To reduce the death due to infection in leukemic patients, the pattern of infection, the factors affecting it, the site of infection and the spectrum of infecting organisms were evaluated retrospectively in 90 patients with various types of leukemia in the period from Jan. 1981 to Jun. 1984 at the St. Mary's hospital. The results were as follows. 1) Among the 90 patients, 29 were with ALL and the rest were with AML. Infection was the leading cause of death, even though bleeding had been the leading cause of death before the maintenance of platelet. 2) Fever was most frequently happened before and during the induction of remission and most of the fever was happened during the period of granulocyte count less than 500/㎣. 3) Upper and lower respiratory tract infection was the most frequent and as the causative organism, gram negative organism was shown in 39.4%, positive organism in 34.2%, candida in 21.1% and aspergillus in 7.9%. Pseudomonaswas the most frequent in gran negatives and Staphylococcus epidermidis was in gram positives. Rapid diagnosis, powerful treatment and the prevention of endogenous and exogenous infection are thought to be able to reduce the death due to infection in leukemic patients.

Induction Chemotherapy followed by Radiotherapy in Advanced Head and Neck Cancer

Untreated patients with head and neck cancer without distant metastasis underwent the induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Patient's age was ranged 34-70 (median 54); 7 were Stage Ⅲ, 19 Stage Ⅳ. Chemotherapy consisted of 3 cycles of cisplatin 100 mg/m^2 on day 1, and f-fluorouracil 1,000 mg/m^2/day for 5 days, every 3 or 4 weeks. Of 26 chemotherapy patients, 22 were evaluable ; complete response was 32% (7/22) and partial response 50% (11/22). Seventeen Patients completed radiotherapy following chemotherapy; complete response was 58.8% (10/17) and partial response 23.5% (4/17), The toxicities were tolerable. The induction chemotherapy using cisplatin and f-fluorouracil followed by radiotherapy was safe and effective.

If you take LMP and local information this method into consideration at the same time, and you give weight on neither one side, buses on a borderline can move on arbitrary. For solving this problem, in this paper will propose a clustering method to have applied new concept called 'electric distance'.

At high combustion pressure, oxidizer and fuel are supercritical or transcritical. Generalized equation of state can predict thermodynamic properties well from high to low compressibility. In this study, by using generalized equation of state, real steady flamelet code is developed, which can calculate flamelet considering real fluid effect.

Autoimmune thyroid diseases, including Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, have been observed to occur in families. By population and family data on autoimmune thyroid disease, one or more disease susceptibility genes are known to be linked to the HLA-D region. Although the associations with the HLA-DR antigens appear to be strongest among those thus far reported, there are a variety of candidate genes in the HLA-D region that might influence susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid disease, including the loci that encode the DQ and DP molecules. The usefulness of non-radioactive oligonucleotide probes and possible genetic effects of HLA-DQA1 on the development of autoimmune thyroid disease were studied by analysis of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and allele-specific oligonucleotide (ASO) probes of HLA- DQA1 directly labeled with horseradish-peroxidase at 5’ end. Peripheral lymphocyte DNA was obstained from 22 Korean patients with Graves’ disease, 21 patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and 31 normal controls. Exon 2 of DQ chain gene was amplified by PCR procedure, hybridized to HLA-DQAI ASO probes. The frequency of allele Hybridizing to RH 83 probe which has common base sequence of DQA1 ^*0101, ^*0102 and ^*0103 was high (it was previously known as AI allele of HLA-DQ) and DQA1 ^*0201 was low in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease but it was not statistically significant. This result suggests that susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid disease is not related to HLA-DQA1 alleles in Korean patients with autoimmune thyroid disease and enhanced chemiluminescence method is safe, rapid and efficient one for signal detection.

아구창 치료에 있어 Clotrimazole ( Troches ) 과 Ketoconazole 의 효과

N/A A randomized study was performed to compare the effect of clotrimazole troches and ketoconazole in the treatment of oral moniliasis. Eight patients who were treated with clotrimazole troches (10 mg 5 times a day for fourteen days) showed a resolution of symptoms and signs in 1.4 days after treatment initially and 3.0 days after treatment completely. In six cases with ketoconazole therapy (400 mg once a day p.o. for fourteen days), initial and complete clinical response were observed in 1.7 days and 5.0 days after treatment. No side effect was found in patients with clotrimazole troches group, while mild degree of nausea, anorexia and epigastric discomfort were developed in patients with ketoconazole group. These findings suggest clotrimazole troche is as effective as ketoconazole for oral moniliasis and more tolerable than latter.
