Generally farmers cultivate 2 or 3 crops in a year, In some cases more than 10 crops are culti-vated in a year by a farmer, These crop numbers and varieties also might be changed depending on the farmer's income based on the crop. Therefore, farmers have diHiculty in configurating the recommended for-tilizer rate for each crop. This study developed a series of user-friendly EXCEL Program to help farmers and extension specialists making decision on fertilizer rate for each crop. By using the program farmers can decide appropriate fertilizer rates based on the soil test results for each field and crop, which can improve fertilizer use efficiency. Also, this program might be useful to make a farm plan by reflerting fertilizer tost required for each field.
신부전이 동반된 당뇨병 환자에서 발생된 침습성 모균증 : 수술과 Liposomal amphotericin B 및 GM-CSF 병합 요법에 의한 성공적인 치험 1예

저자들은 신부전이 동반된 당뇨병 환자에서 발생된 부비동형 모균증에 대하여 수술과 함께 liposomal amphotericin B 및 GM-CSF의 복합치료를 하여 성공적으로 치료한 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Mucormycosis (zygomycosis) primarily affects diabetic or immunocompromised patients and typically progresses rapidly, necessitating surgical excision and antifungal therapy with amphotericin B. Large doses of amphotericin B are needed for cure, but it has the risk of causing significant renal toxicity. The recent development of liposomal amphotericin B allows antifungal therapy to be administered with potentially improved efficacy and reduced nephrotoxicity. We have experienced a case of paranasal mucormycosis successfully treated with surgery, liposomal amphotericin B and GM-CSF. A 59-year-old male suffering from diabetes mellitus for 6 years was admitted with pain at left maxillary area. He was diagnosed as mucormycosis after cytologic exam on the necrotic nasal mucosa, which showed typical hyphae. He have had diabetic nephropathy with macroproteinuria and had rapidly rising serum creatinine levels with the amphotericin B treatment: creatinine levels reverted to basal level with the use of liposomal amphotericin B. Despite surgical excision and continued antifungal therapy, his infection was not effectively controlled. Therefore, GM-CSF was administered additionally to improve phagocytic activity of leukocytes. He was finally cured after receiving a combination of aggressive surgery, liposomal amphotericin B and GM-CSF. To our knowledge, this is the first detailed clinical description of the treatment of mucormycosis with liposomal amphotericin B in Korea.

Background: Skin prick tests (SPTs) has relatively a good correlation with allergen-specific IgE against house dust mites and pollens, whereas their correlation to fungi remains low. Objective: We aimed to investigate the prevalence and correlation between fungus-specific IgE and SPTs in patients with chronic lower respiratory symptoms. The difference between fungus-specific IgE-positive and -negative groups was also examined. Method: A total of 566 patients were included in this study, all of whom had either negative SPT results, positive for one or more fungi, or positive for dusts or mixed threshings. Result: SPTs and allergen-specific IgE tests for fungus were positive in 9.4% and 11.8% of the patients, respectively. The positive concordance rate for fungus-specific IgE with SPTs was 47%. The k statistic for the agreement between SPTs and fungus-specific IgE test was 0.349. In all populations negative for SPTs, total eosinophil counts, total IgE, ECP and bronchial reversibility were higher in the fungus-specific IgE-positive group. In the group that tested only positive for dusts or mixed threshings with SPTs, total IgE and bronchial hyperresponsiveness were higher in the fungus-specific IgE-positive group (P<.05). Conclusion: The rate of successful detection of fungus using SPTs was low compared to a fungus-specific IgE. Thus, fungus-specific IgE may be useful to detect fungus allergies in patients with chronic lower respiratory symptoms. (Korean J Asthma Allergy Clin Immunol 2009;29:33-38)
Cell cycle synchronization of canine ear fibroblasts for somatic cell nuclear transfer

<B>Summary</B><P>Cycle synchronization of donor cells in the G0/G1 stage is a crucial step for successful somatic cell nuclear transfer. In the present report, we evaluated the effects of contact inhibition, serum starvation and the reagents - dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), roscovitine and cycloheximide (CHX) - on synchronization of canine fibroblasts at the G0/G1 stage. Ear fibroblast cells were collected from a beagle dog, placed into culture and used for analysis at passages three to eight. The population doubling time was 36.5 h. The proportion of G0/G1 cells was significantly increased by contact inhibition (77.1%) as compared with cycling cells (70.1%); however, extending the duration of culture did not induce further synchronization. After 24 h of serum starvation, cells were effectively synchronized at G0/G1 (77.1%). Although synchronization was further increased gradually after 24 h and even showed significant difference after 72 h (82.8%) of starvation, the proportion of dead cells also significantly increased after 24 h. The percentage of cells at the G0/G1 phase was increased (as compared with controls) after 72 h treatment with DMSO (76.1%) and after 48 h treatment with CHX (73.0%) or roscovitine (72.5%). However, the rate of cell death was increased after 24 and 72 h of treatment with DMSO and CHX, respectively. Thus, we recommend the use of roscovitine for cell cycle synchronization of canine ear fibroblasts as a preparatory step for SCNT.</P>

