      • Impact of Interferon-Based Treatment on Quality of Life and Work Related Productivity from the Korean Cohort in the MOSAIC Study

        Aims: Chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection increases the risk for progressive liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and negatively impacts the patient’s quality of life. HCV treatment is evolving with direct acting antivirals but IFN based therapy has been the standard of care for many years and remains available in some countries. The MOSAIC study aims to characterize patients with chronic HCV infection and assess the impact of IFN-containing treatment on health-related quality of life, work related productivity and health care utilization. Methods: MOSAIC is an international prospective multicenter observational study that has been conducted in 20 countries. Consecutive patients with chronic HCV infection were enrolled and those who initiated an IFN based regimen were prospectively followed for 48 weeks. We report results from the Korean cohort Results: 100 patients were enrolled: 86 were treatment naïve and 14 were treatment experienced. 33 patients initiated an IFN based regimen: 6 patients started IFN + RBV, 26 patients started Peg-IFN + RBV, none started Peg-IFN + RBV + DAA and 1 patient received other treatment. Among the treated cohort, demographic and disease characteristics were the following: the mean age was 54.5 years; 14 patients were male. 14 had minimal or no fibrosis, 2 portal fibrosis, 3 bridging fibrosis and 6 patients suffered from cirrhosis. HCV Genotype distribution was as follows: genotype 1: 11; genotype 2: 19 and genotype 3: 3. Table 1 describes the results at baseline and changes over 4, 12 and 48 weeks and end-of-treatment (EOT) for the quality of life and work productivity outcome measures (EQ-5D-5L, HCV-PRO and WPAI). Conclusions: Results from the Korean cohort of the MOSAIC study show a moderate trend for deterioration of health-related quality of life and work productivity associated with IFN based treatment for patients with chronic HCV infection during treatment period.         Productivity Loss of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients according to the Their Stages of the Disease Activity Score

        Objective. Productivity loss was compared by 3-stage of disease activity and associations between higher disease activity and high productivity loss were identified. Methods. Data were extracted from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Patient-reported Outcomes Research, which enrolled 2,000 RA patients (>20-year) on disease-modifying-antirheumatic-drugs (DMARDs) (≥ 6-month) from December 2012 to June 2013. This included 1,457 RA patients with the disease activity score (DAS-28-ESR) in their medical charts. Productivity loss in time and indirect cost was estimated using The World Health Organization Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ). Baseline characteristics and productivity loss outcomes were compared according to DAS-28-ESR groups. Results. 84.4% were females, 54.2% had low DAS-28-ESR (<3.2), and 38.2% and 7.6% had moderate (3.2∼5.1) and high DAS-28-ESR (>5.1). Patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR had higher lost productivity time (LPT) and monthly costs of LPT than those with low DAS-28-ESR (time in hours: 110.0±58.4 vs. 132.4±57.2 vs. 71.5±52.0, p<0.0001; monthly costs of LPT in 1,000 Korean won: 1,097±607 vs. 1,302±554 vs. 741±531, p<0.0001). Multiple regression analyses revealed significant associations with high LPT in high (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=3.87, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.18∼6.87) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.88, 95% CI: 1.41∼2.52) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. In addition, positive associations with high monthly costs of LPT were observed in high (adjusted OR=3.45, 95% CI: 1.98∼5.99) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.93, 95% CI: 1.43∼2.54) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. Conclusion. Timely therapeutic strategies should be taken into consideration given that the RA patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR showed strong associations with high productivity loss for effective management of RA.         <P>We demonstrate subwavelength imaging in the visible range by using a metal coated carbon nanotube forest. Under 532 nm illumination, a 160 nm separated double slit is resolved. This corresponds to the resolution of 0.3 wavelength. By controlling the growing conditions and with the help of the microtoming technique, we made a dense carbon nanotube forest layer of 400 nm thickness. The metal coated carbon nanotube forest, acting as a wire medium nanolens, delivers imaging information including details in the evanescent fields near the objects.</P>

        Electrical and structural properties of antimony-doped p-type ZnO nanorods with self-corrugated surfaces

