Mining public opinion: a sentiment based forecasting for democratic elections of Pakistan

        Nawaz Asif,Ali Tariq,Hafeez Yaser,Rehman Saif ur,Rashid Muhammad Rizwan 대한공간정보학회 2022 Spatial Information Research Vol.30 No.2

Twitter has emerged as outstanding and most prominent social media in today’s technological age. The data proliferates in quick and words with its activities trigger get fast responses from the users. This platform is perfect for promoting political perspectives, particularly when election campaigns are on its peak. Political trends on Twitter media has been contemplated in the course of recent years. In the past research, both supervised and unsupervised methodologies have been used to analyze the Twitter trends. Most of the Tweet classification approaches utilized built in Dictionaries, Naı¨ve Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), decision tree and Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifiers. However, in case of democratic election these trends can be mined to predict the winning party. However, all such approaches produce poor results due to language issues, low accuracy, limited access to internet and lower literacy rate in less developed countries such as Pakistan. This research study, find the best possible way for collection of tweets related to different political parties and build a prediction model that may analyze sentiments and opinions expressed by peoples in their Tweets. In this research work, a prediction based model along with novel similarity measure has been proposed to predict the election results of political parties in Pakistan. The proposed work is composed of data collection, preprocessing, aspect extraction, aspect refinement and final prediction using Bayesian theorem. Form the experimental results, it is concluded that proposed approach perform better than existing techniques by obtaining almost 98% accuracy and efficiently cover the limitations of existing studies.

Prevalence of PALB2 Germline Mutations in Early-onset and Familial Breast/Ovarian Cancer Patients from Pakistan

        Muhammad Usman Rashid,Faiz Ali Khan,Noor Muhammad,Asif Loya,Ute Hamann 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.3

Purpose Partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) is a breast cancer susceptibility gene that plays an important role in DNA repair. This is the first study assessing the prevalence of PALB2 mutations in early-onset and familial breast/ovarian cancer patients from Pakistan. Materials and Methods PALB2 mutation screening was performed in 370 Pakistani patients with early-onset and familial breast/ovarian cancer, who were negative for BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53, CHEK2, and RAD51C mutations, using denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. Mutations were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Novel PALB2 alterations were analyzed for their potential effect on protein function or splicing using various in silico prediction tools. Three-hundred and seventy-two healthy controls were screened for the presence of the identified (potentially) functional mutations. Results A novel nonsense mutation, p.Y743*, was identified in one familial breast cancer patient (1/127, 0.8%). Besides, four in silico-predicted potentially functional mutations including three missense mutations and one 5' untranslated region mutation were identified: p.D498Y, novel p.G644R, novel p.E744K, and novel c.-134_-133delTCinsGGGT. The mutations p.Y743* and p.D498Y were identified in two familial patients diagnosed with unilateral or synchronous bilateral breast cancer at the ages of 29 and 39, respectively. The other mutations were identified in an early-onset (! 30 years of age) breast cancer patient each. All five mutations were absent in 372 healthy controls suggesting that they are disease associated. Conclusion Our findings show that PALB2 mutations account for a small proportion of early-onset and hereditary breast/ovarian cancer cases in Pakistan.

      • Down-Regulation of CYP1A1 Expression in Breast Cancer

Hafeez, S.,Ahmed, A.,Rashid, Asif Z.,Kayani, Mahmood Akhtar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Breast cancer is a major cause of death in women worldwide. Mammary tissue expressing xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes metabolically activate or detoxify potential genotoxic breast carcinogens. Deregulation of these xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes is considered to be a major contributory factor to breast cancer. The present study is focused on the expression of the xenobiotic metabolizing gene, CYP1A1, in breast cancer and its possible relationships with different risk factors. Twenty five tumors and twenty five control breast tissue samples were collected from patients undergoing planned surgery or biopsy from different hospitals. Semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western-blotting were used to investigate the expression of CYP1A1 in breast cancer control and disease samples. mRNA expression of CYP1A1 was down-regulated in 40% of breast tumor samples. Down-regulation was also observed at the protein level. Significnat relations were noted with marital status and tumour grade but not histopathological type. In conclusion, CYP1A1 protein expression was markedly reduced in tumor breast tissues samples as compared to paired control tissue samples.

