        개선된 중성염 전해공정을 이용한 모의 방사성금속폐기물의 제염

        원자력발전소에서 주로 발생되는 금속폐기물인 탄소강을 중성염전해질인 1.7M의 황산나트륨(Na₂SO₄)과 질산나트륨(NaNO₃)을 이용하여 기존전해제염과 개선된 전해제염공정의 비교실험을 수행하였다. 양극은 인코넬, 음극은 티타늄으로 하여 상온에서 1시간동안 반응시켜 금속폐기물 모재의 weight loss, 두께변화, 전해질 내 침전물농도, SEM을 이용하여 제염전후의 금속폐기물 표면의 형상을 분석하였다. 실험결과 개선된 전해제염 적용시 전해질 종류별 전류밀도 변화에 따른 실험에서는 전류밀도가 0.1∼0.6A/cm²으로 증가함에 따라 1.7M의 황산나트륨 적용시 금속폐기물 모재의 두께변화는 0.48±0.005∼67.7±0.02um, 1.7M의 질산나트륨 적용시에는 0.06±0.005∼17.7±0.05로 나타나 같은 전류밀도에서 황산나트륨 적용시 금속폐기물 모재의 표면 제염효율이 더욱 높은 양상을 보였다. 또한 전류밀도 0.3 A/cm² 및 1.7M의 황산나트륨의 조건에서 개선된 전해제염 적용 시 9.8±0.01um의 금속폐기물 두께변화를 보여 기존전해제염 적용시인 3.7±0.03um의 금속폐기물 두께변화보다 2배 이상의 표면 제염효과를 보였다. Conventional and modified electrolytic decontamination experiment were performed in the 1.7 M solution of sodium sulfate and sodium nitrate for decontamination of carbon steel as the simulated metal wastes which have been produced in large amounts from nuclear power plants. Anode and cathode were used as inconel and titanium respectively. The reaction time and temperature were 1 hr and 25℃. The analyses were performed of the characteristics such as weight loss and thickness change of metal waste, suspended solid in electrolyte and SEM observation. In modified electrolyte decontamination system with increased current density ranged from 0.1 to 0.6 A/cm², the metal waste showed thickness changes of 0.48±0.005 to 67.7±0.02um in 1.7 M sodium sulfate and those of 0.06±0.005 to 17.7±0.05um in sodium nitrate. Metal waste in modified electrolyte decontamination system showed the thickness change of 9.8±0.01um while it reacted up to 3.7±0.03um in conventional system with 0.3 A/cm² of current density and 1.7 M sodium sulfate. Decontamination efficiencies of modified electrolytic process are much higher than that of conventional electrolytic process when both are applied to metal waste.

        Effects on Ankle Dorsiflexor Activity to Active and Passive Perturbation Condition in Patients With Stroke

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of active and passive postural perturbation on ankle dorsiflexor responses in stroke patients. The subjects consisted of 13 stroke patients. Using wireless electromyography, the patients’ ankle dorsiflexor muscle responses were measured under the following conditions: active dorsiflexion (AD), active perturbation (AP), and passive perturbation (PP). Tibialis anterior muscle activity increased most significantly during PP of the affected side (118.64±56.28). The most significant increase for the non-affected side was in AD (72.64±24.56). Tibialis anterior muscle activity was compared under each condition. The affected side showed significant differences between PP and AD and between PP and AP (p<.05). The non-affected side showed not significant differences between each condition. The ratios of tibialis anterior muscle activity under AP to that under AD were 1.00 on the affected side and .75 on the non-affected side and the difference was not significant (p>.05). The ratios of tibialis anterior muscle activity under PP to that under AD were 3.30 on the affected side and 1.14 on the non-affected side and the difference was significant (p<.05). Passive perturbation improved tibialis anterior muscle activity on the affected side, and training based on this approach may have the potential to improve the ankle dorsiflexion of people with stroke.

        Allergenicity and Stability of 6 New Korean Bony Fish Extracts

        Purpose Diagnostic tests for allergen sensitization should reflect real exposure. We made 6 new bony fish extracts, which are consumed popularly in Korea, and evaluated their allergenicity and stability. Methods We manufactured fish extracts from codfish, mackerel, common eel, flounder, cutlass, and catfish. Protein and parvalbumin (PV) were evaluated by Bradford assay, 2-site enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and anti-PV immunoblotting. The immunoglobulin E (IgE) reactivities of the extracts were evaluated with ImmunoCAP and IgE immunoblotting using sera from 24 Korean fish allergy patients, 5 asymptomatic sensitizers, and 11 non-atopic subjects. Stability of the extracts stored in 4 different buffers were evaluated for up to a year. Results The protein concentrations of commercial SPT fish extracts varied with up to a 7.5-fold difference. SDS-PAGE showed marked differences in the PV concentrations of commercial SPT reagents. Specific IgE measurements for the following investigatory fish extracts—iCodfish, iMackerel, and iEel—were concordant with that of their corresponding Phadia ImmunoCAP measurements. ImmunoCAP results showed marked IgE cross-reactivity among the fish species, and the overall sensitivity of ImmunoCAP with the investigatory fish extracts for identification of culprit fish species was 85.7%. The protein and PV concentrations in the investigatory extracts were highly stable in saline with 0.3% phenol–50% glycerol at 4°C for up to a year. Conclusions The commercial SPT fish extracts exhibited considerable variation in terms of allergenicity, which may impact on diagnostic accuracy. Our new fish extracts have sufficient allergenicity and stability and may be adequate to various clinical applications.