        <P>We report on p-type conductivity in antimony (Sb)-doped ZnO (ZnO:Sb) nanorods which have self-corrugated surfaces. The p-ZnO:Sb/n-ZnO nanorod diode shows good rectification characteristics, confirming that a p–n homojunction is formed in the ZnO nanorod diode. The low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the ZnO:Sb nanorods reveal that the p-type conductivity in p-ZnO:Sb is related to the Sb<SUB>Zn</SUB>–2V<SUB>Zn</SUB> complex acceptors. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of the ZnO:Sb nanorods also shows that the p-type conductivity is attributed to the Sb<SUB>Zn</SUB>–2V<SUB>Zn</SUB> complex acceptors which can be easily formed near the self-corrugated surface regions of ZnO:Sb nanorods. These results suggest that the Sb<SUB>Zn</SUB>–2V<SUB>Zn</SUB> complex acceptors are mainly responsible for the p-type conductivity in ZnO:Sb nanorods which have corrugated surfaces. </P>

        The Maize with Multiple Ears and Tillers (MET) III. Developmental Habit and Morphology of the Tillers

        분얼하는 옥수수에서 분얼의 발생시기 발생부위, 개체당분얼수, 분얼각, 근계, 크기등에 대해 조사 보고된 바가 없기에 이들 특성을 알기 위해 국내 재래종에서 순계분리한 자식계통 및 교잡종을 중심으로 1987년과 2988년에 포장조사한 것을 다음과 같이 요약한다. 1. 일차분 시기는 충남의 유성에서 5월 11일경 파종시 주경의 제일본엽이 지하에 출현후 18일 내지 20일이었고, 제일차분얼은 일차분얼이 있은 후 4~5일 후였다. 자식계통들 사이와 교잡종들 사이에는 분얼의 발생시기에 큰 차이가 없었고 교잡종 자식계통보다 2일 정도 빨랐다. 2. 분얼들의 발생부위는 거의 모든 시험계통들이 주경의 지하절에서 였다.(예외 : Tlr 계통) 3. 개체당 분얼수는 재식밀도에 관계없이 계통 및 교잡종에 따라 달랐다. IK나 IRI같은 자식계토은 개체당 분얼수가 2~3개로 정해졌으나 왜성과 같은 계통은 5내지 10개가 되기도 하였다. (IK$\times$IRI)F$_1$은 3~4개였다. 4. 주경과 분얼이 가지는 분얼각도 유전적 특성으로 대략 3개로 구분할 수 있었다. 1군은 분얼각이 없거나 매우 적은 것, 2군은 분얼각이 45$^{\circ}$정도 되는 것, 3군은 분얼각이 45$^{\circ}$이하되는 것들이다. 5. 분얼의 크기(길이, 직경)는 유효경 여부를 결정하는데 중요한데 대부분 재래종 계통이나 이들로 만들어진 교잡종은 60cm$\times$30cm의 재식밀도하에서 유효경 비율이 90% 이상되었다. 6. 분얼의 크기(길이, 직경)는 유효 경 여부를 결정하는데 중요한데 대부분 재래종 계통이나 이들로 만들어진 교잡종은 60cm$\times$30cm의 재식밀도하에서 유효경 비율이 90% 이상되었다.^{\circ}C$처리기간중에는 근의 부위에 관계없이 Rf치가 낮은 쪽에서는 증가하였으나 높은 쪽에서는 상대적으로 감소하였다. 4. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 보면 인삼근에 있어서 신아의 휴면타파 및 맹아는 ABA와는 별로 관계가 없고 온도숙건에 지배되어 나타나는 GA의 생합성 능력과 그 생합성에 의한 활성증가와 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 추정된다.는 0.2045, 0.1208, 0.2248로 추정되었다. 산란율과 난중과의 관계는 0.6233, -0.2259, 0.2973, 500일영 체중과는 0.2417, 0.0774, - 0.4787로 추정되었다. 산란지수와 난중과의 관계는 0.6171, -0.2706, 0.4579, 500일영 체중과의 관계 0.3082, -0.0792, -0.3368로 추정하였다. 난중과 500일영 체중과의 관계는 0.2742, 0.2205, 0.1354로 추정되었다.)에서 47.4%의 가장 높은 검색률을 나타내었고 다음 성계(150일영이상)에서 35.3% 및 유추(30 일영미만)에서 17.3%의 순이었다. 이중 세균성 및 기생충성 질병은 육성계에서의 검색률이 가장 높았으나, 바이러스성 질병은 육성계 및 성계에서 거의 같은 비율로 높았으며 곰팡이성 질병은 유추에서 가장 높은 검색률을 나타내었다.17) 사료비절감은 생산비의 60∼70%를 차지하고 있으므로 공동구인 자가배합을 하여 자기실정에 맞는 경영체질로 운영하고 있었다. Materials used were mostly from Korean local lines and a few lines from other countries were also included for comparison. The time of the first tiller development was about 18 to 20 days after emergence when planted on May in Yusong. The second tiller appeared about 4 to 5 days after the first tiller appeared. The tiller number per plant varied with lines and hybrids and ranged from two to ten. The location of tiller development was usually basal nodes of the main stem. Each tiller appeared to have its own root system. The angle between tillers and main stem was variable depending upon the maizes and the tiller angle could be classified into three categories. The height of tillers was also variable and seemed to be under genetic control. The most productive tillers were found among the Korean local derivatives.

