Background: Korean mistletoe (Viscum album) extract has been found to posses immunostimulatory activity. In this study, Korean mistletoe extract, M11C (non-lectin components), was used to know whether this extract might activate mouse peritoneal macrophages to produce interleukin $1{\beta}$ (IL-$1{\beta}$). Methods: Hemagglutination assay was carried out to examine whether M11C contained a lectin or not. To know the effect of M11C on the production of IL-$1{\beta}$, the macrophages were treated by the M11C, and then collected the supernatant (M11C stimulated macrophages-conditioned media; MMCM). MMCM was analyzed for the IL-$1{\beta}$ quantification and mRNA expression by means of ELISA and RT-PCR, respectively. Results: Maximum effective dose and time of M11C on IL-$1{\beta}$ production from macrophages were $20{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and 8 hours, respectively. This ELISA data was reconfirmed by immunoblotting assay. indicating that M11C is a good candidate for an immunomodulator. The dose and time dependent effects of M11C on the expression of IL-$1{\beta}$ mRNA from macrophages was also shown in expression of mRNA detected by RT-PCR. Treatment dose and time for the maximum expression of IL-$1{\beta}$ mRNA were $20{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and 4 hours, respectively. Maximum gene expression of IL-$1{\beta}$ was much earlier than maximum production of it. Conclusion: As results, Korean mistletoe extract, M11C, may be used for an immunomodulator. This will be able to make up for and solve the problems caused by existent immunoagent with many adverse effects through many other studies in future including one molecule extraction.

Tilt rotor aircraft can take off and land vertically and cruise faster than any other helicopter. A scaled flight demonstration model of a tilt rotor aircraft has been developed by KARI. Because the flight characteristics of tilt rotor are not well known, the developed scaled model would be helpful to evaluate flight control algorithm of a full scale aircraft. The tethered hover test has been performed in order to improve hover flight characteristics of tilt rotor aircraft prior to flight test of the small scaled model. During the tethered hover test, the performance of rotor speed governor, rate SAS (Stability Augmentation System) and control surface mixers have been evaluated. We expect that the results of real flight hover test would be quite same as tethered hover test. Therefore the tethered hover test results will reduce the risk of flight test properly by fixing some of hidden problems which might occur during the flight test. This paper presents the results of tethered hover test in detail and shows how it could be final ground test before flight test. The control mixer gain and rate SAS feedback gains were modified in order to get higher controllability and stability during the tethered hover flight. The rotor governor showed that it could keep rotor RPM constant with very small deviation even during severe pilot collective input change. The tethered hover test results gave pilot and engineers confirmation and experience about the scheduled flight test.
직장암환자에서 지속성 경막외차단 후 발생한 경막외 농양

Although the incidence of epidural abscess is low, patient requiring continuous epidural analgesia for control of acute and chronic pain is increasing rapidly. Therefore we anticipate more frequent encounters with epidural abscess patients in future. Once epidural abscess formation begins, early diagnosis and treatment is very important to prevent permanent neurologic damage. The authors encountered a case of epidural abscess after continuous epidural analgesia for control of perineal pain due to rectal cancer. Forty-eight hours after the block, patient began to suffer severe low back pain, local tenderness, and fever. So the catheter was removed and culture sensitivity test was done with blood and local drainage. The test results identified methicillin susceptible staphylococcus aureus. Antibiotics were administered. Ten days after the block, left ankle jerk disappeared, and force of dorsiflexion of great toe decreased, but numbness or anesthesia appeared at L5 dermatome. Laminectomy was performed, and abscess and necrotic fat material was removed from left L nerve root. The patient was discharged 12 days after operation without any neurologic sequalae.

This study was carried out to provide some principles for the improvement of clinical training in medical students. To investigate the current problems in our systems of clinical training, we made sev eral questionnaires and distributed to the individuals of each survey groups. Senior medical students (59), interns (31), residents (14) and medical staffs (15) were included in these survey groups. The summarized current problems in clinical training are as follows : 1) lack of personnels in charge of clinical training, 2) lack of objective criteria for the evaluation of clinical training, 3) lack of involvement of students in clinical patient management, 4) needs of improvement in contents of clinical education, 5) lack of strict execution of education program, 6) lack of places for clinical education, 7) lack of interests in clinical training of the staffs, 8) needs of the orientation for the students about hospital systems. With this summary we held workshop for the staffs (29) in charge of clinical education. The summarized methods to improve clinical education were to promote interests in clinical education of staffs, to select the personnel in charge of clinical education, to make assignment of patient to the students, to let the student write patient progress note, to improve evaluation method for clinical education, to orient student about clinical education.

스마트무인기의 기본 비행성능 파악과 비행제어 알고리즘의 검증을 위하여 40% 축소형 비행체를 개발하였다. 축소형 비행체는 실물기와 유사한 형태의 짐발 허브와 드라이브 장치를 채택하였으며 강제 공랭 방식의 왕복엔진을 장착하였다. 축소형 비행체 주요 부품에 대한 다양한 시험을 수행하였고 조립된 축소형 비행체의 지상시험 및 호버링 시험을 통하여 주요 성능과 기계적 내구성을 확인하였다. The 40% scaled vehicle of Smart UAV has been developed for the investigation of basic flight characteristics and the verification of flight control algorithm. The similar gimbal hub and drive train with the full scale UAV were implemented and a forced air cooling reciprocating engine was installed. The various kind of tests were conducted for the major components of the vehicle. The important performance and mechanical endurance of the fabricated vehicle were identified by ground and hovering test.

본 논문은 틸트-덕트 수직이착륙 비행로봇을 위한 동력계통의 설계, 개발 및 시험 결과를 기술한다. 본 연구에서는 R/C 모터보트에 적용되는 소형 수냉식 엔진을 이용하여 비행로봇의 탑재 및 비행체와 인터페이스에 대한 하드웨어 개발 사항을 기술하였다. 또한 지상시험과 안전줄 시험을 통해 비행체의 추력 성능을 측정하고 동력계통의 내구성 결과가 제시되었다. Power system of the tilt-duct VTOL aerial robot has been developed. This paper focuses on the power train with small liquid-type engine for the R/C boat and presents the test results with design procedures. The hardware aspects of the power system include details about the hardware configurations for the interfaces with the vehicle. The ground test and tether test for measuring the thrust performance of vehicle and evaluating the endurance of power train carried out.
교반막대 추출법과 GC/MS-MS를 이용한 수중의 자외선 차단제 분석

A highly sensitive analytical method based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) technique and gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS-MS) has been developed, allowing the simultaneous multi-analyte determination of seven UV filters in water samples. The stir bar coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was added to 40 mL of water sample at pH 3 and stirred at 1,100 rpm for 120 min. Other SBSE parameters (salt effect and presence of organic solvent) were optimised. The method shows good linearity (coefficients > 0.990) and reproducibility (RSD < 12.9%). The extraction efficiencies were above 84% for all the compounds. The limits of detections (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) were 2.1∼8.6 ng/L and 6.8∼27.5 ng/L, respectively. The developed method offers the ability to detect 8 UV filters at ultra-low concentration levels with only 40 mL of sample volume. Matrix effects in tap water, river water, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) final effluent water and seawater were investigated and it was shown that the method is suitable for the analysis of trace level of 7 UV filters except of benzophenone (BP). The method developed in the present study has the advantage of being rapid, simple, high-sensitive and both user and environmentally friendly.