        <P>The cell wall skeleton of Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG/CWS) is an effective antitumor immunotherapy agent. Here, we demonstrate that BCG/CWS has a radiosensitizing effect on colon cancer cells through the induction of autophagic cell death. Exposure of HCT116 colon cancer cells to BCG/CWS before ionizing radiation (IR) resulted in increased cell death in a caspase-independent manner. Treatment with BCG/CWS plus IR resulted in the induction of autophagy in colon cancer cells. Either the autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine or knockdown of beclin 1 or Atg7 significantly reduced tumor cell death induced by BCG/CWS plus IR, whereas the caspase inhibitor z-VAD-fmk failed to do so. BCG/CWS plus IR-mediated autophagy and cell death was mediated predominantly by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinase pathway functioned upstream of ROS generation in the induction of autophagy and cell death in HCT116 cells after co-treatment with BCG/CWS and IR. Furthermore, toll-like receptor (TLR) 2, and in part, TLR4, were responsible for BCG/CWS-induced radiosensitization. In vivo studies revealed that BCG/CWS-mediated radiosensitization of HCT116 xenograft growth is accompanied predominantly by autophagy. Our data suggest that BCG/CWS in combination with IR is a promising therapeutic strategy for enhancing radiation therapy in colon cancer cells through the induction of autophagy.</P>

      • A Case of HELLP Combined with AFLP

        HELLP is an acronym that refers to a syndrome characterized by hemolysis with a microangiopathic blood smear, elevated liver enzyme, and a low platelet count. It probably represents a severe form of preeclampsia, but the relationship between the two disorders remains controversial. HELLP may be difficult to distinguish clinically from AFLP since both occur at the same time in gestation and share several clinical features. A 37-year-old female at 25-week gestation, twin pregnancy, presented with labor pain, abdominal pain, spotting vaginal bleeding. She didn’t have any specific medical history. Physical examination revealed alert mental status, acute ill looking appearance. Her blood pressure 124/67mm Hg. Initial laboratory finding revealed mild anemia, no thrombocytopenia, PT 11.0 sec, INR 1.00, aPTT 25.6 sec, AST 34 IU/L, ALT 37 IU/L, protein 6.36g/dl, albumin 3.28g/dl, total bilirubin 0.28mg/dl and no proteinuria. Serology tests like HBsAg, HCV, HIV and HAV were all negative. We tried to suppress premature labor using tocolytics. After fourteen days, liver function test abruptly increased from 71 to 1,680 and from 53 to 840, respectively AST and ALT during 2 days. In the same period, platelet fell from 183,000/uL to 23,000/uL. LDH was 2,192 IU/L. PT was still normal. Ultrasonography revealed IUP around 27 weeks, hepatomegaly with increased periportal echogenicity and secondary GB wall mild swelling, that is, hepatitis finding and increased parenchyme echogenicity of liver, that is, underlying severe fatty liver. Although we did not check hemolysis in PB smear, presumptive diagnosis of HELLP was made. It was decided to perform an emergency lower segment caesarean section performed after about 5 hours. One day later, laboratory finding was aggravated, that is, AST 4,900 IU/L, ALT 1,790 IU/L, protein 4.24g/dl, albumin 2.48g/dl, PT 17.3 sec, INR 1.57, aPTT 33.6 sec, fibrinogen 1.71 g/L, antithrombin 60%, platelet 29,000/uL. Bilirubin increased from 1.19mg/dl to 3.34mg/dl next five days. It revealed AFLP feature. We did supportive care. After six days later, overall finding was improved. There was no hemolysis in PB smear. This report is concerned with a case of 37-year-old female at 25-week gestation with HELLP and AFLP. We guess that this case is the mixed

        Antioxidant and Tyrosinase Inhibitory Activities of Different Parts of Oriental Cherry (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea)

        Six different parts (branch, flesh, flower, fruit, leaf, and seed) of oriental cherry (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea) were extracted with ethanol or water, then total phenol content (TPC), antioxidant activity, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of the extracts were evaluated. The ethanol extracts showed higher TPC and antioxidant activity than the water extracts regardless of parts. The ethanol extracts of leaf as well as branch possessed superior TPC and antioxidant activity. The highest tyrosinase inhibitory activity was found in ethanol extract of leaf. There was no dramatic difference of tyrosinase inhibitory activities according to parts of cherry. The results suggest that leaf and branch of oriental cherry could be a candidate for antioxidant and anti-whitening materials in food or cosmetic industries.

        항 TNF 차단제로 치료한 고령에서 발생한 강직성척추염 증례

        Ankylosing spondylitis is a disease that shows a young age of onset (less than 40 years old), inflammatory back pain, sacroiliitis and a strong association with HLA-B27. Yet some recently reported cases have presented with a late age of onset (more than 55 years old), atypical clinical presentations and a low response to NSAIDs, and this has also been named late onset spondyloarthropathy (LOSPA). As compared with early onset spondyloarthropathy (EOSPA), the LOSPA patients more frequently suffer with combined peripheral arthritis and inflammatory systemic symptoms and a high ESR and CRP level, but they lack the typical axial symptoms. Yet there have been few reports about late onset ankylosing spondylitis (LOAS). The previous cases of LOSPA and LOAS were managed with NSAIDs, steroids, methotrexate and sulfasalazine, but none were managed with TNF antagonists. LOAS is rare and difficult for management because of the patients` older age and the lack of experiences with this malady, so we report here on the four cases of LOAS that were successfully treated by TNF antagonists.
