are estimated by changed forest cover and its growth model. Forest volume between 2010 and 2110 would increase from 126.73 to 157.33 m(3) hm(-2). Our results also show that forest cover, volume, and carbon storage could abruptly change by 2060. This is attributed to the fact that most forests are presumed to reach final cutting age. To avoid such dramatic change, a regeneration and yield control scheme should be prepared and implemented in a way that ensures balance in forest practice and yield.
