A functioning paraganglioma is a rare catecholamine-producing tumor that arises from the extra-adrenal chromaffin tissue. Recently we experienced a case in which a 42 year-old male patient with a functioning extra-adrenal paraganglioma mimicked an acute coronary syndrome. A functioning extra-adrenal paraganglioma was diagnosed by means of a biochemical study and a radiological imaging study. After stabilizing his blood pressure, using alpha adrenergic blocker, we successfully removed a 6×6cm sized paraganglioma from between the aorta and the IVC in the retroperitoneal space(J Kor Soc Endocrinol 18:94~99, 2003). 카테콜아민을 분비하는 기능성 부신경절종은 드문 질환이며 급성 관동맥증후군으로 발현한 경우는 더욱 드물다. 이에 저자들은 혈압 변동이 심한 급성 관상동맥증후군 환자에서 기능성 부신경절종을 진단하여 성공적으로 치료한 1예를 경험했기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
A Crack Repair Patch Based on Acrylated Epoxidized Soybean Oil

We present a novel UV-curable patch system that can be used to repair the cracked surfaces of chemical reservoirs. When a crack occurs in a chemical reservoir, the patch can be quickly attached to the damaged area, and then cured with a portable UV source in order to prevent the further spread of toxic chemicals. Crosslinked acrylated epoxidized soy bean oil (AESO) materials with various compositions and crosslinking densities were prepared by reacting AESO with the triethylenetetramine (TETA) crosslinker and tested as UV-curable pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs).
Endoscopic Ultrasound Elastography for the Pancreas in Korea: A Preliminary Single Center Study

Background/Aims: Endoscopic ultrasound elastography (EUS-EG) has been widely used for the evaluation of pancreatic cancer in the Western world. To date, there is very little experience with EUS-EG in Korea. We described the results of comparison between normal pancreas and pancreatic cancer in Korea. Methods: The present study was performed at a tertiary hospital on 35 subjects comprising 20 with normal pancreas (control group) and 15 with pancreatic cancer (disease group). We compared the EUS-EG performance of the two groups. Results: The pancreas in the control group showed a mean elasticity value of 0.53% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.45 to 0.61). The elasticity value was higher than that previously reported from Western country (0.47% [95% CI, 0.38 to 0.57]). In the disease group, the mean elasticity value of pancreatic lesions was 0.02% (95% CI, 0.01 to 0.02). The mean elasticity value of the disease group was significantly lower than that of the control group (p<0.0001)Conclusions: EUS-EG could be a highly sensitive diagnostic modality for pancreatic cancer in Korea with little EUS-EG experience. We also provided the reference range of elasticity value of normal pancreas, which might be valuable in the interpretation of pancreatic elasticity data for Korean adults.

I will introduce a novel dual stimuli responsive self-reporting coatings which can detect both crack occurrence and pH variation. For crack detection, microcapsule containing tetraphenylethylene (TPE) which exhibits aggregation induced emission (AIE) effect was prepared via multi-step emulsion polymerization and dispersed in self-reporting coatings. For pH variation detection, commercial thymol blue as a pH indicator was added into the polymer matrix. The color transition of self-reporting coatings in response to acid or base solution were quantitatively investigated using a multi-angle spectrophotometer. Finally, The self-reporting coatings used in this study was applied to laboratory scale chemical reservoirs in order to verify the potential as a dual stimuli response self-reporting coating which can detect both crack in coating material and chemical spill caused by the leakage or breakage of the reservoir part.

The reaction kinetics of model thiol-epoxy polymer networks (TEPNs) was visualized by tracking pH variation occurred during cross-linking reaction. Color transition of TEPNs was monitored in real-time and the result was correlated with other characterization techniques such as Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and oscillational rheology measurements. Influence of glass transition temperature (Tg) on reaction kinetics of TEPNs during the low temperature cross-linking reaction was investigated by employing various TEPNs having different functionality of cross-linkers.