        분얼하는 옥수수 교잡종 (IK//1R1/B68)의 잎이 분얼하지 않는 옥수수(진주옥)의 잎과 길이나, 폭 또는 면적에 있어서 차이가 있는지의 여부를 알기위해 주경 또는 분얼경의 지엽으로 부터 아래로 9개 잎을 수확기에 취하여 엽장, 엽폭, 엽면적을 측정하였다. 1. 개체당 주경의 평균 엽장은 IK형 (IK//IRI/B68)이나 진주옥이 거의 같았으나 평균 엽폭은 IK형이 진주옥보다 약 2cm 좁았다. 평균 엽면적 역시 IK형이 적었는데 그 이유는 엽폭이 좁았기 때문이었다. 2. IK형 옥수수에서 주경과 분엽경간의 잎특성(장, 폭. 면적)은 서로 비슷하였다. 3. IK형 옥수수는 착수절 바로 아래 절의 잎이 가장 길었고 착수절 바로 위의 잎이 가장 넓었다. 4. IK형 옥수수 잎의 절입별 병이계수를 비교한 결과 착수절을 포함한 착수절 근처 잎이 변이계수가 가장 낮았고, 착수절에서 멀리 떨어진 잎일수록 변이계수의 값이 컸다. 특히 정엽의 변이계수는 다른 잎들보다 훨씬 컸다. 이같은 경향은 주경과 분얼경의 잎이 모두 같았다. 5. 기존의 공식(장$\times$폭$\times$0.75)에 의해 추정한 엽면적보다는 직접 측정한 엽면적이 컸다. 따라서 IK형 옥수수의 엽장과 엽폭에 의한 엽면적 추정은 기존의 0.75 대신에 0.80을 이용하는 것이 보다 타당할 것으로 생각된다. Leaf characteristics of main stem and tiller of IK type maize (IK/ /IRI/B68) were compared with those of Jinjoo Ok hybrid which are not usually tillered. A total of nine leaves from flag leaf to the third or the fourth leaf below ear-bearing node were sampled from each stem or tiller. There was no significant difference in mean leaf length between IK/ /IRI/B68 and Jinjoo Ok. But the mean leaf width of IK/ /IRI/ B68 was about 2 cm narrower than that of Jinjoo Ok. The mean leaf area of the IK/ /IRI/B68 was also smaller than that of Jinjoo Ok due to the narrower leaf width. There were not significant differences in mean leaf characteristics between main stem and tillers of IK/IRI/B68. The longest leaf was the leaf below the ear-bearing node and the widest leaf was the leaf just above the ear-bearing node. Mean length. width and area of leaf on main stem and tillers were similar. Coefficients of variation calculated for individual leaf indicated that the leaves near the ear-bearing node were more uniform than others. The leaf area measured was significantly greater than that estimated by formular, length x width x 0.75. New constant to estimate leaf area of tillering maize was derived as 0.8.

        Proteomic Analysis of Differentially Expressed Proteins in Bovine Endometrium with Endometritis

