Glyceollins Modulate Tumor Development and Growth in a Mouse Xenograft Model of Human Colon Cancer in a p53-Dependent Manner

Glyceollins are soybean-derived phytoalexins that induce the nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway, which is involved in the detoxification of carcinogens and the removal of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recent studies, however, have indicated that Nrf2 induction stimulates the development of pre-existing tumors and confers resistance to chemotherapy by elevating drug metabolism and by efficient scavenging of ROS produced by the Warburg effect, which is regulated, in turn, by the p53 tumor suppressor. This study, therefore, aimed at examining whether glyceollins could accelerate tumor growth in the presence of active p53, using a xenograft BALB/c nude mouse model transplanted subcutaneously with p53 wild-type and p53 null HCT116 human colon cancer cells. Glyceollins were orally administered at a dose of either 1 or 4 mg/kg body weight after xenografting HCT116 cells, and tumor growth and volume were monitored for 2 weeks. A high dose of glyceollins resulted in a significant increase in the average volume of p53 wild-type HCT116 xenografts, but not of p53 null HCT116 xenografts. However, a low dose of glyceollins had no effect on the tumor growth regardless of p53 presence. Interestingly, antioxidant enzymes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase, were prominently induced by glyceollins in p53 wild-type xenografts, compared with p53 null xenografts. These results suggest that a high dose of glyceollins possibly promotes the growth of p53 wild-type colon cancer through activation of the Nrf2-mediated signaling pathway and, in particular, strong induction of HO-1 expression. Therefore, the consumption of Nrf2 activators, including glyceollins, should be carefully monitored for patients suffering from certain types of cancer and/or receiving chemotherapy.

In this study, we evaluated the humor comprehension abilities of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) by using images and captions. We examined language and model differences based on the accuracy of humor selection through multiple-choice questions. As far as English is concerned, publicly available datasets were utilized. But, in case of Korean, we manually curated image-text pairs on ‘Jemok Hakwon’, which features cleverly captioned images. We investigated whether LMMs could select humorous captions relevant to the image or reject irrelevant ones. Language comparison between English and Korean revealed poorer performance for Korean, which is attributed to cultural elements based on error analysis. In the model- by-model comparison between GPT-4V and Claude 3, GPT-4V exhibited superiority. But both models performed in the low 50-60% range. This relatively low performance indicates that humor comprehension, demanding high cognitive abilities, is still challenging for artificial intelligence. This study is significant in that it constructs and publicly releases a Korean humor dataset based on Image-Text, enabling quantitative evaluation of state-of-the-art LMMs’ humor comprehension across languages and models. Through this study, we aim to stimulate further research measuring the upper limit of artificial intelligence using abstract information.

중국 어머니의 양육방식(온정, 통제)과 사회적 유능감의 관계에서 어머니-유아 상호작용의 직렬다중매개효과

본 연구는 중국 어머니의 양육방식(온정, 통제)과 사회적 유능감의 관계에서 어머니-유아 상호작용의 직렬다중매개효과를 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적을 실현하기 위하여 중국에 국적을 두고 거주하는 어머니 100명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS 26.0과 PROCESS macro 4.2.0 프로그램을 이용하여 6번 모형으로 분석을 실시하였다.첫번째 연구결과로 온정적 양육태도와 유아 사회적 유능감 사이에 어머니 상호작용과 유아 상호작용이 직렬다중매개하는 것으로 확인되었으며, 두 번째 연구결과로 통제적 양육태도와 유아 사회적 유능성의 관계에서 어머니 상호작용과 유아 상호작용의 개별 매개효과 모두 유의미하였고 직렬다중매개효과 또한 유의미하였다. 이러한 결과는 앞으로 중국 어머니의 양육방식 관련연구의 기초자료 및 이론적 근거와 시사점을 제공하는데 그 의의가 있다고 본다.

