Nuclear DNA content variation of three Miscanthus species in China

        Xi Li,Die Hu,Manman Luo,Ming Zhu,Xinwei Li,Fan Luo,Jianqiang Li,Juan Yan 한국유전학회 2013 Genes & Genomics Vol.35 No.1

In order to estimate the variation in nuclear genome size in Miscanthus, flow cytometry of nuclei stained by propidium iodide was carried out using 36 populations of three Miscanthus species: M. lutarioriparius, M. sacchariflorus and M. sinensis, which were sampled from cold northern to warm and humid southern and central China, as well as near the sea level in eastern China to mountains in western China. The DNA content of diploid was 4.37 ±0.02 pg/2C in M. lutarioriparius, 4.37 ± 0.01 pg/2C in M. sacchariflorus, and 5.37 ± 0.03 pg/2C in M. sinensis, respectively. There was no intraspecific variation in the three Miscanthus species at the diploid level, suggesting that the genome size was stable within species and the diverse environments did not induce variation in genome size at the diploid level. However, tetraploid populations were found in M. lutarioriparius and M. sacchariflorus, and their genome sizes were 8.56 and 8.54 pg, respectively, which are lower than expected values (8.74 pg), indicating the genome downsizing after polyploidization in the genus. Our results showed that the plant height of M. lutarioriparius was the highest one among the three species and the species was more closely related to M. sacchariflorus than M. sinensis. The intra-species genomic variation and inter-species differentiation in Miscanthus species provide important genetic and genomic information for the development of Miscanthus, especially for the endemic species, M. lutarioriparius,(together with Miscanthus 9 giganteus) which are now emerging as a key bio-energy crop because of their high yields and strong adaptability.

      • Neutrophil Count and the Inflammation-based Glasgow Prognostic Score Predict Survival in Patients with Advanced Gastric Cancer Receiving First-line Chemotherapy

        Li, Qing-Qing,Lu, Zhi-Hao,Yang, Li,Lu, Ming,Zhang, Xiao-Tian,Li, Jian,Zhou, Jun,Wang, Xi-Cheng,Gong, Ji-Fang,Gao, Jing,Li, Jie,Li, Yan,Shen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Purpose: To explore the value of systemic inflammatory markers as independent prognostic factors and the extent these markers improve prognostic classification for patients with inoperable advanced or metastatic gastric cancer (GC) receiving palliative chemotherapy. Methods: We studied the prognostic value of systemic inflammatory factors such as circulating white blood cell count and its components as well as that combined to form inflammation-based prognostic scores (Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS), Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), Platelet Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR), Prognostic Index (PI) and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI)) in 384 patients with inoperable advanced or metastatic gastric cancer (GC) receiving first-line chemotherapy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to examine the impact of inflammatory markers on overall survival (OS). Results: Univariate analysis revealed that an elevated white blood cell, neutrophil and/or platelet count, a decreased lymphocyte count, a low serum albumin concentration, and high CRP concentration, as well as elevated NLR/PLR, GPS, PI, PNI were significant predictors of shorter OS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that only elevated neutrophil count (HR 3.696, p=0.003) and higher GPS (HR 1.621, p=0.01) were independent predictors of poor OS. Conclusion: This study demonstrated elevated pretreatment neutrophil count and high GPS to be independent predictors of shorter OS in inoperable advanced or metastatic GC patients treated with first-line chemotherapy. Upon validation of these data in independent studies, stratification of patients using these markers in future clinical trials is recommended.

Influence of vacuum annealing on structures and mechanical properties of AleTieN films deposited by multi-arc ion plating

Ming Xi Li,Fei Cai,Shi Hong Zhang 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.7

The AleTieN films deposited by multi-arc ion plating have been annealed in vacuum within the range of 700-1100 ℃. X-ray diffraction results showed that the structure of the films underwent the formation of coherent c-TiN and c-AlN for the annealing temperatures were up to 900 ℃. A new phase AlTix (x = 0.50,0.56, 3) was observed after annealing. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed the intensity of TieAl bonds decreased as annealing temperatures increased, indicating the decomposition of (Al, Ti)N into c-TiN and c-AlN were at the expense of TieAl bonds. Differential scanning calorimetry experiments were used to investigate the dynamic behavior of the films during annealing process and the results showed that the N2 formed as a consequence of the phase transformation process. The release of the N2resulted in the peeling of the films from the substrates. The film exhibited a maximum hardness of 39 GPa after 900 ℃ annealing due to the formation of coherent c-TiN and c-AlN phases. In addition, we also investigated the influence of vacuum annealing on adhesive strength.

Self-healing of Kirkendall voids and IMC growth in the interfacial reaction of novel Ni/Cu bi-layer barrier and solder

        Haokun Li,Chongyang Li,Peixin Chen,Rui Xi,Feifei Li,Huiqin Ling,Ming Li 대한금속·재료학회 2024 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.20 No.5

Single Ni layer is often inserted as diffusion barrier between Cu pillar and Sn-based solder to avoid excessive growth ofbrittle intermetallic compounds (IMCs) and consequent Kirkendall voids (KVs) in microbumps. However, with shrinkingsize of microbumps, Ni layer cannot maintain the inhibition performance as its thickness is reduced as well. In this work,Ni/Cu bi-layer barrier was employed at Cu-Sn interface, which was expected to reduce diffusion by rapidly generatedCu-Sn IMC retarding the diffusion of Ni. IMC growth behavior and interfacial reaction during isothermal aging wereinvestigated. The self-healing phenomenon of KVs was detected during aging at 150 °C . It’s attributed to the transformationfrom Cu 3 Sn to Cu 6 Sn 5 . The novel barrier exhibited excellent inhibition property compared with single Ni layer withslower IMC growth rate and less Cu substrate diffusion. Moreover, during 170 °C aging test, the Ni/Cu bi-layer barriershowed no sign of depletion until 600 h, while the single Ni barrier was completely depleted after 144 h. Such excellentinhibition property is benefi cial to the future application of ultra-thin barrier layer in microbumps.

