        열공형과 비열공형 피질하 혈관성 치매에서 위험인자의 차이에 관한 비교 연구

        Backgrounds and Objectives: Vascular dementia is a group of dementing disoders arising from various stroke syndrome. Among these. subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is regarded as a relatively distinct clinical entity. However, MRI patterns of SIVD are not homogenous. In some patients, lacunes are dominant, and in others, subcortical white matter changes are. This study was designed to compare risk factor profiles between SIVD with and without multiple lacunes. Methods: We divided 47 subjects (22 males, mean age. 68 years) recruited from VADAPET (Multicenter Trial For Evaluation Of The Changes In the PET Images Of Subcortical Vascular Dementia Patient) study into two groups one with more than 5 lacunes in deep gray matter (lacune group) and the other with 5 or less(non-lacune group) Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of two groups were compared. Results: Nineteen of 47 patients (40%) belonged to the lacune group. The lacune and non-lacune groups d d not differ in the following variables: age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia heart disease, history of stroke or TIA, history of trauma or major surgery, family history of hypertension stroke, or dementia, age at diagnosis of dementia, body mass index, white blood cell count, ESR, CRP, fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol creatinine, proteinuria, glucosuria, and microhematuria. However, male sex, smoking alcohol. hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were possibly associated more with lacune group SIVD than with non-lacune group (p<0 1) Multivariate analyses revealed that smoking, hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of SIVD with multiple lacunes Conclusion: Our study suggests that SIVD with multiple lacunes may be significantly different in smoking habits hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol from SIVD without multiple lacunes.

        The necessity of the internet-aided instruction, and the advantages and restrictions of it were widely investigated as theoretical background, and the general principle of designing the instruction, model of procedure in science class, practical design of the internet-aided instruction procedure of it's development and effective approach of web design. On the basis of the above, experiment contents of 10 units in highschool common science (department of chemistry)were reconstructed, and deployment plan for teaching-learning guidance papers for experiments, reports of experiments, individualized problem for evaluation, self-learning references, guidance papers for teaching, figure files for forming concepts and principles were made. Experimental unit of chemical reaction speed which is difficult for the first grade highschool students is established, and it is made a form of CD-ROM title with animation and presentation techniques. As a result, Learning environment which raised learner's motivation was presented. Further more, based on web instruction model and instruction design principle for learning with internet, teaching-learning home page with HTML was made.

        Development of NK cell expansion methods using feeder cells from human myelogenous leukemia cell line

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Natural killer (NK) cells constantly survey surrounding tissues and remove newly generated cancer cells, independent of cancer antigen recognition. Although there have been a number of attempts to apply NK cells for cancer therapy, clinical application has been somewhat limited because of the difficulty in preparing a sufficient number of NK cells. Therefore, <I>ex vivo</I> NK cell expansion is one of the important steps for developing NK cell therapeutics.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>CD3<SUP>+</SUP> depleted lymphocytes were cocultured with IL-2 and with feeder cells (peripheral blood mononuclear cells [PBMCs], K562, and Jurkat) for 15 days. Expanded NK cells were tested for cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>We compared feeder activities of three different cells-PBMC, K562, and Jurkat. K562 expanded NK cells by almost 20 fold and also showed powerful cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. K562-NK cells remarkably expressed the NK cell activation receptors, NKG2D, and DNAM-1. K562-NK cells exhibited more than two-fold production of cytotoxic granules compared with Jurkat-NK cells, producing more perforin and granzyme B than naïve NK cells.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Our findings suggest that K562 are more efficient feeder cells than Jurkat or PBMCs. K562 feeder cells expanded NK cells by almost 20 fold and showed powerful cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. We herein propose an intriguing approach for a design of NK cell expansion.</P>

        Breeding of new silkworm variety, ‘Chilseongjam’ with peculiar laval mark

        A new silkworm variety ‘Chilseongjam’ was bred for special purpose as educational learning and festivals. Their breeding history and major characteristics are as follows. The Chilseongjam variety was selected and succeeded from the F1 of Galwon x C721 in 2009 autumn. They are showing 94% (spring & autumn) of high practical hatching ratio. The larval period of Chilseongjam (spring: 23 d, autumn: 24 d 3 h) was shorter than that of Daebakjam (spring: 24 d, autumn: 25 d 23 h). In the pupation percentage, Chilseongjam (spring: 96.6%, autumn: 86.1%) is similar to Daebakjam Daebakjam (spring: 96.3%) in spring, but autumn is lower than Daebakjam (autumn: 94.9%). Single cocoon weight (spring: 1.57 g, autumn: 1.29 g) and Cocoon yield (spring: 14.2 kg, autumn: 11.1 kg) were lower than those of Daebakjam (spring: 2.76 g, 25.4 kg, autumn: 2.19g, 20.2 kg), respectively. The new silkworm variety, Chilseongjam showed higher pupation rate than control variety. This variety can be used as a educational learning and festivals.