우리나라 장기요양서비스 질을 제고하기 위한 구체적 방안을 도출하고 장기요양시설에 대한 인증제 도입의 가능성 및 효과를 예측해보기 위하여 실제로 다른 나라에서 이와 관련하여 어떠한 정책적 개입을 하고 있는지를 살펴보는 과정은 중요하며 본 원고에서는 특히 미국의 사례를 심층적으로 검토하였다. 미국에서는 장기요양시설에 대한 평과결과를 비용상환과 연계시킴으로써 장기요양시설에서 평가를 중요하게 인식하고 궁극적으로는 서비스 질을 제고하기 위한 노력을 더 기울일 수 있도록 유도하고 있다. 즉 연방정부가 제시하는 서비스 질 관련기준을 실제로 적용하고 각 장기요양시설에서 이를 준수하도록 감시하는 역할은 주정부가 담당하고 있다. 물론 연방정부의 규제를 각 주정부가 적용함에 있어 나타나는 비일관성이 문제가 되는 등 한계는 존재하며 이와 같은 점에 착안하여 미국의 장기요양시설에 대한 규제는 정부기관의 역할을 조언자 혹은 컨설턴트로 확대하는 방향으로 무게중심을 이동시키고 있다. 또한 정부의 규제 이외에도 민간에서 인증제를 실시한다든지, 시설비교 웹사이트와 P4P 방식 등을 통해 정부가 아닌 시장에서 서비스 질을 제고하려는 접근 등 다양한 방법을 동원하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 미국의 사례를 바탕으로 우리나라 장기요양서비스 질을 제고하기 위하여 관련부처, 건강보험공단, 지방자치단체, 민간비영리단체, 장기요양시설 평가단의 역할에 대한 충분한 논의 및 합의가 선행되어야 할 것이다. The purpose of this article is to examine how the U.S. government tries to control and improve the quality of long term care. While federal government imposes regulatory standards on long term care facilities, state governments actually apply them by conducting nursing home inspections. The U.S. government acknowledges the fact that the way regulatory standards are enforced in each state might vary and there needs to be more consistency. Also, private sector has been involved in the realm of quality control and improvement of long term care by creating a nursing home compare website or running its own certification process. It is important to reach a mutual agreement on the ways of improving quality of care in long term care facilities by opening up discussions of multiple stakeholders before introducing the long term care certification process at national level.

남자대학생의 성역할갈등이 이성관계만족에 미치는 영향에서 관계진솔성의 매개효과: 교제기간에 따른 차이분석

본 연구는 한국 대학생 남성의 성역할 갈등이 이성관계에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 성역할 갈등을 경험하는 남성의 관계진솔성에 대한 이해를 돕고, 남성의 이성관계 만족을 유지하는데 필요한 기초 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 남성 성역할갈등과 이성관계 만족의 관계에서 관계진솔성의 매개효과를 알아봄으로써 대학생 남성의 이성관계 만족을 높일 수 있는 상담적 개입을 위한 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 본 연구에서는 2018년 9월부터 10월까지 약 2개월간 G광역시 대학교에 재학 중인 남자 대학생 420명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였다. 설문지는 인적사항, 남성 성역할갈등, 관계진솔성, 이성관계 만족도의 총 3가지 척도로 구성되었다. 설문을 실시하기 전, 참가자에게 연구 목적과 설문 응답 방법, 참가자의 권리 및 비밀보장 등을 설명한 후 동의서를 통해 동의를 구하였으며, 설문시간은 약 15분 정도 소요되었다. 연구자가 직접 설문 안내 및 배부 후 수거하였다. 이 중 불성실하게 응답한 자료와 현재 이성교제 중이지 않은 206부를 제외하고 총 214부의 자료를 결과 분석에 활용하였다. The purpose of this study is to verify the mediated effect of the relationship authenticity in the relationship between gender role conflict and romantic relationship satisfaction of male university students. A total of 420 male university students in G district were surveyed and 214 were used for analysis. The mediating effects of the relationship authenticity between gender role conflict and romantic relationship satisfaction in male university students are as follows. First, there was a significant negative correlation between gender role conflict, relationship authenticity and romantic relationship satisfaction, and there was a positive correlation between relationship authenticity and romantic relationship satisfaction. Second, one-way analysis of the major variables over the relationship period showed significant differences in romantic relationship satisfaction and relationship authenticity as the longer the relationship period. Third, the research model was verified according to the relationship period, and both the initial and later period of dating were fully mediated. These results mean that it is important for a man with a high gender role conflict to express himself sincerely in a romantic relationship. In the consultation scene, it could provide an intervention that would improve the relationship authenticity of a shorter-term approach, prior to a gender role conflict that would be difficult to restructure in a short period of time. Finally, we discussed suggestions for significance and further study based on this research result.
