Background and Objective: Mechanical laundry has a key role for environmental control of allergens. However, the optimal conditions for removing allergens such as house dust mite (HDM), dog dander, and pollens are not yet clear. Method: Four cleaning modes such as 30℃, 40℃, 60℃, and steam (adapt steam and water cleaning) were evaluated. Viability of HDM was assayed with heat escape method and levels of group 1 major allergens of D. farinae (Der f 1) and dog dander (Can f 1) were assayed with 2-site ELISA. Levels of pollen protein were assayed with Bradford method. Result: At 60℃ and steam cleaning modes, all HDM were dead but at 30∼40℃ modes, only 6.4∼9.3% of HDM were dead. The levels of Der f 1 in extraction buffers immediately after 30℃, 40℃, 60℃, and steam cleaning were 26.8%, 2.4%, 1.3%, and 0.6%, respectively. The levels of Can f 1 were 41.5%, 42.7%, 12.6%, 9.8% and the pollen protein levels were 31.8%, 4.9%, 3.9%, and 2.8%, respectively. Conclusion: Steam and 60℃ cleaning is better than 30∼40℃ cleaning for removing indoor and pollen allergens. (Korean J Asthma Allergy Clin Immunol 2006;26:289-296)

The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) Tat protein transduction domain (PTD) is responsible for highly efficient protein transduction across plasma membranes. In a previous study, we showed that Tat- Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase (Tat-SOD) can be directly transduced into mammalian cells across the lipid membrane barrier. In this study, we fused the human SOD gene with a Tat PTD transduction vector at its N- and/or C-terminus. The fusion proteins (Tat-SOD, SOD-Tat, Tat-SOD-Tat) were purified from Escherichia coli and their ability to enter cells in vitro and in vivo compared by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The transduction efficiencies and biological activities of the SOD fusion protein with the Tat PTD at either terminus were equivalent and lower than the fusion protein with the Tat PTD at both termini. The availability of a more efficient SOD fusion protein provides a powerful vehicle for therapy in human diseases related to this anti-oxidant enzyme and to reactive oxygen species.
자일로스와 들깨를 이용한 기능성 마카롱 개발 및 생리활성 품질 분석

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Perilla frutescens powder on physiological and sensory characteristics in macaron$\grave{e}$. The perilla powders were added to macaron$\grave{e}$ at a weight percentage of 0, 2.5 and 4%. Color values (L-value, redness and yellowness index), total phenolics, DPPH radical scavenging activity, textures, total sugar contents and sensory characteristics of macaron$\grave{e}$ made with varying levels of perilla powder were measured. In sensory evaluation, significant differences (p<0.05 and p<0.01) were shown in color, sweetness, nuttyflavor, texture and overall acceptability depending on the addition level of perilla powders.
병렬처리 기법을 이용한 복합재 적층 구조물의 면내 파손 해석 소프트웨어 개발

본 논문에서는 복합재 적층 구조물의 면내 구조 해석을 위한 자동화 소프트웨어를 개발한다. 개발된 소프트웨어는 다양한 파손 기준을 제공하며 사용자의 편리성을 고려하여 해석 결과를 출력한다. 또한 병렬처리 기법에 기반한 일괄 처리 해석(batch job analysis) 기능을 지원한다. 구현된 소프트웨어의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 소프트웨어에서 계산된 안전 여유와 자체적으로 사용 중인 in-house 방식과 실제 시편 실험에서 얻어진 안전 여유간의 비교를 수행하였다. 비교 결과 in-house 방식과는 0.01 이하의 오차가 있었으며 시편 실험과는 약 ±10% 이내의 오차가 존재함을 확인하였다. 또한 병렬처리 기법을 적용한 일괄 처리 해석 작업의 실행 속도 개선을 확인하였다. In this paper, we develop an automated software for in-plane structural analysis of composite laminated structures. The developed software supports various failure criteria and reports the analysis results considering user’s convenience. It also provides batch job analysis function based on parallel processing technique. To verify the performance of the software, we compared margin of safety(MS) calculated in the software to those obtained from in-house method and the specimen experiment. As a result of comparisons, there was an error of less than 0.01 in the in-house method and it is within about ±10% with the specimen experiment. In addition, we confirmed the improvement of execution speed of batch job analysis based on parallel processing technique.
서울 지역의 집먼지진드기의 계절별 서식현황 및 거주자의 건강에 미치는 영향

Background: Exposure to aeroallergens is a critical factor for sensitization of allergens and provocation of respiratory allergic symptoms. Objective: We investigated the seasonal variation of the infestation of house dust mites in the domestic environment of Seoul and its vicinities and its influences on the health of inhabitants. Method: The study was performed from April 2000 through January 2001, comprised 63 houses. The dust samples were collected from bedclothes, bedroom, kitchen, and living room floors by vacuum cleaner in April, July, October, and January. Group 1 major allergen of D. farinae (Der f 1) was measured by two-site ELISA. Specific IgE of enrolled subjects was measured by ELISA. The status of health was evaluated by the questionnaire comprising 5 domains and 26 items. Result: House dust mite (HDM) was detected in 85% houses. Concentration of Der f 1 in the bedclothes dust was highest in October, followed by January, July, and April. The seasonal variation of Der f 1 was prominent in the floor dust. The prevalence of specific IgE to HDM is higher in subjects with high Der f 1 in bedclothes dust (>2μg/g dust). There was no difference in eye and nasal symptoms between inhabitants with low (Der f 1<2μg/g dust) and high Der f 1 (Der f 1≥2μg/g dust) group in bedclothes dust. However, in the high Der f 1 group, inhabitants more frequently had complained of the difficulty in breathing at day and night during recent 1 year. Conclusion: Marked seasonal variation of HDM infestation is found in domestic environments of Seoul citizens and exposure to HDM can affect the health of the inhabitants.
