Cantilever-Type Traction Appliance for Mandibular First Permanent Molars with Eruption Disturbances

하악 제1대구치의 맹출 장애는 매우 드물지만, 발생할 경우 교합 발육에 다양한 문제를 초래할 수 있으므로, 하악 제1대구치의 맹출 장애의 조기 진단과 치료는 매우 중요하다. 이번 연구의 목적은 맹출 장애를 가진 하악 제1대구치의 두 증례에 대한 치료 방법을 제시하는 것이다. 하악 제2유구치를 고정원으로 하는 cantilever-type의 spring을 추가한 견인 장치를 적용하여 매복된 제1대구치 견인을 시행했다. 따라서, 건전한 제2유구치가 존재하는 환자에서 이 장치가 짧은 시간 안에 매복된 하악 제1대구치의 정상적인 맹출을 유도할 수 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. Eruption disturbances of the mandibular first molars can cause multiple problems in occlusal development although they are extremely rare. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent complications associated with eruption disturbances. The present case report describes the treatment of two cases of eruption disturbances of the mandibular first permanent molar. A fixed appliance composed of a cantilever spring with mandibular second deciduous molar as an anchor tooth was used to tract the impacted mandibular first permanent molar. The success of both cases shows that this novel traction appliance can be used to induce the eruption of an impacted mandibular first permanent molar within a short time in patients with intact mandibular second deciduous molar as an anchor tooth.

Learning strategy is a very important factor for successful language learning and self-regulated learning. For this reason knowing strategy leads the learners to the success of language learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the aspects of using 6 graders’ learning strategies when using the CD-ROM during strategy based 16 period-language instruction. Before and after the classes, the survey was conducted to examine the aspects of using the strategies. The questionnaire was built up on the basis of Oxford(1990)’s SILL and Bickel and Truscello(1996)’s learning strategies. The results revealed that the use of the learning strategy increased. Their use of the strategies was also analyzed in terms of students’ gender and language level. There were no significant relationships between gender and learning strategies. But, the female students used more frequently memory strategies and metacognitive strategies than the male students. It was also found that there were no significant relationships between students’ English level and the aspects of using learning strategies. The strategy instruction gave a positive influence on the students’ attitude toward English learning. The results of the study imply the great importance of students’ awareness of strategic efficacy and the need to develop new materials teaching methods that may encourage students to use the appropriate strategies more frequently.
A Study of the Moodle System and its Application to Language Learning

As the development of e-learning technology has shifted educational paradigm, the innovative teaching and learning methodology using social e-learning software has been suggested. Technology-assisted instruction supports self-regulated learning, enabling learners to engage in interactive class activities. Among the social e-learning software, Moodle, known for its many interactive and social features, has been implemented as an instruction and learning system at the university level. Nevertheless, it has not been investigated yet how the Moodle system is being effectively utilized to support self-regulated learning. So this study aims to examine how the Moodle system functions to support interactive and self-regulated learning for pre-service English teachers on the basis of their feedback about the Moodle-based activities In addition, the analysis was also conducted to find out which features of Moodle reflect constructivist pedagogy. The result of the study shows that Moodle-assisted instruction benefited students to have more chances to interact with their peers and their instructor. It was also found that the versatile features of the system have a lot of potential to be utilized effectively as a supplementary tool for language learning. It is recommended that for optimal outcome from Moodle-based course, students’ positive attitudes toward technology-based instruction and robust technological environments for operating the system should be set.
A Study of Multimedia-assited Vocabulary Instruction Methods for College Students

Acquiring vocabulary knowledge has great impact on the understanding of text in EFL context. Nevertheless, vocabulary instruction has been put aside as a subsidiary subject of other language skills. In addition to, the meaning-focused language teaching gives way to the need of developing more effective vocabulary teaching methods. This study aims to develop the multimedia-assisted vocabulary instruction by analyzing the results of the survey about students' attitude toward the instruction and the experimental instruction. As a result, the principles to accomplish the better outcome of the multimedia-assisted vocabulary instruction are suggested.
