        공간 선택적 브릴루앙 산란을 이용한 분포형 광섬유 센서의 실험

        직접 광주파수 변조된 레이저 다이오드를 광원으로 이용하여 공간 선택적 브릴루앙 산란 방식으로 분포형 광섬유 센서를 구성하여 실험하였다. 광주파수가 정현파로 변조된 펌프와 프로브 빛이 광섬유 내로 서로 반대 방향으로 진행하며 중첩되도록 함으로써 광섬유 내 특정 지점에서만 유도 브릴루앙 산란이 발생하도록 하였으며, 변조 주파수를 변화시켜 브릴루앙 이득 피크의 위치를 조절할 수 있었다. 브릴루앙 천이 주파수가 서로 다른 광섬유를 접속한 경우와 광섬유 길이를 따라 온도 분포가 존재하는 경우에 대해 각각 브릴루앙 천이 주파수의 분포를 측정하였다. 브릴루앙 천이 주파수의 온도 변화율은 $1.33MHz/^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다. We demonstrate a distributed fiber sensor system based on spatially-selective Brillouin scattering, using a single laser diode as a light source whose optical frequency is directly modulated by the injection current. The pump and the counter-propagating probe lights, which are sinusoidally frequency-modulated, are superposed in the fiber so that stimulated Brillouin scattering takes places only at a specific location along the fiber. Brillouin gain peak position is controlled by varying the modulation frequency. Distributions of Brillouin shift frequency are measured for the case of concatenated optical fibers of two different kinds and also for the case of temperature distribution. The temperature coefficient of the Brillouin shift frequency is measured to be $1.33MHz/^{\circ}C$.

        한국인의 위팔뼈 체적을 이용한 성별판별: 계측방식

        This study aimed to explore the use of three-dimensional reconstructed computed tomography images of the adult humerus for forensic anthropological sex estimation in the Korean population. In forensic anthropology, the skull and pelvic bone show high accuracy in sex estimation; however, when they are impaired, other bones should be available for sex estimation. Six hundred images of the right and left humerus pair were used. A logistic regression analysis was performed by measuring the volumes of 500 images and the remaining 100 images were used in the metric sex estimation. Both the logistic regression and metric measurements were performed separately on three regions of the right and left humerus: the head, mid-shaft, and digital regions, The accuracy of sex estimation in the right humerus was 93% (91% for men and 96% for women), 92% (93% for men and 91% for women), and 87% (85% for men and 89% for women) for the head, mid-shaft, and digital regions, respectively. Sex estimation accuracy in the left humerus was 92% (89% for men and 96% for women), 93% (96% for men and 89% for women), and 91% (91% for men and 91% for women) for the head, mid-shaft, and digital regions, respectively. These results contribute to high accuracy and reliability in sex estimation using three-dimensional images of the humerus in Koreans, whereas the two-dimensional metric method provided limited information on bone measurements.

        Comparative Analysis of Energy Expenditure Assessments from the Graded Exercise Test vs. Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch in Korean College Students during A 30-Minute Workout: A Pilot Study

        OBJECTIVES In the modern era, there is heightened interest in understanding energy expenditure during exercise. Consequently, wearable devices such as the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch have emerged as pivotal tools for daily health monitoring, given their convenience and increasing popularity. This study aimed to compare the calculated energy expenditure derived from the graded exercise test with readings from Galaxy and Apple Watches during a 30-min exercise session among Korean university students. Through this, we anticipate offering both motivation and clear insights into energy expenditure, thereby potentially aiding in weight management strategies for contemporary individuals. METHODS This study involved 27 college students from Korea National University of Transportation in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea. We utilized COSMED's exercise load respiratory gas analysis system (Quark- CPET, COSMED, Rome, Italy), along with the Galaxy Watch (Galaxy Watch 5, Samsung, Seoul, Korea) and the Apple Watch (Apple watch series 5, Apple, Cupertino, USA) for measurements. Energy expenditure was monitored in real-time every 5 min throughout the 30-min exercise session. For statistical evaluations, we employed a one-way analysis of variance. Subsequent post-tests utilized the Tukey post-hoc test and Pearson correlation, with a significance level set at p<0.05. RESULTS Initially, no statistically significant difference emerged between energy expenditure readings from the graded exercise test and those from the Galaxy Watch across all time intervals: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 min (p>0.05). Conversely, a notable difference was observed when comparing energy expenditure data from the graded exercise test to that of the Apple Watch for time intervals of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 min (p>0.05), although the 5-min interval did not exhibit a significant difference (p>0.05). Furthermore, a robust positive correlation was evident between the energy expenditure values derived from the graded exercise test and those from both the Galaxy Watch (r=0.952, p<0.001) and the Apple Watch (r=0.917, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS Both devices demonstrated high reliability in calculating energy expenditure. Notably, the Galaxy Watch exhibited a more precise calculation compared to the Apple Watch, with a relative reliability margin of 3.5% higher. For individuals, especially those struggling with obesity, precise wearable devices that accurately reflect energy consumption can significantly boost motivation for exercise. Consequently, this study lays a foundation for future advancements in energy expenditure measurement tools, emphasizing enhanced convenience, reliability, and mobility.

        2020년도 중부지역의 법의부검에 대한 통계적 분석

        945 forensic autopsy cases of Jungbu-region(Central part of South Korea) conducted at the year 2020 in the National Forensic Service Daejeon institute were statistically analyzed in terms of manner and cause of death. Analysis of the manner of death revealed that 43.6%(412 / 945 cases) were natural deaths, 41.6%(393 / 945 cases) were unnatural deaths, and 14.8%(140 / 945 cases) were unknown deaths. Among the unnatural deaths, the majority of the 40.7% (160 / 393 cases) were accidents, 29.5% (116 / 393 cases) were suicide, 21.6% (85 / 393 cases) were undetermined, and 8.1% (32 / 393 cases) were homicide deaths. Among the unnatural death, the majority of the 42.7%(168 / 393 cases) were trauma, followed by 19.3%(76 / 393 cases) of poisoning and 16.5%(65 / 393 cases) of asphyxia. Falling down was the major cause of death by trauma 42.9%(72 / 168 cases). The strangulation was the major cause of asphyxia, as 72.3%(47 / 65 cases). Among the natural deaths, heart disease was the major cause 43.7%(180 / 412 cases), followed by vascular disease 18.9%(78 / 412 cases). This study is the first statistical interpretation of the manner and cause of death arised in the Jungbu-region. Serial anuual statistical analysis of manner and cause of death arised in the jungbu-region might allow more advanced information.