<P>We have demonstrated a stable phosphorescent white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) using an orange emitter, Bis(5-benzoyl-2-(4-fluorophenyl)pyridinato-C,N) iridium(III)acetylacetonate [(Bz4Fppy)2Ir(III)acac] doped into a newly synthesized blue host material, 2-(carbazol-9-yl)-7-(isoquinolin-1-yl)-9,9-diethylfluorene (CzFliq). When 1 wt.% (Bz4Fppy)2Ir(III)acac was doped into emitting layer, it was realized an improved EL performance and a pure white color in the OLED. The optimum WOLED showed maximum values as a luminous efficiency of 10.14 cd/A, a power efficiency of 10.24 Im/W, a peak external quantum efficiency 4.07%, and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.34, 0.39) at 8 V.</P>
Closed-Cervix Pyometra in Young Dogs: 2 Cases

Canine pyometra generally occurs in intact female dogs of more than four years of age. However, in rarely cases, pyometra can occur in young bitches. In the present report, two cases of pyometra in thirteen and eighteen months of age were presented. In both cases, absent of vaginal discharge represented that both patients had closed-cervix pyometra and diagnosis was somewhat complicated. In complete blood count, elevated level of leukocyte with left shift was found in both cases. Serum chemistry analysis showed elevation of alkaline phosphatase in both cases. Additionally, mild elevation of aspartate transferase and total protein were also found in case. Radiographic and ultrasonographic findings show the enlargement of uterus and accumulation of fluid contents inside the uterine lumen. Ovariohysterectomy followed by antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for post-surgery medication was performed for treatment. After a week, both patients fully recovered. To reduce mortality of pyometra in young intact female dogs, radiography or ultrasonography should be indicated immediately in the bitches showing severe infectious inflammation.
비소세포폐암 세포주에서 Uteroglobin Transduction이 COX-2 및 IDO의 발현에 미치는 영향

연구배경: Uteroglobin (UG)은 폐를 비롯한 우리 몸의 대부분의 표피세포에서 생성되는 면역조절능을 가진 분비단백이다. UG의 과발현은 cyclooxygenase (COX)-2의 발현의 감소 및 암세포의 성장억제와 관련이 있다. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO)는 kynurenine pathway를 통해 tryptophan을 이화시키는 효소로서, 국소적으로 tryptopha을 고갈시키고 tryptophan 대사물을 생성함으로써 T 세포의 면역반응을 억제시키는 데 기여한다. 방법: 본 연구에서는 여러 비소세포폐암 세포주, 특히 A549에서 COX-2와 IDO의 발현양상 및 UG transduction이 COX-2 및 IDO의 발현에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 결과: A549와 H460에서 구조적으로 COX-2와 IDO가 모두 발현되었고, COX-2 및 IDO의 발현은 UG transduction에 의해 감소되었다. A549에 IFN-γ를 투여했을 때 COX-2 및 IDO의 발현이 약간 증가하였고, 이는 UG transduction 시행 후 다시 감소하였다. 그러나, A549에 UG transduction 시행하여 감소된 COX-2, IDO의 발현은 IFN-γ 투여 후에도 증가하지 않았다. A549 COX-2 sense와 A549 COX-2 anti-sense (siRNA 감염) 세포주 모두에서 COX-2의 발현여부와 상관없이 IDO가 발현되었고, UG transduction으로 인해 IDO의 발현이 감소하였다. 결론: 이러한 결과는 UG의 세포성장억제 기능이 COX-2를 통한 기전과는 독립적으로 IDO의 면역관용 기전과 관련될 가능성이 있음을 시사한다. Background: Uteroglobin (UG) is a secretary protein that has strong immunomodulatory properties, and which is synthesized in most epithelia including lung tissue. Overexpression of UG is associated with decreased expression of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and suppression of cancer cell growth. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) catalyzes tryptophan along the kynurenine pathway, and both the reduction in local tryptophan and the production of tryptophan metabolites contribute to the immunosuppressive effects of IDO. Methods: In this study, we investigated the pattern of expression of COX-2 and IDO, and the effect of UG transduction in the expression of COX-2 and IDO in several non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, especially A549. Results: Both COX-2 and IDO were constitutionally expressed in A549 and H460 cells, and was reduced by UG transduction. In A549 cells, the slightly increased expression of COX-2 and IDO with the instillation of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) was reduced by UG transduction. However, the reduced expression of COX-2 and IDO by UG transduction was not increased with IFN-γ instillation in A549 cells. In both the A549 COX-2 sense and the A549 COX-2 anti-sense small interfering RNA (siRNA)-transfected cells, IDO was expressed; expression was reduced by UG transduction, irrespective of the expression of COX-2. Conclusion: The results suggest that the anti-proliferative function of UG may be associated with the immune tolerance pathway of IDO, which is independent of the COX-2 pathway.
