        원발개방각녹내장 환자에서 섬유주절제술 후 점안 스테로이드 치료 효과 비교

        Purpose: To compare the surgical outcomes and intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction after trabeculectomy in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) according to treatment with three different postoperative topical steroids. Methods: A total of 84 eyes of 84 patients who had undergone trabeculectomy for POAG and were followed-up at least 1 year were included in this study. According to the postoperative topical steroid treatment, the patients were divided into three groups involving 0.5% loteprednol etabonate (LE), 1% rimexolone (RMX), and 1% prednisolone acetate (PDA). The mean IOP change, mean number of topical anti-glaucoma medication changes, 1-year success rate, and complication percentage were compared among the three groups. Results: There were significant reductions in the IOP and number of anti-glaucoma medications during the postoperative 1-year follow-up in all of the groups (all, p < 0.05), but there were no differences among the three groups. Postoperative 1-year success rates (68.2% in the LE group, 67.0% in the RMX group, and 65.9% in the PDA group; p = 0.88) and complication percentages of trabeculectomy were not significantly different among the three groups. Conclusions: There were no statistical differences in the 1-year success rate, complication percentage, visual acuity, IOP, and number of anti-glaucoma medications among treatment regimens. LE and RMX were as effective and safe as PDA after trabeculectomy in patients with POAG. 목적: 원발개방각녹내장 환자에서 섬유주절제술 후 점안 스테로이드 사용에 따른 수술 성공률과 안압하강 효과를 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 원발개방각녹내장으로 섬유주절제술을 시행 받고 1년 이상 추적관찰이 가능했던 84명 84안을 대상으로 하였다. 수술 후 사용한 점안 스테로이드(0.5% loteprednol etabonate [LE], 1% rimexolone [RMX], 1% prednisolone acetate [PDA])에 따라 환자를 세 군으로 분류하였다. 세 군 간의 수술 전후의 시력, 안압, 녹내장 약제 개수와 수술 성공률 및 합병증을 비교하였다. 결과: 섬유주절제술 후 1년간의 추적관찰 동안 세 군 모두 수술 전에 비해 유의한 안압하강과 녹내장약제 개수의 감소를 보였으나 각 군 간의 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았다. 수술 후 1년 성공률은 LE군 68.2%, RMX군 67.0%, PDA군 65.9%로 술 후 점안 스테로이드에 따른 수술 성공률의 차이는 없었고(p=0.88) 술 후 합병증도 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았다. 결론: 원발개방각녹내장 환자에서 섬유주절제술 후 1년 수술 성공률 및 합병증, 시력, 안압하강, 녹내장약제 개수의 감소에 있어 LE와 RMX는 PDA와 동등한 효과를 보였다. 따라서 원발개방각녹내장 환자에서 섬유주절제술 후 LE와 RMX 또한 효과적이며 안전하게 사용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

        Analysis of Changes in the Phytochemical Content of Tartary Buckwheat Flowers and Seeds during the Post-flowering Growth

        Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum), which is a traditional Korean crop, has been known as a health food due to its rich nutrition. This study was conducted to evaluate the change in flavonoid content of flowers and seeds during post-flowering growth of Korean tartary buckwheat variety ‘Hwanggeummiso’, with the aim of providing basic data for the development of functional food and feed additive. Tartary buckwheat took 69 and 99 days from the sowing date to reach the flowering and maturity stages, respectively. As a result of examining the flavonoid components of each part of tartary buckwheat, chlorogenic acid, rutin, and isoquercitrin of flowers increased from the flowering period on 22 May (0 days after flowering) to 42 days after flowering, while quercetin increased until 21 days after flowering and then decreased thereafter. In seeds, chlorogenic acid, rutin, and isoquercitrin were most abundant at the time of seed-bearing on 14 days after flowering, and showed a decreasing tendency thereafter. On the other hand, quercetin showed a tendency to increase until 21 days after flowering and then decrease. Overall, the flavonoid content was higher in flowers than in seeds, with rutin being particularly prominent. Based on this, the possibility as food materials and feed additives was confirmed using buckwheat produced in Korea.

