한반도 고전문학의 대표작 <춘향전>은 세계 속에 널리 알려진 지명도가 높은 작품의 하나이다. <춘향전>은 작품 그 자체의 독특한 특성과 1950년대 중국과 북한 간의 독특한 사회 역사적 환경으로 인하여 소설, 희곡 등 장르로 번역 개편 되여 광범위하게 수용 전파되면서 독특한 양상을 보여주었다. 1950년대 중국에서의 창극 <춘향전>과 소설 <춘향전>의 번역 전파는 당시 중국과 북한의 국민들간의 친선적 문화 공감대를 형성하는데 일조하였을 뿐만 아니라 중한 문학교류사의 중요한 한 페이지를 장식하였다.

<B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>Large-area, few-layer graphene is grown on a poly-nickel substrate using optimized CVD conditions. High temperature, short growth time, and an optimal gas mixing ratio (C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>2</SUB>/H<SUB>2</SUB> = 2/45) are found to be necessary to synthesize highly crystalline few-layer grapheme, which may find applications in electronic devices. <P>Abstract</P><P>A new QTL for spikelets per panicle (SPP) was detected on the long arm of chromosome 7 in an F<SUB>2</SUB> population derived from a cross between the <I>japonica</I> cultivar Hwaseongbyeo and WH29001. WH29001, an advanced backcross line was developed by introgressing chromosomal segments from an accession of <I>O</I>.<I> minuta</I> (2n = 48, BBCC, Acc. no. 101141) into the <I>O. sativa</I> subsp. <I>japonica</I> cv. Hwaseongbyeo. The <I>O. minuta</I> allele increased SPP in the Hwaseongbyeo background despite the fact that <I>O. minuta</I> was the small panicle parent. Using F<SUB>3</SUB> and F<SUB>4</SUB> progenies, <I>spp7</I> was validated and mapped to a 2.3 Mb region in the interval between the SSR markers RM445 and RM21615 based on the japonica genome sequence. A yield trial using F<SUB>4</SUB> lines indicated that the lines carrying an <I>O. minuta</I> chromosome segment across the entire <I>spp7</I> target region out-yielded its sister lines containing Hwaseongbyeo chromosome in the target region and Hwaseongbyeo by 14.3% and 15.9%, respectively. Increase in SPP in WH29001 was mainly because of the increase in primary branches per panicle. The locus, <I>spp7</I> is of particular interest because of its independence from undesirable height and flowering time. SSR markers tightly linked to the <I>spp7</I> will facilitate cloning of the gene underlying this QTL as well as marker-assisted selection for variation in SPP in an applied breeding program.</P>

The final properties of cured epoxy resins are affected by the type of epoxy resin, curing agent, and curing process. This paper aims to review the synthesis, curing process, and application of epoxy resins.
Physciosporin suppresses the proliferation, motility and tumourigenesis of colorectal cancer cells

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Lichens, which represent symbiotic associations of fungi and algae, are potential sources of numerous natural products. Physciosporin (PHY) is a potent secondary metabolite found in lichens and was recently reported to inhibit the motility of lung cancer cells via novel mechanisms.</P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The present study investigated the anticancer potential of PHY on colorectal cancer (CRC) cells.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>PHY was isolated from lichen extract by preparative TLC. The effect of PHY on cell viability, motility and tumourigenicity was elucidated by MTT assay, hoechst staining, flow cytometric analysis, transwell invasion and migration assay, soft agar colony formation assay, Western blotting, qRT-PCR and PCR array <I>in vitro</I> as well as tumorigenicity study <I>in vivo</I>.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>PHY decreased the viability of various CRC cell lines (Caco2, CT26, DLD1, HCT116 and SW620). Moreover, PHY elicited cytotoxic effects by inducing apoptosis at toxic concentrations. At non-toxic concentrations, PHY dose-dependently suppressed the invasion, migration and colony formation of CRC cells. PHY inhibited the motility of CRC cells by suppressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition and downregulating actin-based motility markers. In addition, PHY downregulated β-catenin and its downstream target genes cyclin-D1 and c-Myc. Moreover, PHY modulated KAI1 C-terminal-interacting tetraspanin and KAI1 expression, and downregulated the downstream transcription factors c-jun and c-fos. Finally, PHY administration showed considerable bioavailability and effectively decreased the growth of CRC xenografts in mice without causing toxicity.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>PHY suppresses the growth and motility of CRC cells via novel mechanisms.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Functional cortical neurons and astrocytes from human pluripotent stem cells in 3D culture