Analysis of diesel hydrocarbon decomposition using efficient indigenous bacterial isolate: Bacterial growth and biodegradation kinetics

        Shazra Khalid,Aneela Iqbal,Asif Javed,Jamshaid Rashid,Ihsan ul Haq,Mohamed Abou El-Fetouh Barakat,Rajeev Kumar 한국화학공학회 2022 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.39 No.11

Industrialization and urbanization have increased the demand for petroleum hydrocarbons; hence the likelihood of contamination of air, soil, and water bodies increases. The survival and biodegradation capabilities of fifteen bacterial isolates were tested in a harsh diesel environment. The bacteria were isolated from soil samples and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The biodegradation capability of isolates was performed in batch experiments, and diesel degradation analyses were conducted on gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). The results revealed that only two bacterial isolates (A1 and E5) sufficiently consumed diesel hydrocarbons as a carbon-based energy source. 16S rRNA sequencing identified both isolates as Bacillus genera. An average of 60% of 3% (v/v) diesel was degraded in about 16 hours. Bacillus sp. E5 strain could degrade about 72% and 68% heavier compounds of C24 and C26. The Monod kinetic model for Bacillus sp. E5 utilizing diesel as a substrate showed maximum specific bacterial growth rate (μmax) as 0.1131 hr-1 at 1%, while 0.1287 hr-1 for 3% diesel. Results suggest that the isolated bacterial strain Bacillus sp. E5 has bioremediation potential and can be used as an alternative method for cleaning contaminated petroleum hydrocarbon field sites for sustainable development.

Determinants of Corporate Cash Holdings Among Asia’s Emerging and Frontier Markets

Tanveer BAGH,Muhammad Asif KHAN,Natanya MEYER,Rashid SADIQ,Sebastian KOT 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

The determinants of Corporate Cash Holdings (CCH) have been a deep-seated debate among institutions and scholars over the last couple of years. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the determinants of CCH among emerging and frontier markets (Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan). Due to endogeneity, the generalized methods of moments (GMM) methodology was applied to capture the impacts of different variables, including profitability, firm size, financial leverage growth opportunity, dividend payout, and the business cycle on CCH. The result shows that the firm’s size positively enhances CCH in emerging and frontier markets. Growth opportunity is negatively influenced by CCH in the case of Bangladeshi firms while a positive driver in emerging markets. The business cycle has a negative bearing on CCH across Pakistan, India, and Bangladeshi firms while positive and significant in Chinese firms. Financial leverage and dividend payout were positive determinants of CCH in Chinese firms, while they appear negative for Pakistan, India and Bangladeshi firms. Finally, profitability has a positive and significant impact on CCH in frontier and emerging markets. The study contributes to the incumbent determinants of CCH literature by introducing a fresh outlook and offering policy insights helpful in emerging and frontier markets perspectives.

Ground state opto-electronic and thermoelectric response of cubic XSnO3 (X = Ba, Sr) compounds

        M. Bilal Saddique,Muhammad Rashid,Adnan Afzal,Shahid M. Ramay,Farooq Aziz,Asif Mahmood 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.8

The density functional has been implemented to deliberate the cubic perovskite XSnO3 (X ¼ Ba, Sr) for their elastic, electronic, optical as well as thermoelectric characteristic. The XSnO3 (X ¼ Ba, Sr) illustrates good pact of lattice parameter for these iso-structural compounds having cubic perovskite structure. The generalized gradient approximation based on the exchange-correlation functional is applied for computing structural and mechanical characteristic, whereas the electronic, optical and thermoelectric properties have been studied by the functional suggested by Tran and Blaha that is termed as of modified Becke-Johnson (mBJ) functional. The thermodynamics stability is recognized through the expression of enthalpies of formation, which is further verified from the calculated structural properties of cubic perovskite XSnO3 (X ¼ Ba, Sr). Moreover, various elastic parameters such has bulk modules B, Cij, shear modulus G, Young's modulus Y, anisotropy factor, B/G ratio and Poisson's ratio n have also been reported. It has been observed by band structure computation that the studied compounds exhibit an indirect band gap between the unoccupied Ba/Sr 6s/5s and the occupied O 2p orbitals. Detailed study of optical properties is presented under the incident photon energy upto 28 eV. Our computed static dielectric constant ε2(0) and refractive index n(0) are comparable with other theoretical and experimental values. Thermoelectric properties are presented in terms of computed Seebeck coefficient, electrical and thermal conductivities and their variation with the rise in temperature suggest that the studied compounds may find applications in the construction of various thermo-electric devices.