        옥수수 이삭 등숙 기간 동안 속대와 종실의 Phytosterol 함량 변화

        Corn (Zea mays L.) is one of the world’s most important crops, along with wheat and rice, with a global corn production expected to reach 1,154.5 million tons in 2023. Considering this grain production, The generation of corn cob is expected to reach approximately 207.8 million tons in 2023. However, as an agricultural by-product, corn cobs are often considered waste and remain underutilized. Phytosterols, which are abundant in vegetable oils such as corn oil, provide a number of health benefits, including liver health, cholesterol reduction, and protection against chronic diseases such as diabetes. In this study, we investigated the potential of Kwangpyeongok ears, which are commonly used as grain and silage corn in Korea. We also examined the variation in phytosterol content with the maturity of corn ears to identify the optimal time for utilization. At the beginning of physiological maturity, corn cobs had 113.3 mg/100g DW of total phytosterols, which was highest phytosterol abundance during the growth stage. Corn kernels also had the highest phytosterol content at the beginning of physiological maturity. While previous studies on corn bioactive compounds have mainly focused on the kernels, the results of this study highlight that cobs are an excellent source of these compounds. Furthermore, phytosterol levels were influenced by genetic factors and developmental stages, suggesting the to increase the use of cobs as a source of bioactive compounds.

        국내 찰옥수수 계통의 농업형질 특성 및 연관 연구

        ABSTRACT Waxy corn (Zea mays L.), which contains homozygous mutant alleles for the waxy1 (wx1) gene, is widelyconsumed as a snack food in Asia. This study evaluated sixteen agronomic characteristics of inbred Korean waxy corn lines to aiddevelopment of high-quality waxy corn cultivars. The plant materials studied were 177 inbred waxy corn lines developed by theNational Institute of Crop Science, Rural Development Administration, Republic of Korea. For the tested lines, days to tasselingand silking averaged 77.69±2.22 days (with a range of 56-97 days), and 81.12±7.56 days (66-99 days), respectively. Plant lengthranged from 88 to 237 cm (averaged 164.88±22.67 cm), ear length averaged 11.75±2.52 cm (5.0-18.5 cm), and ear width averaged2.94±0.68 cm (1.4-4.5 cm). The number of rows on each ear of corn averaged 12.22±2.22 (7-32 rows) and the kernel numberaveraged 24.30±4.22 (9-37 kernels) per row. The crude protein content was 12.05±1.53% (8.90-21.80%) and total starch contentwas 69.27±5.74% (49.5-83.9%). Principal component analysis revealed that ear width, grain length, ear length, days to tasseling,days to silking, percentage of ear setting height, and total starch are features that allow distinction between the 177 waxy inbredcorn lines. Hierarchical cluster analysis identified twelve waxy inbred lines that produce tall plants and have a short silking period. These lines may improve yield among quickly growing corn varieties. 적 요본 연구는 국립식량과학원에서 고품질 내재해성 찰옥수수 품종 개발을 위해 육성한 177개의 흰찰옥수수, 노랑찰옥수수, 검정찰옥수수 자식계통을 이용하여 16개 농업형질에 대해 평가하여 우수 계통 선발 및 품종 개방을 위한 기초 자료로 이용하고자 수행하였다. 1. 흰찰옥수수, 노랑찰옥수수, 검정찰옥수수 자식계통의 16개 농업형질을 조사한 결과 전체 계통의 평균 출웅일수는 77.69±2.22일, 출사일수 81.12±7.56일, 초장 164.88±22.67 cm, 간장 124.61±24.62 cm, 착수고율 49.34±9.08%,옆폭 7.53±1.45 cm, 이삭길이 11.75±2.52 cm, 이삭폭2.94±0.68 cm, 이삭열수 12.22±2.22열, 종자길이 7.75±1.08 mm, 종자너비 7.42±0.68 mm, 종자두께 5.06±0.68mm, 이삭착립장 11.79±2.13 cm, 열당 종자수 24.30±4.22립, 조단백질 12.05±1.53%, 총 전분 69.27±5.74%로 조사되었다. 2. 16개 농업형질 간의 상관관계 분석결과 출웅일수와 출사일수 간의 상관관계가 0.896으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 초장과 간장 간의 상관관계가 0.740로, 이삭착립장과 이삭 열당 종자수도 0.675로 상관관계가 다음으로 높았다. 3. 주성분 분석 결과 16개의 농업형질 중에서 이삭폭, 종자길이, 이삭길이, 출웅일수, 출사일수, 착수고율, 총 전분이 177개 옥수수 자식계통을 식별하는데 유용한 형질들인 것으로 나타났다. 4. 계층 군집분석을 통해 초장이 크고 동시에 출사일수가짧은 흰찰 자식계통 7개(KW34, KW37, KW83, KW84,KW100, KW103), 검정찰 자식계통 1개(KBW33), 노랑찰 자식계통 4개(KY11, KY23, KY26, KY34)를 선발하였다. 이 계통들은 수량성이 높은 조생종 찰옥수수 품종을 개발하는데 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