      • Prediction of coronary thin-cap fibroatheroma by intravascular ultrasound-based machine learning

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background and aims</B></P> <P>Although grayscale intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is commonly used for assessing coronary lesion morphology and optimizing stent implantation, detection of vulnerable plaques by IVUS remains challenging. We aimed to develop machine learning (ML) models for predicting optical coherence tomography-derived thin-cap fibroatheromas (OCT-TCFAs).</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>In 517 patients with angina, 414 and 103 coronary lesions were randomized into training <I>vs.</I> test sets. Each of the IVUS-OCT co-registered frames (including 32,807 for training and 8101 for test) was labeled according to the presence <I>vs.</I> absence of OCT-TCFA. Among 1449 computed IVUS features based on two-dimensional geometry and texture, 17 features were finally selected and used in supervised ML with artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), and naïve Bayes.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>IVUS sections with (<I>vs.</I> without) OCT-TCFA showed a larger plaque burden, and a smaller and eccentric lumen. TCFA-containing sections were characterized by increased ratios of variance, entropy, and kurtosis; reduced ratio of homogeneity within the superficial to the deeper plaque; and decreased smoothness within the fibrous cap. In addition, OCT-TCFA was associated with low ratios of gamma-beta, Nakagami-μ and Nakagami-ω, and a high ratio of Rayleigh-b within the superficial to the deeper region. With a 5-fold cross-validation, the averaged accuracies were 81 ± 5% for ANN (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.80 ± 0.08), 77 ± 4% for SVM (AUC = 0.74 ± 0.05), and 78 ± 2% for naïve Bayes (AUC = 0.77 ± 0.04) for predicting OCT-TCFA. In the test set, ANN and naïve Bayes showed the overall accuracies of >80%.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Supervised ML algorithms with computed IVUS features predicted the presence of OCT-TCFA.         해외취업 신체검사자의 매독감염 실태

        Serologic tests for syphilis, including the qualitative and quantitative VDRL test and TPHA test, were carried out on 18, 151 healthy young men, who took a medical check-up for the overseas employment at Kyunghee University Hospital from April, 1978 to February, 1979. The syphilitics who revealed TPHA reactive, were given a questionare that dealt with three items. The results are summarized as follows. 1) The reactive rate of VDRL test was 3. 1% among 18, 151 healthy young men, 2) The biologic false positive rate of VDRL test was 7. 7% among the 520 men in whom TPHA test was carried out, using TPHA as standard. 3) The reactive rate of TPHA test was 2. 7% among 18, 109 men. On 42 men the TPHA test was not carried out. 4) With regard to the VDRL quantitative test, the reactive rate of the group with a titration of 1: 4 or lower was 85,2% out of 480 syphilitics. 5) In 480 syphilitics, 45. 8% (220) had a history of venereal 72.3%(347) had no general knowledge of syphilis, and 86. 2% (414) was unaware of his syphilitic infection.

        Characterizations of Modified Silica Nanoparticles(II) ; Preparation and Application of Silica Nanoparticles as a Environmentally Filler

        A chemical process involves polymerization within microspheres, whereas a physical process involves the dispersion of polymer in a nonsolvent. Nano-sized monodisperse microspheres are usually prepared by chemical processes such as water-based emulsions, seed suspension polymerization, nonaqueous dispersion polymerization, and precipitation polymerizations. Polymerization was performed in a four-necked, separate-type flask equipped with a stirrer, a condenser, a nitrogen inlet, and a rubber stopper for adding the initiator with a syringe. Nitrogen was bubbled through the mixture of reagents for 1 hr. before elevating the temperature. Functional silane (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) was used for the modification of silica nanoparticles and the self-assembled monolayers obtained were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), laser scattering system (LSS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental analysis (EA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, polymer microspheres were polymerized by radical polymerization of ${\gamma}$-mercaptopropyl modified silica nanoparticles (MPSN) and acrylamide monomer via precipitation polymerization; then, their characteristics were investigated. From the elemental analysis results, it can be concluded that the conversion rate of acrylamide monomer was 93% and that polyacrylamide grafted to MPSN nanospheres via the radical precipitation polymerization with AAm in ethanol solvent. The microspheres were successfully polymerized by the 'graft from' method.