Adaptive Multiple MPC for a Wind Farm with DFIG

        Xiao-ming LI,Xi ZHANG,Zhong-wei LIN,Yu-guang NIU,Ming-yang LI,Noel Vishal Nathan 대한전기학회 2016 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.11 No.5

For low investment and flexible control, doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is becoming the dominant type that is been used in the wind farms (WFs) today. The report researches about the rotor-side controller of DFIG where all design is based on the single machine infinite bus (SMIB) model. The interactions between the different generators have not been considered in the SMIB model, and the desired performance cannot be obtained by using the controller based on this model. In this situation, an adaptive decentralized-coordinated multiple model predictive control (ADM-MPC) is proposed. First, the interaction measurement method is developed to obtain the interaction measurement model of DFIG, where the interactions between the different generators have been considered. Next, an adaptive multiple MPC based on the obtained interaction measurement method of DFIG is employed to control the rotor-side converter of DFIG. In order to cope with the stochastic disturbance of wind turbine, the augment state structure is employed to improve the tracking control performance. An artificial neural network (ANN) trained online is employed as a weighting controller to cope with the nonlinearities and large operating range of DFIG. A simple, generic renewable power system (RPS) is used to demonstrate contributions. The results of both dominant eigenvalue analysis and time response simulations are represented to illustrate contributions to system damping and transient stability that the DFIG based WF can make with the proposed ADM-MPC controller.

In vitro antiproliferative activity against human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells was tested, among which, compounds 2, 5, 6 and 7 exhibited strong growth inhibitory effects with GI50 values ranging from 1.30 to 9.08 lM, respectively. Preliminary SARs were also discussed.

      • Weight Loss Correlates with Macrophage Inhibitory Cytokine-1 Expression and Might Influence Outcome in Patients with Advanced Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Lu, Zhi-Hao,Yang, Li,Yu, Jing-Wei,Lu, Ming,Li, Jian,Zhou, Jun,Wang, Xi-Cheng,Gong, Ji-Fang,Gao, Jing,Zhang, Xiao-Tian,Li, Jie,Li, Yan,Shen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Weight loss during chemotherapy has not been exclusively investigated. Macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) might play a role in its etiology. Here, we investigated the prognostic value of weight loss before chemotherapy and its relationship with MIC-1 concentration and its occurrence during chemotherapy in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Materials and Methods: We analyzed 157 inoperable locally advanced or metastatic ESCC patients receiving first-line chemotherapy. Serum MIC-1 concentrations were assessed before chemotherapy. Patients were assigned into two groups according to their weight loss before or during chemotherapy:>5% weight loss group and ${\leq}5%$ weight loss group. Results: Patients with weight loss>5% before chemotherapy had shorter progression-free survival period (5.8 months vs. 8.7 months; p=0.027) and overall survival (10.8 months vs. 20.0 months; p=0.010). Patients with weight loss >5% during chemotherapy tended to have shorter progression-free survival (6.0 months vs. 8.1 months; p=0.062) and overall survival (8.6 months vs. 18.0 months; p=0.022), and if weight loss was reversed during chemotherapy, survival rates improved. Furthermore, serum MIC-1 concentration was closely related to weight loss before chemotherapy (p=0.001) Conclusions: Weight loss both before and during chemotherapy predicted poor outcome in advanced ESCC patients, and MIC-1 might be involved in the development of weight loss in such patients.

        Ming Yang,Ya-xi Shang,Zi-yu Tian,Min Xiong,Chun-li Lu,Jiang Yue,Zhang Yao,Zhang Ying-ying,Jin Xin-yan,Jin Qiu-bai,Zhang Ying-ying,Willcox Merlin L.,Liu Jian-ping 한국한의학연구원 2020 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.9 No.3

Background: The World Health Organization characterized the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a pandemic on March 11th. Many clinical trials on COVID-19 have been registered, and we aim to review the study characteristics and provide guidance for future trials to avoid duplicated effort. Methods: Studies on COVID-19 registered before March 3rd, 2020 on eight registry platforms worldwide were searched and the data of design, participants, interventions, and outcomes were extracted and analyzed. Results: Three hundred and ninety-three studies were identified and 380 (96.7%) were from mainland China, while 3 in Japan, 3 in France, 2 in the US, and 3 were international collaborative studies. Two hundred and sixty-six (67.7%) aimed at therapeutic effect, others were for prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, etc. Two hundred and two studies (51.4%) were randomized controlled trials. Two third of therapeutic studies tested Western medicines including antiviral drugs (17.7%), stem cell and cord blood therapy (10.2%), chloroquine and derivatives (8.3%), 16 (6.0%) on Chinese medicines, and 73 (27.4%) on integrated therapy of Western and Chinese medicines. Thirty-one studies among 266 therapeutic studies (11.7%) used mortality as primary outcome, while the most designed secondary outcomes were symptoms and signs (47.0%). Half of the studies (45.5%) had not started recruiting till March 3rd. Conclusion: Inappropriate outcome setting, delayed recruitment and insufficient numbers of new cases in China implied many studies may fail to complete. Strategies and protocols of the studies with robust and rapid data sharing are warranted for emergency public health events, helping the timely evidence-based decision-making.