The human cerebral cortex develops through an elaborate succession of cellular events that, when disrupted, can lead to neuropsychiatric disease. The ability to reprogram somatic cells into pluripotent cells that can be differentiated in vitro provides a unique opportunity to study normal and abnormal corticogenesis. Here, we present a simple and reproducible 3D culture approach for generating a laminated cerebral cortex–like structure, named human cortical spheroids (hCSs), from pluripotent stem cells. hCSs contain neurons from both deep and superficial cortical layers and map transcriptionally to in vivo fetal development. These neurons are electrophysiologically mature, display spontaneous activity, are surrounded by nonreactive astrocytes and form functional synapses. Experiments in acute hCS slices demonstrate that cortical neurons participate in network activity and produce complex synaptic events. These 3D cultures should allow a detailed interrogation of human cortical development, function and disease, and may prove a versatile platform for generating other neuronal and glial subtypes in vitro.

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Drought conditions limit agricultural production by preventing crops from reaching their genetically predetermined maximum yields. Here, we present the results of field evaluations of rice overexpressing <I>OsNAC9,</I> a member of the rice NAC domain family. Root‐specific (<I>RCc3</I>) and constitutive (<I>GOS2</I>) promoters were used to overexpress <I>OsNAC9</I> and produced the transgenic <I>RCc3:OsNAC9</I> and <I>GOS2:OsNAC9</I> plants. Field evaluations over two cultivating seasons showed that grain yields of the <I>RCc3:OsNAC9</I> and the <I>GOS2:OsNAC9</I> plants were increased by 13%–18% and 13%–32% under normal conditions, respectively. Under drought conditions, <I>RCc3:OsNAC9</I> plants showed an increased grain yield of 28%–72%, whilst the <I>GOS2:OsNAC9</I> plants remained unchanged. Both transgenic lines exhibited altered root architecture involving an enlarged stele and aerenchyma. The aerenchyma of <I>RCc3:OsNAC9</I> roots was enlarged to a greater extent than those of <I>GOS2:OsNAC9</I> and non‐transgenic (NT) roots, suggesting the importance of this phenotype for enhanced drought resistance. Microarray experiments identified 40 up‐regulated genes by more than threefold (<I>P </I><<I> </I>0.01) in the roots of both transgenic lines. These included <I>9‐cis‐epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase</I>, an ABA biosynthesis gene, <I>calcium‐transporting ATPase</I>, a component of the Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> signalling pathway involved in cortical cell death and aerenchyma formation, <I>cinnamoyl CoA reductase 1</I>, a gene involved in lignin biosynthesis, and <I>wall‐associated kinases¸</I> genes involved in cell elongation and morphogenesis. Interestingly, <I>O‐methyltransferase</I>, a gene necessary for barrier formation, was specifically up‐regulated only in the <I>RCc3:OsNAC9</I> roots. Such up‐regulated genes that are commonly and specifically up‐regulated in <I>OsNAC9</I> transgenic roots may account for the altered root architecture conferring increased drought resistance phenotype.</P>

<P>Direct integration of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNTs) patterns on a graphene layer combined with a liquid crystal cell can be utilized as an optical array. The hybrid structures have high transparency and conductivity and, as reported by Sun IL Kim, Jong Min Kim, Young Hee Lee, and co‐workers, clear diffraction patterns are obtained by modulating an external electric field. </P>

The values of crystalline-electric-field parameters A㎚ for RFe₁₁TiHx (R=Tb,Ho) (x=0,1) are obtained by fitting calculations to the magnetization curves along the crystal axes at 4.2 K and higher temperatures. The insertion of H element in RFe₁₁Ti significantly affects CEF parameters A㎚. By using exchange field 2μ_BHex derived by inelastic neutron scattering and fitted A㎚, the calculations reproduce the experimental curves well.
