Study Objective: To examine the effects of intraosseous saline infusion on hematologic parameters. Design and Setting: Eight New Zealand White rabbits were anesthized intramuscular ketamine injection, An initial blood sample was withdrawn from an earlobe artery under introduction of anesthesia. An 18-gauge intraosseous(10) needle was inserted into proximal tibia of rabbits, and 10 mL/kg of normal saline was infused over two minutes after the intraosseus needle insertion. Measurements: Complete blood counts were performed on the blood sampled. The light microscopic examination of the peripheral blood smear was perfomed by clinical pathologic staff. Results: No statistically significant differences were found in hematologic paramenters from samples drawn before and after intraosseous infusion. Conclusion: We advocate less caution in the interpretation of hematologic studies performed on blood samples obtained soon after an intraosseous infusion.

The full automation of welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, productivity, microstructure and weld properties in arc welding processes have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on the specific experimental results. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop an neural network model to predict the weld top-bead height as a function of key process parameters in the welding. and to compare the developed model and a simple neural network model using two different training algorithms in order to select an optimal neural network model.

This study was conducted to figure out the effect of 'Methlyen Urea(MU)', slow released fertilizer and 'T-Vigor', microbial fertilizer as environment fertilizer on growth of 'Crenshaw' creeping bentgrass for environmental management in golf course. This study was conducted at NO. 3, 4, 5 Valley Courses of Rexfield Country Club from April to July in 2004.<br/> MU, T-Vigor, sterilized T-Vigor were applied five times with 5g and 7 .5ml per square meter, respectively. Polt size was 1 square meter and there were three replications with Completely Randomize Design. Collecting data were turf density(No. of shoot /㎠), chlorophyll amount(%), root length(cm), dry weight of clipping(g), and dry weight of root(g). The results are as follows;<br/> All of turf density, chlorophyll amount and dry weight(g) of MU and T-Vigor were better than control and sterilized T-Vigor. Especially root length of MU and T-Vigor was superior to control and sterilized T-Vigor, even if temperature and humidity was high.<br/> In conclusion, MU and T-Vigor might be used as slow release fertilizer for environmental green management in golf course.

Brown rice contains beneficial phytonutrients such as antioxidants, anthocyanins and oryzanol. However, information on oryzanol contents and genetic data of Korean rice landraces are very limited. This study was conducted to investigate varietal differences of the oryzanol content, and analyze the genetic diversity of 196 Korean rice landraces. The total γ-oryzanol content of the germplasm tested varied from 9.8 to 55.9 mg 100g -1 , with an average value of 27.2 mg 100g -1 . Among the germplasm, IT007903, IT007714, IT006622 and IT006125 accessions showed γ-oryzanol contents higher than 50mg 100g -1 . Of the total γ-oryzanol components, 24-methylene cycloartenyl ferulate was the most prevalent with an average value of 29.9% followed by cycloartenyl ferulate (26.7%). A total of 396 distinct alleles were identified in genetic diversity using 46 SSR markers. Average observed heterozygosity (HO) was 0.009, while the expected heterozygosity (HE) was 0.497, indicating a considerable amount of polymorphism within this collection. A genetic distance-based phylogeny grouped into seven clusters with a genetic distance (GD) value of 0.6. According to the phylogenetic analysis, roughly 7 clusters were divergent, 4 of which exhibited significantly different γ-oryzanol content (P<0.001). The selected accessions with identified traits can be used as donor parents in rice breeding to improve the γ -oryzanol content of rice.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an eye care protocol for intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Method: A systematic review was conducted to develop an eye care protocol for ICU patients. Searches were performed using computerized databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, EBM Review) and citation search from 1996 to January 2007. For the keywords, "eye care", and "randomized controlled trial" were used to identify experimental studies regarding eye care for ICU patients. After reviewing the collected studies, a preliminary eye care protocol algorithm was created. Then, content validity was examined with ophthalmologists and ICU nurses. Results: Six studies were included to serve as a basis for framing of the preliminary algorithm. The final eye care protocol was completed after verifying the preliminary algorithm's content validity. The final eye care protocol was organized in the following manner: 3 items in the assessment stage, 7 items in the no-risk stage, 4 items in the low-risk stage, and 5 items in the high-risk stage. Conclusion: The results indicate that, for leu patients, nurses can broaden their knowledge regarding ocular diseases, as well as improve their practice-based eye care nursing performance.

