Gelatin nanoparticles derived from bovine or porcine have been developed as various types of drug delivery system, and they need to be cross-linked to maintain their physicochemical properties in aqueous environments. Although gelatin is a widely used material in pharmaceutical industries, the safety issue of animal-origin gelatins, such as transmissible mad cow disease and anaphylaxis, remains to be solved. The purpose of this study was to prepare type A gelatin (GA) nanoparticles by modified, two-step, desolvation method and compare the toxicity of the resulting GA nanoparticles with recombinant human gelatin (rHG) nanoparticles. The GA nanoparticles were characterized, and drug loading and release pattern were measured. FITC-BSA, a model protein, was efficiently loaded in the nanoparticles and then released in a biphasic and sustained release pattern without an initial burst. In particular, the cell viability of the GA nanoparticles was less than that of the rHG nanoparticles. This finding suggests that rHG nanoparticles should be considered as an alternative to animal-origin gelatin nanoparticles in order to minimize the safety problems.

The electronic dispenser is composed of electronic part and mechanical part. Electronic part is consisted of input keypad, micro-controller, display module, and pump module. In this paper we designed micro-controller for electronic part. The micro-controller controls display module and pump module. The display module is composed by LCD device, and the pump module is composed by motor device. The micro-controller for an electronic dispenser is designed by VHDL. We used WX12864AP1 for the LCD device and SPS 20 for the stepping motor. Also, the micro-controller is designed by Altera Quartus tool and verified with Agent 2000 Design-kit using APEX20K Device. In this paper, we present possibility to adopt of biotechnology field through designing of one-chip controller for an electronic dispenser.

본 논문에서는 전자 디스펜서(dispenser)용 제어기를 단일 칩으로 설계하였다. 전자 디스펜서는 전자부분과 기계부분으로 구성되며, 전자부분은 이력 키패드, 제어기, 디스플레이 모듈과 펌프모듈로 구성된다. 본 논문에서 설계한 제어기는 LCD 소자와 모터 펌프를 제어하며 VHDL을 이용하여 설계하였다. LCD 소자로서 WX12864AP1을 사용하였으며, 스테핑 모터로는 SPS20을 사용하였다. 이 제어기는 Altera사의 Quartus 툴을 사용하여 설계 후, Agent 2000 설계 키트와 APEX20K 소자를 사용하여 LCD 모듈과 모터모듈에 연결하여 동작 검증함으로, 동작이 원활히 이루어짐을 확인하였다. 본 논문에서는 전자 디스펜서의 제어기 설계를 통해 전자 디스펜서의 전용 칩을 ASIC으로 구현하여 바이오기술 분야의 기기에 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다. Three similarities (i.e., geometrical similarity, kinematic similarity and dynamic similarity) between a prototype and model must be satisfied to perform an experiment for a floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). For dynamic similarity, most of the model tests in ocean engineering basins are performed based on the Froude number, so the scale effect for the wind turbine of an FOWT occurs by different Reynolds numbers between the prototype and model. In this study, various model test techniques for overcoming the scale effect of the wind turbine part of the FOWT are investigated. Firstly, model test techniques using simple approaches are reviewed, and the advantages and disadvantages of the simple approaches are summarized. Secondly, the model test techniques in recent projects that apply improved approaches are introduced including advantages and disadvantages. Finally, new approaches applying digitalization are reviewed, and the characteristics of the new approaches are introduced.

Cellulose nanocrystal (CNC), known as one of the most abundant terrestrial resources of nanocellulose, has excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. In addition, since CNC has various properties such as ultrafine structure, high transparency, high purity, high crystallinity and high strength, it is being applied in various fields such as pharmaceuticals and food. In this study, we developed CNC/Zinc/DNA (CZD) nanocomplex using a method to incorporate CNC into DNA without the need for chemical conjugations by utilizing a ligand-to-metal charge transfer transition (LMCT), which occurs between divalent metal ions and the phosphate groups in CNC and DNA. Divalent metal ions should be first introduced to DNA for application of the LMCT transition to the incorporation of DNA into CNC. We optimized the conditions for CZD formation and confirmed gene transfection efficacy in the myocardial and skin cells. DNA was effectively delivered into cells by CZD and highly expressed in the cell. This complex using CNC might be useful as a gene delivery system without chemical conjugation.
