        김대웅(Kim, Dae-woong),이상옥(Lee, Sang-ok) 한국어문학회 2016 語文學 Vol.0 No.133

This essay purposes to explain the consciousness on time in Lee Sang’s poems, focusing specifically on his poem, Strange Reversible Reaction. The argument will start from the obvious fact that the poet"s literature was based on the discovery of the material condition, called, the colony Gyeongsung. Through this discussion, what caused rejection and distrust for the time, which appear repeatedly in his literary texts, will be explained. Once, the modernist Lee Sang was dreaming of the perfect world of modernity. But the modern world he experienced was nothing but a cruel civilization with no vitality. As a result, he gave the death sentence to the world and tried to build up a new civilization. His literary texts will answer to the question, “Did the straight line kill the circle?”

      • History of Bioelectrical Study and the Electrophysiology of the Primo Vascular System

        Park, Sang Hyun,Kim, Eung Hwi,Chang, Ho Jong,Yoon, Seung Zhoo,Yoon, Ji Woong,Cho, Seong-Jin,Ryu, Yeon-Hee Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2013 Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medic Vol.2013 No.-

<P><I>Background</I>. Primo vascular system is a new anatomical structure whose research results have reported the possibility of a new circulatory system similar to the blood vascular system and cells. Electrophysiology, which measures and analyzes bioelectrical signals tissues and cells, is an important research area for investigating the function of tissues and cells. The bioelectrical study of the primo vascular system has been reported by using modern techniques since the early 1960s by Bonghan Kim. This paper reviews the research result of the electrophysiological study of the primo vascular system for the discussion of the circulatory function. We hope it would help to study the electrophysiology of the primo vascular system for researchers. This paper will use the following exchangeable expressions: Kyungrak system = Bonghan system = Bonghan circulatory system = primo vascular system = primo system; Bonghan corpuscle = primo node; Bonghan duct = primo vessel. We think that objective descriptions of reviewed papers are more important than unified expressions when citing the papers. That said, this paper will unify the expressions of the primo vascular system.</P>

Evaluation of Renal Toxicity by Combination Exposure to Melamine and Cyanuric Acid in Male Sprague-Dawley Rats

Son, Ji Yeon,Kang, Yoon Jong,Kim, Kyeong Seok,Kim, Tae Hyung,Lim, Sung Kwang,Lim, Hyun Jung,Jeong, Tae Cheon,Choi, Dal Woong,Chung, Kyu Hyuck,Lee, Byung Mu,Kim, Hyung Sik Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2014 Toxicological Research Vol.30 No.2

Melamine-induced nephrotoxicity is closely associated with crystal formation in the kidney caused by combined exposure to melamine (Mel) and cyanuric acid (CA). However, there are few dosage-finding studies for toxicological evaluation of chronic co-exposure to Mel and CA. The objective of this study was to investigate the possible mechanism by which a Mel and CA mixture lead to renal toxicity in rats. Mel and CA were co-administered to rats via oral gavage for 50 days. Nephrotoxicity was determined by measuring blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (sCr) levels. Relative kidney weights were significantly increased in rats after co-exposure to Mel+CA (63/6.3 or 630/6.3 mg/kg) mixtures. BUN and sCr levels were significantly increased after Mel and CA co-exposure. Taken together, significant increase in KIM-1, NGAL, and calbindin levels were observed in the urine of rats exposed to Mel+CA (63/6.3 or 630/6.3 mg/kg) compared with the corresponding control group. Histological analysis revealed epithelial degeneration and necrotic cell death in the proximal tubules of the kidney after co-exposure to Mel+CA (63/6.3 or 630/6.3 mg/kg). Our data suggest that Mel-mediated renal toxicity may be influenced by CA concentrations in Mel-contaminated milk or foods.

Rapid Identification of Jasmine Virus H Infecting Ixora coccinea by Nanopore Metatranscriptomics

        Sung-Woong Kim(Sung-Woong Kim),Hyo-Jeong Lee(Hyo-Jeong Lee),Sena Choi(Sena Choi),In-Sook Cho(In-Sook Cho),Rae-Dong Jeong(Rae-Dong Jeong) 한국식물병리학회 2023 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.39 No.3

The global climate change and international trade have facilitated the movement of plants across borders, increasing the risk of introducing novel plant viruses in new territories. Ixora coccinea exhibited virus-like foliar symptoms, including mosaic and mild mottle. An Oxford Nanopore Technologies-based compact and portable MinION platform was used to identify the causal viral pathogen. The complete genome sequence of jasmine virus H (JaVH; 3867 nt, JaVH-CNU) was determined and found to share 88.4-90.3% nucleotide identity with that of Jasminum sambac JaVH isolate in China. Phylogenetic analysis based on the complete amino acid sequences of RNA-dependent RNA poly-merase and coat protein revealed that JaVH-CNU was grouped separately with other JaVH isolates. This is the first report of a natural JaVH infection of I. coccinea. The application of rapid nanopore sequencing for plant virus identification was demonstrated and is expected to provide accurate and rapid diagnosis for virus sur-veillance.