        Endometritis is one of the primary reasons for reproductive failure. In order to investigate endometritis-associated marker proteins, proteomic analysis was performed on bovine endometrium with endometritis. In bovine endometritis, desmin, $\alpha$-actin-2, heat-shock protein (HSP) 27, peroxiredoxin-6, luteinizing hormone receptor isoform 1, collectin-43 precursor, deoxyribonuclease-I (DNase-I), and MHC class I heavy chain (MHC-Ih) were up-regulated. In contrast, transferrin, interleukin-2 precursor, hemoglobin $\beta$ subunit, and potassium channel tetramerisation domaincontaining 11 (KCTD11) were down-regulated in comparison to normal endometrium. The proteomic results were validated by semiquantitative-PCR and immunoblot analysis. The mRNA levels of desmin, transferrin, $\alpha$-actin-2, HSP27, KCTD11, and MHC-Ih were up-regulated by over 1.5-fold, and showed a pattern similar to their proteomic profiles. Desmin and $\alpha$-actin-2 protein showed positive correlations between proteomic analysis and immunoblot analysis. These results suggest that desmin and $\alpha$-actin-2 may play important roles in endometritis-related function, and could be useful markers for the diagnosis of bovine endometritis.

        The Role of Granzyme B Containing Cells in the Progression of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

        Background: Lung inflammation plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the characteristics of the inflammatory process remain unclear. There is growing interest in the role of granzyme B (GzmB) because CD8<sup>+</sup> T cells can induce apoptosis of target cells by releasing GzmB, which in turn may cause tissue injury and remodeling. However, Gzm<sup>B</sup> is also expressed by regulatory cells, which are able to suppress CD8<sup>+</sup> T cell. The role of GzmB+ cells needs to be defined in COPD. Methods: GzmB<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> cells on alveolar wall of surgically resected lungs of microscopically classified 12 nonsmoking control, 12 panlobular emphysema (PLE) and 30 centrilobular emphysema (CLE) subjects were localized by immunohistochemical method. Positively stained cells on alveolar wall were counted and length of corresponding alveolar wall was measured. The results were expressed as mean number of positively stained cells per mm of alveolar wall in each subject. Results: The number of GzmB<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> cells on alveolar wall of CLE was greater than that of control or PLE subjects (p<0.05 and p<0.001, respectively). There was a positive relationship between the number of alveolar GzmB<sup>+</sup> cells and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV<sub>1</sub>) (r=0.610, p=0.003) in CLE subjects. The number of alveolar GzmB<sup>+</sup> cells progressively decreased with decline of FEV<sub>1</sub>. Conclusion: Our finding that number of alveolar GzmB<sup>+</sup> cells was associated with FEV<sub>1</sub> suggests that GzmB<sup>+</sup> cells might have protective role in the progression of lung destruction and airflow limitation in CLE, which is the predominant emphysema subtype of COPD.

        1×6배열 패치 안테나의 복사기 구조와 급전선 브랜치 각도 변화에 따른 특성 연구

        본 논문에서는 $1{\times}6$ 배열 패치 안테나의 복사기 구조와 급전선 브랜치의 각도를 변화시켜 안테나의 특성을 분석하였다. 첫 번째로 복사기 구조를 기존 직사각형 패치를 육각형 패치, 삼각형 패치로 변경하였다. 두 번째로 급전선 브랜치의 각도를 $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ 로 변화를 주었다. 브랜치 각도를 $10^{\circ}$로 꺾을 경우 측정된 10dB 주파수 대역은 23.38GHz-24.19GHz이고 대역폭은 810MHz이다. 제작된 안테나는 24.05GHz에서 9.65-10.06dBi 이득을 갖는다. 메인로브의 빔폭은 $12^{\circ}$이고, 안테나 크기는 $70{\times}36mm^2$이다. 직사각형 패치 외에 다른 모양의 패치를 사용해도 기존 성능을 유지할 수 있으며, 급전선 브랜치를 다양한 각도로 변화시킴으로 배열 안테나 제작에 있어 기판의 크기를 줄이고 제작상에 다양성에 기여할 수 있음을 확인했다. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the antenna by changing the structure of the radiator and the angle of the branch of the array patch antenna. First, the structure of the radiator was changed from the rectangular patch to a hexagonal patch, a triangular patch. Secondly, we changed the angle of the feeder branch to $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$. When the branch angle is $10^{\circ}$, the measured 10dB frequency band is 23.38 GHz-24.19GHz and the bandwidth is 810MHz. The fabricated antenna has a gain of 9.65-10.06dBi at 24.05 GHz. The beam width of the main lobe is $12^{\circ}$, and the antenna size is $70{\times}36mm^2$. In addition to the rectangular patch, it is possible to maintain the performance by using patches of other shapes, and it is confirmed that by changing the feeder branch at various angles, it is possible to reduce the substrate size and contribute to diversity in the fabrication of the array antenna.
