In order to observe the pathological changes of kidney in rabbits infected with the viral haemorrhagic disease, the kidney tissues from the 91 rabbits infected with the viral haemorrhagic disease were examined by light and electron microscopy. The results observed were as follows: 1. On light microscopic observation, the kidney lesions were identified as haemorrhagic glomerular necrosis(33.0%), membranous glomerulonephritis(20.9%), thrombotic glomerulopathy(19.8%), membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis(8.8%), mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis(8.8%) ischemic acute tubular necrosis(7.7%), and acute serous glomerulitis(6.6%). 2. On electron microscopic observation, cytoplasmic degeneration of mesangial cells, and irregular thickening of basement membranes with electron dense granular materials were observed. In podocytes swelling of mitochondria, dilatation of endoplasmic reticulum and extensive fusion of foot processes were also observed. Nonenveloped round icosahedral picornaviral particles with a diameter of 28~33nm were detected in the cytoplasm of degenerative endothelial cells, polymorphonuclear leucoytes, and monocytes.

Encephalomyocarditis virus infection in pigs, characterized by severe reproductive failure in sows and sudden death in less than 7 day-old-piglets, a period of several months from October to December of 1989, in Korea was occurred. The most outstanding gross lesions at necropsy were found in the heart which were consisted of pale, yellow brown necrotic foci of varying size in myocardium. In some cases, pulmonary edema and liver congestion were observed. Histopathology of the heart revealed the interstitial myocarditis, endocarditis and epicarditis with lymphocytic, plasmacytic and macrophage cell infiltration and, in some cases, calcification of the necrotic myocardial muscle fibers. In some cases of brain, the perivascular cuffing and glial nodules were observed. In the liver and the lacrimal gland varying degrees of multifocal necrosis were seen. The virus was isolated from the heart and the brain in a stillborn piglet and a mummified fetus. This outbreak represents the first case of encephalomyocarditis virus infection of pigs in Korea.

Pathological studies were performed on the five piglets experimentally infected with Aujeszky's disease virus(pseudorabies), NYJ isolate, isolated from the naturally infected pigs in Korea: two piglets were inoculated intramuscularly, two piglets intranasally, and one piglet subcutaneously at the dose of 1$m\ell$ per animal with the 105.5 $TCID_50$/0.1ml titer. Clinical signs included dyspnea, high fever(>$41^{\circ}C$), anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, ataxia, circling movement, posterior paralysis, intermittent convulsion, and coma followed by death although some variations by age and inoculated routes were observed. Gross features included multiple necrotic foci in the liver, congestion and hemorrhage in the lymph nodes and spleen, petechial hemorrhage in the kidney, hemorrhagic pneumonia, marked meningeal congestion, severe sub meningeal hemorrhage in the spinal cord, excessive cerebrospinal fluid retention, and muscular necrosis at the inoculated area. Microscopically, non suppurative meningoencephalitis with gliosis and perivascular cuffing in CNS, ganglioneuritis, necrohemorrhagic splenitis, necrotic hepatitis, tonsillitis and rhinitis, hemorrhagic or interstitial pneumonia, and non-suppurative myositis in the injected area were observed. Eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies were found in a variety of tissues the including the liver, kidney, adrenal gland, spleen, lymph nodes, tonsil, and lung. Ultrastructurally, virus particles were confirmed in nucleus and cytoplasms of pneumocytes around the necrotic areas.

In this study composite beam which is connected by stud shear connector analyze the behavior according to the degree of shear connection through composite beam experiment and three dimensional finite element analysis. Specimens have same compact section prescribed in EUROCODE4, and have difference with the degree of shear connection by arranging various stud dimensions to have full shear connection and partial interaction From the experiment and FEA results, evaluating the load carrying capacity and ultimate strength of composite beam when specimens behave full shear connection or partial interaction.

Transmissible venereal tumor(TVT) is a naturally occurring contagious neoplasm which can be transmitted by mechanical contact during mating in dogs and transplanted as intact viable cells to dogs and other members of canine family such as coyotes, jackals, wolves, and foxes. The incidence of this tumors tends to increase in Korean native Jindo dogs. This is probably due to the high density and unrestrained management system. With time, TVT reaches the maximum size and then tends to regress spontaneously unless individuals are immunologically compromised. It consists of different types of cells depending on the stage. In this study, 10 tumors were selected from Jindo dogs. These were histologically calssified into three stages; progressive, steady-state, and regressive. Mitotic figures were counted, and their histological appearance at each stage is compared with their DNA ploidy. Histologically, 5 tumor cases were calssed as the progressors, 3 cases as the steady-state tumors, and 2 cases as regressors. Progressors were composed of round cells with large nuclei containing conspicuous nucleoli and frequent mitotic figures. A few spindle-shaped cells and inflammatory cells including mainly lymphocytes, a few neutrophils and macrophages were also seen. In the steady-state tumors, there was an increased number of spindle shaped cells and mitotic figures were rare. Six tumors were diploid and four were aneuploid with the variation coefficient of 7.02. Two of five progressive tumors were aneuploid. Two of three steady-state tumors were aneuploid while both tumors at the regressive stage were diploid. Progressive and steady-state tumors had a much larger S/G2M fraction and a higher mitotic index than regressive tumors. Two tumors which persisted for more than one year were aneuploid. These results suggest that the progressive and steady-state tumors had more active cell division than the regressive neoplasms.