        Effects of Preservative on the Meibomian Gland in Glaucoma Patients Treated with Prostaglandin Analogues

        This study compared the effect of preservative-containing (PC) and preservative-free (PF) prostaglandin analogue (PGA) formulations on the ocular surface, especially on the meibomian gland (MG) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). This is a retrospective study of treatment-naïve patients with OAG (n=80) and healthy controls (n=40). OAG patients were randomized into groups using either PC-PGA or PF-PGA for 12 months. All participants underwent ocular surface and MG examinations including their meibum score, meiboscore, and lid margin abnormality score (LAS). Eighty OAG patients were randomized into two groups (n=42 in PC, n=38 in PF). All PGA and control groups showed similar ocular surface and MG parameters at the baseline. Both PC- and PF-PGA groups showed increased meibum scores, meiboscores, and LASs at 12 months compared to the baseline (all p<0.05). At the 12-months visit, PC-PGA group showed severe OSDI, shorter TBUT, greater OSS, and worse MG parameters than those of the other two groups (all p<0.05). In addition, PF-PGA group showed worse meiboscores, meibum scores, and severe OSS scores than those of the control group (all p<0.05). Both PC and PF formulations can cause damage to the MG in patients using PGA. However, PC formulations induced more ocular discomfort, poorer ocular surface, and more severe MG loss compared to PF formulations. Therefore, it would be advisable to use PF formulations in patients with a preexisting or concomitant ocular surface disease or MGD.

        Efficacy and Safety of Intracameral Bevacizumab for Treatment of Neovascular Glaucoma

        Purpose: To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of intracameral bevacizumab in patients with neovascularglaucoma. Methods: This retrospective study included 26 eyes of 26 neovascular glaucoma patients who received intracameralbevacizumab injection between January 2013 and May 2015, and were followed-up for at least1 year. All patients were treated with topical and/or systemic intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering medications,intracameral bevacizumab, and panretinal photocoagulation (PRP). The main outcome measures werechanges in visual acuity, IOP, and neovascularization of the iris (NVI) and the anterior chamber angle (NVA). To assess the safety of intracameral bevacizumab, corneal endothelial changes were also determined usingspecular microscopy. Patients whose IOP was uncontrolled received IOP-lowering surgery. Clinical factorsassociated with IOP-lowering surgery were also investigated. Results: In all patients, intracameral bevacizumab resulted in a rapid and marked reduction of IOP, NVI, andNVA within 1 week. At 12 months after initial injection, 19 of 26 eyes (73%) underwent IOP-lowering surgery. The average interval between initial injection and surgical treatment was 33.6 ± 26.9 days. Baseline IOP(p = 0.018), NVA grade (p = 0.029), and incomplete PRP (p = 0.005) were identified as predictive factors forIOP-lowering surgery. During the follow-up period, there were no statistically significant corneal endothelialchanges after intracameral bevacizumab injection. Conclusions: During 1 year of follow-up after intracameral bevacizumab, the procedure was found to be safefor the corneal endothelium. However, the IOP-lowering effect was transient, and 73% of patients eventuallyrequired IOP-lowering surgery. Predictive factors for IOP-lowering surgery were high baseline IOP and NVAgrade, and incomplete PRP.