Tractional Retinal Detachment in Eyes with Vitreous Hemorrhage and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Posterior Vitreous Detachment in Fellow Eye

        Chan Woong Joo(Chan Woong Joo),Yerim An(Yerim An),Yong-Kyu Kim(Yong-Kyu Kim),Yong Dae Kim(Yong Dae Kim),Sung Pyo Park(Sung Pyo Park),Kyoung Lae Kim(Kyoung Lae Kim) 대한안과학회 2023 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.37 No.3

Purpose: To predict the presence of tractional retinal detachment (TRD) in eyes with dense vitreous hemorrhage (VH) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) by evaluating the status of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in fellow eyes using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods: A total of 44 eyes from 22 patients who underwent vitrectomy due to dense VH with PDR were enrolled. Using OCT, the PVD status in the fellow eye was divided into two groups (incomplete and complete PVD). The incomplete PVD group included eyes without PVD and eyes with partial PVD. B-scan ultrasonography was performed on eyes with dense VH to evaluate the presence of TRD. Both OCT and B-scan images were reviewed by four ophthalmologists (two novices and two experienced), and the interobserver agreement was evaluated. Results: There was a difference in the interobserver agreement regarding the presence of TRD in eyes with dense VH evaluated by B scan between novice and experienced ophthalmologists (novice, κ = 0.421 vs. experienced, κ = 0.814), although there was no difference between novice and experienced ophthalmologists in the interobserver agreement regarding the status of PVD in the fellow eye evaluated by OCT (novice, κ = 1.000 vs. experienced, κ = 1.000). All observed TRD during vitrectomy occurred in eyes with incomplete PVD in the fellow eye. Logistic regression analysis revealed a statistically significant relation between TRD and the age of the patient (odds ratio [OR], 0.874; p = 0.047), and between TRD and incomplete PVD in the fellow eye evaluated by OCT (OR, 13.904; p = 0.042). Conclusions: Evaluation of the PVD status in the fellow eye using OCT may be a useful predictor for detecting the presence of TRD in eyes with dense VH and PDR.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Aluminum can be ionized in water by reacting with chlorides. Aluminum ions (Al3+) are believed to be very harmful to human health and are associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The detection of Al3+ is extremely important, but conventional methods suffer from low sensitivity and cumbersome processes. Herein, we report ultra-sensitive and label-free detection of Al3+ using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM). Al3+ was exposed on citrated AuNPs with different concentrations; Al3+/AuNP complexes were constructed via binding interactions between Al3+ and the citrates. By probing the Al3+/AuNP complexes, we quantified the degree of interactions between Al3+ and the citrated AuNPs using KPFM. As the Al3+ concentration decreased, KPFM succeeded in exhibiting ultra-sensitive detection as low as 2amol (limit of detection 1pM, single droplet 2μL). We tested real samples from a sheet of aluminum foil, and detected ∼748amol (∼374pM, single droplet 2μL) Al3+. The results indicate that the combination of AuNPs and KPFM offers a robust, facile, and an ultra-sensitive platform technology for detecting Al3+.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Ultra-sensitive and label-free sensing technique for Al3+ ion sensing is proposed. </LI> <LI> The technique relies on surface potential changes of Al3+/AuNP complexes. </LI> <LI> Surface potential of complex is changed sensitively because of Al3+ ion charge. </LI> <LI> Al3+ ion is sensitively detected in boiled drinking water with aluminum foil. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Fluorometric detection of influenza virus RNA by PCR-coupled rolling circle amplification generating G-quadruplex

        Kim, Dong-Min,Seo, Jina,Jun, Bong-Hyun,Kim, Dong Ho,Jeong, Woong,Hwang, Sang-Hyun,Kim, Dong-Eun Elsevier 2017 Sensors and actuators. B, Chemical Vol.251 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a label-free fluorometric system based on double amplification of target nucleic acid by rolling circle amplification generating G-quadruplex (GQ-RCA) for sensitive detection of influenza virus RNA. To detect viral RNA with high sensitivity and selectivity, double amplification system was employed through reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) coupled in tandem with GQ-RCA. Single-stranded amplified viral DNA (ssDNA) was generated by RT-PCR of samples containing influenza virus RNA. The phosphate-primed DNA strand in amplicon DNA was subsequently degraded by lambda exonuclease. Viral ssDNA formed a ternary RCA initiation complex by annealing to both a partial hairpin primer and a dumbbell padlock DNA template. A long stretch of ssDNA containing repeated copies of the G-quadruplex sequence was generated by RCA at room temperature. Sensitive detection of amplified target nucleic acid was then accomplished by monitoring fluorogenic interactions between Thioflavin T (ThT) and RCA-responsive G-quadruplexes. Differences in fluorescence intensity between target and non-target viral RNA were evident under UV illumination. Selective fluorescence staining of RCA-responsive G-quadruplexes enabled influenza virus RNA detection at concentrations as low as 4.9aM with a linear detection range between 450aM and 450fM. The RT-PCR-coupled GQ-RCA system for influenza virus genome detection exhibited very high sensitivity and allowed convenient multiplexed virus detection within 2.5h. Thus, a combination of RT-PCR-coupled GQ-RCA and ThT fluorescence staining can be a sensitive and accurate method for detecting RNA molecules of influenza viruses as well as those of other viruses.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A fluorometric assay by rolling circle amplification (RCA) generating G-quadruplex. </LI> <LI> Reverse transcription PCR coupled in tandem with RCA for double amplification. </LI> <LI> Selective fluorescence staining of RCA-responsive G-quadruplexes with Thioflavin T. </LI> <LI> Influenza virus RNA detection with a detection limit of 4.9aM. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