Two genetic loci, PKD1 and PKD2, have been identified as being responsible for ADPKD, but the presence of an intrafamilial clinical diversity suggests that there are disease-modifying loci. We studied the associations between polymorphism in the ecNOS gene, which are known to be associated with chronic tubulointerstitial and vascular changes, and ADPKD progression in Korean patients. A total of 112 individuals who had ADPKD and 41 normal control subjects were genotyped by PCR-RFLP, the Glu298Asp variant of ecNOS gene was discriminated with MboI. The distribution of the alleles for the ecNOS Glu298Asp polymorphism in ADPKD was: G 88 %, T 12 %, which was similar to the result of Korean population (95:5, p = 0.128) but different from Western controls (65:35, p = 0.000). No differences were found between the CRF and the non-CRF groups (p = 1.000) or the early hypertension and the normotension groups (p = 1.000). In conclusion, our results suggest that the polymorphism at Glu298Asp of ecNOS has no association with the renal progression in Korean ADPKD patients.
Dental Survey of the Adolescent at Gwangju-Si for Water Fluoridation

Objective: Dental survey was performed for adolescent at Gwangju-si order to evaluate the caries prevention effect of the water fluoridation for 15 years, and the questionnaire was performed to investigate such consciousness for caries or periodontal disease and toothbrushing habit for adolescent at Gwangju-si. Methods: Five hundred fifty-eight adolescents as 252 in age 12 years, 306 in age 15 were examined the oral health by 2 trained dentists and 3 staffs and caries experience data were collected to compare the data with the national survey. Results: Decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index in 12 years old was 1.10 and decayed, missing, and filled surfaces (DMFS) was calculated as 1.52. DMFT index in 15 years old was estimated as 2.59 and DMFS index was 3.79. Caries experience was lower in both age groups at Gwangju City than at middle city in national survey data (p<0.05). Conclusion: Caries experience was lower in adolescent group at Gwangju-si than in national survey, so, water fluoridation for 15 years might be effective for caries prevention at Gwangju area. It was recommended that water fluoridation at this city should be continued.

Objective: Dental survey was performed for primary school students at Gwangju-si order to evaluate the caries prevention effect of the water fluoridation for 15 years at Gwangju-si. Methods: Five-hundred sixty-four children as 289 in age 8 years, 275 in age 10 were examined the oral health by 2 trained dentists and 3 staffs and caries experience data were collected to compare the data with the national survey. Results: Decayed, missing, and filled teeth of permanent teeth (DMFT) index in 8 years old was 0.37 and decayed, missing, and filled surfaces of permanent teeth (DMFS) was calculated as 0.44. DMFT index in 10 years old was estimated as 0.66 and DMFS index was 0.83. Caries experience was lower in both age groups at Gwangju-si than at middle city in national survey data (p<0.05). Conclusion: Caries experience was lower in children group at Gwangju-si than in national survey, so, water fluoridation for 15 years might be effective for caries prevention at Gwangju area. This is thought to be the result of the tap water fluoridation project implemented for the last 16 years and thus, it is thought to be reasonable to continue tap water fluoridation projects in the future.
Reconsidering Animistic Thinking from Post-humanism

This study suggests an alternative understanding about animistic thinking in view of post-humanism. This study reconsider whether an animistic thinking, which is a characteristic of a premature thought that must be “eliminated” from the human development stages or it needs to be respected and preserved. For this purpose, we examined previous animistic thinking researches with an education trend. Based on the results of this study, animistic thinking is not a characteristic of ‘pre-operational stage’, but it is worth needing to be supported and respected for the co-existence of living and non-living things. This study presents an alternative understanding of animistic thinking in the view of post-humanism, and it has the academic significance in that it broadens the horizon of the new understanding of animistic thinking. Furthermore, this study expects people to look back on the education in the view of ‘human/child- centered’ which is significant in post-modernism eras, and we want this study to act as catalyst to consider human/child-respected education.
