We report a case of vertebral osteomyelitis with epidural abscess caused by Streptococcus constellatus. The patient was present with fever, back pain, and dyspnea for 1 week. The patient was previously healthy and did not have any predisposing factor. After evaluation, the patient was diagnosed as Streptococcus constellatus vertebral osteomyelitis. He was successfully treated with surgical debridement and antibiotic therapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of S. constellatus vertebral osteomveltis with epidural abscess to be reported in Korea.

Physical properties of wool are closely related to species of sheep, locality of production and feeding conditions. This paper describes an basic investigation of physical properties of Korean wool. Specific properties affected by crimp were also investigated. The experiment for physical properties of Korean wool was carried out by the conventional method and its for specific properties was done by load extension test. The results of those were as follows; 1. As for fineness values of wool, the quality numbers of Corriedale wool was 56's and its of Romney marsh wool was 46's-48's. 2. As for fineness, mean length, distribution of fibre length, strength and elongation of Corriedale wool were superior to those of standard wool. 3. It was found that strength per denier and elastic limit strength of both species were sligtly higher than its of standard wool 4. Uncrimping force was 1/15-1/21 of yield stress, Recovering of uncimping force and enegy in Korean wool was also significant. 5. Corriedale wool has good quality of which uncrimping force and energy would be changed by crimp. Characteristics of Corriedale wool; elasticity, softness and bulking capacity of wool itself were slightly higher than its of Romney marsh wool
무주지역에서 채취한 산삼 생육 토양미생물에 대한 동정 연구

objectives : Microorganisms were isolated from soils remaining attached to the roots of Wild Panax ginseng C.A. Mey. naturally grown in Moo-Ju area. methods : As a preliminary study for the establishment of wild ginseng radix discrimination system based on area of growth, these isolates were identified by using mainly API 20NE and API 50CHB kits and the microbial consortia were compared. From the sample of Moo-Ju area, 9 and 6 strains were isolated and identified after the incubation of agar plates at 30℃ and 37℃, respectively. results : The results showed that 2 strains of soil bacteria, Aeromonas hydrophilia, and Bacillus cereus commonly existed in the roots of wild ginseng of both 30℃ and 37℃. And that 6 strains, Pseudomonas putida, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Pseudomonas fluorescence at 30℃ and Bacillus subtilis, Empedobacter brevis, Brevi. laterosporus at 37℃, inhabited specifically in the roots of wild ginseng of Moo-Ju area. conclusion : These results suggest that comparison of microbial consortia associated with roots of wild ginseng could be used for the establishment of a naturally growing wild ginseng radix discrimination system.

Streptococcus anginosus is a normal flora found in multiple body sites and belongs to the Streptococcus milleri group, It has often been associated with pyogenic infection, such as periodontitis, endocarditis, pulmonary abscess and abdominal or cerebral abscess. Also uncommonly, it can cause osteomyelitis. A 42-year-o1d man was admitted due to gastric ulcer perforation. At 12th hospital day, left humeral osteomyelitis and soft tissue abscess developed, Streptococcus anginosus grew in blood culture, He was treated with intravenous penicillin and surgical debridement of the necrotic tissue which lead to a satisfactory result. We report a rare case of Streptococcus anginosus-induced humeral osteomyelitis and soft tissue abscess.

<P>Atmospheric plasma (AP) treatment was carried out on TiO2 nanorods (NRs) that were hydrothermally grown on F-doped SnO2 (FTO)/glass. The effects of AP treatment on the surface of the TiO2 NRs were investigated, where the treatment involved the use of the reactive gases H2, N2, and O2. The surface energy of AP-treated TiO2 NRs was about 1.5 times higher than that of untreated TiO2 NRs (364.3 mJ/m2). After AP treatment, the increase of the peak area ratios of the Ti2O3 and TiO2 peaks in the XPS spectra resulted in a decrease in the number of oxygen vacancies in the TiO2 NRs. The efficiency of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) based on the N2-plasma-treated TiO2 NRs, which was approximately 1.11%, was about 79% higher than that of a DSSC based on the untreated TiO2 NRs.</P>
A Modified Big Bang-Big Crunch Algorithm for Structural Topology Optimization

The purpose of this study is to develop a topology optimization scheme based on big bang–big crunch (BB–BC) algorithm, inspired from the evolution of the universe called big bang and big crunch theory. In order to apply the BB–BC algorithm to topology optimization for static and dynamic stiffness problems, the parameters of the algorithm were transformed to those of topology optimization scheme. In addition, some parameters such as big bang (BB) range, BB search, population and non-exchange limit were newly introduced to topology optimization scheme. Also, a parametric study for the parameters involved in the topology optimization scheme was performed to reduce the number of parameters, and find the appropriate ranges for topology optimization. Some examples were provided to examine the effectiveness of the developed topology optimization scheme for both static and dynamic stiffness problems throughout comparing with other metaheuristic topology optimization algorithms and the BESO (bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization) method. It was verified that the suggested algorithm shows superior to the compared typical metaheuristic topology optimization algorithms in the viewpoints of stability, robustness, accuracy and the convergence rate.
