The seropositivity of measles antibodies among 261 autologous stem cell transplant recipients (ASCTs) in Korea, assessed approximately 1–2 years after transplant (median, 11 months; interquartile range, 9–14), was significantly lower than age- and sex-matched control healthcare workers (83.1% [217/261] vs. 90.3% [539/597], P = 0.002). The findings underscore the vulnerability of adult ASCT recipients to measles. Clinicians should prioritize testing for measles IgG after ASCT and consider vaccination for ASCT recipients who remain seronegative 2 years after ASCT.

A program to design a small capacity wind turbine blade is proposed in this study. The program is based on a matlab GUI environment and designed to perform blade design based on the blade element momentum theory. The program is different from other simulation tools available in a point that it can analyze the side-furling power regulation mechanism and also has an algorithm to find out optimal torque schedule above the rated wind speed region. The side-furling power regulation is used for small-capacity horizontal axis wind turbines because they cannot use active pitch control due to high cost which is commonly used for large-capacity wind turbine. Also, the torque schedule above the rated wind speed region should be different from that of the large capacity wind turbines because active pitching is not used. The program developed in this study was validated with the results with FAST which is the only program that can analyze the performance of side-furled wind turbines. For the validation a commercial 10 kW wind turbine data which is available in the literature was used. From the validation, it was found that the performance prediction from the proposed simple program is close to those from FAST. It was also found that the optimal torque scheduling from the proposed program was found to increase the turbine power substantially. Further experimental validation will be performed as a future work.

The aim of this study was to provide basic guidelines for conservation and management of endangered plants in the national parks of Korea. Pedicularis hallaisanensis Hurus (Scrophulariaceae) is considered a second-class endangered species by Korean government and it is listed as a EN (Endangered) species in Red Data Book of Korea. We analyzed ecological conditions of P.hallaisanensis habitats based on vegetation properties and soil characteristics. This species which is known to inhabit in sub-alpine grassland of Korea and its population was located at an elevation of 1,374m to 1,916m. In the study sites, soil organic matter, total nitrogen, soil moisture, available phosphate, exchangeable potassium, exchangeable calcium, exchangeable magnesium, exchangeable sodium, cation exchange capacity and soil pH were 2.55-22.48%, 0.10-0.71%, 17.20-57.57%, 1.98-7.77ppm, 0.05– 0.22cmol+/kg, 0.78-18.21cmol+/kg, 0.25-0.76cmol+/kg, 0.08-0.13cmol+/kg, 5.35-26.48cmol+/kg and 5.69-7.55 respectively. Additionally, the genetic variation and structure of three populations were assessed using microsatellite markers.The genetic diversity of P.hallaisanensis among populations was the highest in Mt. Gayasan. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) apportioned among population and within population variations, showing more genetic variance (52%) occurred in within population, and 48% variation among populations. Lastly, we developed predicted distribution model based on climate and topographic factors by applying SDMs (Species Distribution Models). Consequently, current status of P. hallaisanensis habitats were very fragile and vulnerable with the pressure of the vegetation and the climate change constantly threatening the species’ survival. Therefore, it is essential to establish in situ conservation strategies for protecting natural habitats and to require exploring potential and alternative habitats for reintroduction.

Recently, higher speeds have been promoted in old overhead-lines. For high-speed operation in electric rail ways, increasing contact loss of the pantograph is one of the most important subjects. The contact loss causes power interruption and increases wear of contact strips and contact wires. In order to investigate the causes of contact loss and to work out effective improvement methods, theoretical analyses, experiments have been carried out. First of all, the wave propagating velocity (phase velocity) and characteristics of contact wire are one of the important indices for the current collecting performance. In this paper, mathematical formula are derived for the prediction of the traveling wave velocity. The measured values in the experiment agree well with the theoretical predictions.

Our study analyzed 95 solid organ transplant (SOT) and 78 hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients with prior coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Patients who underwent transplantation within 30 days of COVID-19 infection comprised the early group, and those who underwent transplantation post-30 days of COVID-19 infection comprised the delayed group. In the early transplantation group, no patient, whether undergoing SOT and HSCT, experienced COVID-19-associated complications. In the delayed transplantation group, one patient each from SOT and HSCT experienced COVID-19-associated complications. Additionally, among early SOT and HSCT recipients, two and six patients underwent transplantation within seven days of COVID-19 diagnosis, respectively. However, no significant differences were observed in the clinical outcomes of these patients compared to those in other patients. Early transplantation following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection can be performed without increased risk of COVID-19-associated complications. Therefore, transplantation needs not be delayed by COVID-19 infection.

This study identifies the major coupling path by examining the variation of the coupled acoustic modal frequencies and modes. A 1/2-size acryl compartment model is designed and manufactured for the measurement and analysis of coupled acoustic modes. Due to acoustic coupling, a new acoustic mode appears in a low frequency range. This coupling affects only longitudinal acoustic modes of compartment. Experimental result shows that the package tray holes contribute to the coupling much more than the back seat and hole size is an important design factor to control low frequency acoustic modes in the coupled system.

Background: The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the post-acute sequelae of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection (PASC) are not well understood. Our study aimed to investigate various aspects of theses mechanisms, including viral persistence, immunological responses, and laboratory parameters in patients with and without PASC. Methods: We prospectively enrolled adults aged ≥ 18 years diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) between August 2022 and July 2023. Blood samples were collected at three time-points: within one month of diagnosis (acute phase) and at 1 month, and 3 months post-diagnosis. Following a recent well-designed definition of PASC, PASC patients were defined as those with a questionnaire-based PASC score ≥ 12 persisting for at least 4 weeks after the initial COVID-19 diagnosis. Results: Of 57 eligible COVID-19 patients, 29 (51%) had PASC, and 28 (49%) did not. The PASC group had significantly higher nucleocapsid protein (NP) antigenemia 3 months after COVID-19 diagnosis (P = 0.022). Furthermore, several cytokines, including IL-2, IL-17A, VEGF, RANTES, sCD40L, IP-10, I-TAC, and granzyme A, were markedly elevated in the PASC group 1 and/or 3 month(s) after COVID-19 diagnosis. In contrast, the median values of several serological markers, including thyroid markers, autoimmune indicators, and stress-related hormones, were within the normal range. Conclusion: Levels of NP antigen and of various cytokines involved in immune responses become significantly elevated over time after COVID-19 diagnosis in PASC patients compared to non-PASC patients. This suggests that PASC is associated with prolonged immune dysregulation resulting from heightened antigenic stimulation.
