인삼염유리는 전자부품분야에서 저온소성유리로 그 활용범위가 넓은 편이나 높은 열팽창계수로 알칼리 산화물 등을 첨가하여 그 특성을 조정하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 P$_2$O$_{5}$-SnO-ZnO-SiO$_2$/B$_2$O$_3$ 유리계에 대하여 열적특성으로 선팽창계수와 유리전이온도, 용융온도 등을 측정하여 그들 값의 상관관계를 고찰하였다. 이러한 결과는 다른 인삼염 유리와 비교하였을때 선팽창계수와 유리전이온도의 곱이 일정한 값으로 나타나서 이들 중의 하나의 값으로부터 간접적으로 다른 변수를 측정 할 수 있는 한 방법이 될 수 있다. Phosphate glasses known for low melting temperature glasses in electrical parts has been recently used in wide area with modification of thermal properties using alkali oxides. It is our purpose to find a correlation between thermal expansion coefficient, glass transition temperature and melting temperature through investigating thermal properties in P$_2$O$\sub$5/-SnO-ZnO-SiO$_2$/B$_2$O$_3$. As a result, the product of thermal expansion coefficient and the glass transition temperature in the glasses is found to be a constant value would be a unique value for knowing one of thermal properties.

We investigated the effect of ZnO filler on the microstructure of $BaO-B_2O_3-ZnO-P_2O_5$ glass system to find an etching mechanism of barrier ribs. The sintering behavior of composites heated in the temperature range $560-600^{\circ}C$ was studied by volumetric shrinkage rate and microstructure. The etching test was carried out in $HNO_3$ solution at $50^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The volumetric shrinkage of sintered sample decreased with the increased firing temperature because of the formation of two crystals. Glass and ZnO filler react forming the $BaZn_2(PO_4)_2$ crystal phases during the sintering process. Etching phenomenon of sintered samples by $HNO_3$ showed that the $BaZn_2(PO_4)_2$ crystal phase was strongly leached compared to glass matrix, crystal phases and fillers. Therefore, the control of interface by condition of sintering is so important to achieve etching effect in barrier ribs.

Glasses in the $Bi_{2}O_3-SiO_2-ZnO$ glasses system were examined as a potential replacement for lead-oxide glass frits with low firing temperature ($500\sim600^{\circ}C$) for the dielectric layer of a plasma display panel (PDP). The glasses were evaluated for glass transition temperature($T_{g}$) and thermal expansion coefficient(${\alpha}$). After forming transparent thick films by a screen-printing method, it was evaluated for the optical properties. The transmittance of thick films fired at $500-600^{\circ}C$ showed above $80\%$, which was not dependent on the firing temperature. As a result, many pores were observed at samples fired at low temperature, while the number of pores from samples prepared at high temperature decreased and the pores size increased.

To produce a fine structure with uniform surface of barrier ribs in PDP, acid etching process has been used in manufacture process. It is necessary to understand the mechanism of etching, particularly on the interface of ceramic fillers and matrix glass. We investigated the effect of ceramic fillers (ZnO, $Al_2O_3$) on the microstructure of borate glass system to find an etching mechanism of barrier ribs. The barrier ribs was etched with several steps, dissolving a small amount of residual glass, taking out alumina fillers, and removing a cluster type of ZnO fillers and glass matrix.