교량은 주행차량에 의하여 지속적이며 반복적인 변형에너지가 발생하며, 이러한 교량의 변형에너지를 압전소자를 이용하여 전기에너지로 변환 할 수 있다. 하지만 압전소자를 구조물에 부착하여 구조물의 운동에너지를 전기에너지로 변환하여 사용하기 위해서는 구조물에 작용하는 하중 및 하중에 따라 압전소자에서 발생하는 변형률 관계 등이 제시되어야 압전소자를 합리적으로 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 평가할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 압전소자를 교량 구조물에 적용하였을 때 발생하는 전압을 평가하기 위하여 강교량을 모사한 강합성 거더 교량 실험체를 제작하고 교량의 하중효과 등을 고려한 하중을 재하하고 이에 따라 압전소자에서 발생되는 전압을 평가하고 압전전압의 제안식과 실험결과를 비교하였다. In general, moving vehicles generate continuous and repetitive strain of energy on bridges. The strain energy can convert to electric energy due to its piezoelectric element. However, some factors should be considered in order to reasonably assess the feasibility such as load distribution applied on bridges and the relationship of strains generated according to loads. This study was carried out to estimate the generated voltage when piezoelectric elements were installed to a bridge. A steel-concrete composite specimen was fabricated and loads were applied, considering vehicle load-effects. As a result, the voltage generated in the element was evaluated and compared with the analysis equation of the piezoelectric effect.
닭 크립토스포리디움의 형태계측을 위한 전자현미경적 연구

Morphometrical analysis of chicken Cryptosporidium baileyi in various stages of life cycle in the bursa of Fabricius were carried out by electron microscope to establish a differential point for identification of C baileyi. By avidin-biotin complex method, protozoans of the bursa of Fabricius were identified Cryptosporidium spp. The size and area on each developmental stages of C baileyi, as measured by Morphomat 10 attached to electron microscope were as follows. Trophozoites' size with range of $3.21{\pm}0.70{\times}2.49{\pm}0.59{\mu}m$, area with range of $118.82{\pm}41.92{\mu}m^2$; meronts' size $3.99{\pm}1.07{\times}2.96{\pm}0.52{\mu}m$, area $210.11{\pm}57.11{\mu}m^2$; merozoites' size $1.98{\pm}0.43{\times}0.60{\pm}0.18{\mu}m$, area $24.10{\pm}5.97{\mu}m^2$; microgametes' size $1.36{\pm}0.83{\times}0.50{\pm}0.23{\mu}m$, area $20.23{\pm}6.73{\mu}m^2$; macrogametes' size $4.57{\pm}0.65{\times}4.02{\pm}0.55{\mu}m$, area $258.37{\pm}51.83{\mu}m^2$; oocytes' size $4.39{\pm}0.56{\times}3.44{\pm}0.50{\mu}m$, area $187.21{\pm}62.68{\mu}m^2$. In conclusion, the size and area on each developmental stages of Cryptosporidium baileyi is different from that of other Gryptosporidia spp. It suggests, with considering tissue tropism and life cycle, morphometrical analysis can be quite a good way to identify C baileyi.

Twelve colostrum-deprived piglets were inoculated oral1y with porcine epidemic diarrhea virus isolated from Korea. The piglets were euthanatized from at 12 hour postinoculation(PI) at 6-hour intervals. At 24 to 36 hours PI, all infected piglets showed severe yellowish to watery diarrhea, dehydration, depression, and anorexia. At necropsy, the intestinal wall looked thin, mesenteric vessels congested, and mesenteric lymph nodes edematous. The histological findings showed marked villous atrophy and fusion, severe degeneration of enterocytes and monomuclear cell infiltration in the lamina propria. On electron microscopy, villous epithelial cells of infected jejunum contained viral particles at 18 hour PI. The viral particles were pleomorphic spheres with a mean diameter of 95∼180nm including 18nm projections.

Pathological studies by light and electron microscope were carried out on the twenty piglets naturally affected by encephalomyocarditis virus infection. Gross findings included pale or yellow, small necrotic foci on myocardium, together with pulmonary edema and liver congestion in some cases. On light microscopy, nonsuppurative interstitial endocarcitis, epicarditis and myocarditis, myocardial infarction, and dystrophic calcification or fibtosis were observed in heart. Perivascular cuffings, gliosis and nonsuppurative meningitis were appeared in brain. Focal or diffuse necrosis with mononuclear cell infiltration in lacrimal gland and multifocal necrosis in liver were observed in some cases. Congestion and edema of lung, hyperemia, hemorrhage and deletion of lymphocytes of lymph nodes and spleen were recognized. On electron microscopy, severe swelling and vacuolization of mitochondria and sarcoplasmic reticulum, large intracellular vacuolation and edema, separation and fragmentation of myofibrils were observed. Virus particles were seen in the sarcoplasm of degenerated cardiac muscle cell.
