Purpose: McNamara and Delaire analyses are two commonly used analytic methods, yet, they differ in their theoretic concepts and different reference lines are used for ideal surgical prediction. Therefore, the use of different analytic methods may result in different surgical plans. The purpose of this study was to compare the anterior and posterior relationship of the maxilla and mandible by using McNamara and Delaire analysis. Methods: 30 Korean patients (15 male and 15 female) who had visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University, for dentofacial evaluation were studied by using McNamara's and Delaire's analyses. Results: On the maxillary analysis, 26 out of 30 patients (86.7%) were in accordance. On the mandibular analysis, 20 out of 30 patients (66.7%) were in accordance. On the maxillary analysis, McNamara's analysis showed an average of 0.36 mm greater amount of prognathism compared to Delaire's analysis, and this was not statistically significant. On the mandibular analysis, McNamara's analysis showed an average of 6.03 mm greater amount of prognathism compared to Delaire's analysis, and this was statistically significant. On the mandibular analysis, 26 out of 30 patients (86.7%) showed a greater amount of prognathism on McNamara's analysis compared to that of Delaire's analysis. The remaining 4 patients (13.3%) showed the same amount of prognathism on both analyses. Conclusion: These results may serve as a reference for surgeons when determining which analytic method is to be used for optimal surgical results.

This paper provides a methodology for extracting design data from the three-dimensional design software SolidWorks<SUP></SUP>®<SUP></SUP>, which isbased on the existing trochoid pump design equations thatare used by hydraulic field engineers. The data extracted from the SolidWorks<SUP></SUP>®<SUP></SUP> model are input to a hydraulic analysis software AMESim<SUP></SUP>®<SUP></SUP> model todetermine the design factors that can influence the properties of a trochoid pump. On the basis of the simulation results, this paper proposesa methodto reduce the flow loss by adjusting the outlet angle of the trochoid pump. This proposal was verified by using actual experimental results, which confirmed that adjusting the outlet angle can increase the flow rate. Hence,the results presented in this paper can contribute to the prototyping of a trochoid pump by reducing the cost associated with a trial-and-error design.

The relation of parental sociability and parenting behaviors (such as warmth and control) to shyness in children was examined. The subjects were 280 fifth-and sixth-grade children (139 boys and 141 girls). The data were analyzed by multiple regressions. Results showed that (1) maternal sociability was related to shyness in children: the more sociable the mothers, the less shy their children, and (2) paternal and maternal warmth were related to shyness in children: the warmer the fathers and mothers, the less shy their children.

Mucinous adenocarcinoma is rarely reported in head and neck region. In other organ, it usually occur in breast, gastrointenstinal tract and so on. The specific histologic findings of mucinous adenocarcinoma are the large amount of extracellular mucin and tumor cell nests such as floating in mucin pool. It may develop rarely in major or minor salivary gland, but only one case of mucinous adenocarcinoma originating from parotid gland was presented in south korea. We report a case of mucinous adenocarcinoma in the tongue base considered to develop from minor salivary gland with a review of literatures.

Tumors of the deep lobe of parotid gland are rare. These benign tumors have usually been treated by total parotidectomy, which has functional and esthetic side effects. Recently, there has been a trend for operations of parotid gland benign tumors to be less radical and selective deep lobe parotidectomy has been introduced. This technique preserves the superficial lobe and facial nerve when tumor is located in the deep lobe. Selective deep lobe parotidectomy preserves parotid salivary function, minimizes the incidence of facial nerve damage and gustatory sweating (Frey’s syndrome) and improves cosmetic outcome. We report a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the deep lobe that was successfully treated by selective deep lobe parotidectomy with satisfactory result.
2006년~2009년 새만금호에서 식물플랑크톤 군집과 환경요인의 변화

본 연구는 한국해양과학기술원의 기본연구과제 (과제번호 PE98988)에 의해 수행되었음. Between May 2006 and November 2009, we investigated the relationship between fluctuations in environmental factors and phytoplankton communities in Saemangeum Artificial Lake, South Korea. Nutrient concentrations in the lake increased because of the inflow of water from Mankyung and Dongjin Rivers during the summer rainy season; in particular, high concentrations were detected at an inner zone close to the estuaries. During the summer rainy season, salinity at the inner zone reduced more rapidly than that at the other zones, and it was similar to the changes in nutrient concentrations. Variations in phytoplankton communities were caused by fluctuations in environmental factors: the abundance of phytoplankton at the inner zone was higher than that at the other zones. Diatoms were the dominant species in the phytoplankton communities. A small centric diatom, Skeletonema costatum like species, was predominant, with a mean abundance of 19.5% in Saemangeum lake. Because of accelerated eutrophication in the lake, phytoplankton abundance increased continuously and the total number of species present in the community decreased. In particular, some dinoflagellates could intermittently cause red tides during low temperature and salinity conditions (at the inner zone). In 2006~2007, a red tide-forming dinoflagellate, Prorocentrum minimum, was the predominant species, while Heterocapsa triquetra, Karlodinium veneficum, and Heterocapsa rotundata were the newly recorded species in late 2008 to early 2009. Therefore, the dynamics of phytoplankton communities under the perennially eutrophic conditions in Saemangeum lake appear to be primarily affected by changes in water temperature and salinity. In particular, the growth of harmful algae may have been accelerated by the low salinity and temperature conditions during the spring season at the inner zone.
