Purpose: Body fluid status of patients in an emergency room environment is a very important parameter during clinical evaluation. In this study, we wanted to know the relationship between the diameter of the inferior vena cava and the diameter of the (IVC/Ao index) and central venous pressure (CVP) in hemodynamically unstable patients. Methods: This study was done prospectively in an emergency medical center of a hospital from January to August,2009. We compared the diameter of the IVC, the diameter of inferior vena cava/the body surface area index (IVC/BSA index), the IVC/Ao index, and other variables. Before and after hydration of patients with a systolic blood pressure less than 90 mmHg and who had a central venous catheter in place. Then, we calculated the correlation coefficient for ΔCVP, ΔIVC/Ao index, and other indexes. Results: Fifty-nine patients were enrolled in the study. The mean IVC diameter before hydration was 14.3±2.7 mm; it was 15.6±2.7 mm after hydration (p<0.01). The IVC/BSA index before hydration was 8.75±1.72 and 9.55±1.79after hydration (p<0.01). The IVC/Ao index before hydration was 1.08±0.23; it was 1.16±0.25 after hydration (p<0.01). The correlation coefficient for ΔCVP and ΔIVC was 0.37(p<0.01); for ΔCVP vs. the ΔIVC/BSA index it was 0.37(p<0.01); for the ΔIVC/Ao index it was 0.27 (p=0.04). Conclusion: CVP has a higher correlation to IVC diameter and to IVC/BSA index than to the IVC/Ao index. Hence, we should estimate the IVC/Ao index and use that estimate along with other indexes to evaluate body fluid status when dealing with hemodynamically unstable patients.

Out of Japanese songs, Hatanosakenokimi's song, which is contained in the record of Yuryaku Denno in the book of history, "Nihonshoki", is one of the songs most related with korean people from the point of view of the writer, the cause of playing and the background of the song. There are many reasons for its being concerned with korean people, First, the writer or the song is a noble man of Silla origin. Tsukenomita, a protagonist of the carpenter execution incident, the motive of composing the song, is also a carpenter of Silla origin. Not only the musical instrument traces the descent of Hyungeum(a kind of harp of the Silla Period) and Gayageum(a Korean instrument with 12 strings) but also the theoretical background of Hatanosakenokimi's song is descended from Silla. In this work, Hatanosakenokimi and Tsukenomita show us the aspects of the top and the bottom of social way and living conditions of Korean people who went to Japan many years ago. There were many educated and intellectual Korean people who went to Japan at that time. They were known as noble men and wielded power on the side of the kind. They were also messangers of the continental advanced skills. But they were not safe in their life and no right to choose a vocation at their will. They were like slaves. These two figures of Korean people call be seen in this paper. Hatanosakenokimi plays the zither in order to prevail upon the king and prevent the king from executing the carpenter. The playing of the zither enables Tsukenomita to be saved. This transmitted song is an expression of a charm. Nevertheless, whenever we think this kind of song is often found in Silla and that the representative instrument, Goto, out of old Japanese instruments is a Hyungeum or a Gayageum can't help stressing the meaning of the song. In the background of this song we can find the excellent skill of the Silla carpenter and tile outstanding skill is a wonderful one in Japan. It is worth while to examine the record as to Korean people contained In "Nihonshoki" and to investigate the fact from the Korean point of view. This study clearly allows us to understand the relationship between Koreans and Japanese in the old society.

The "Baek-jo" group plaited a leading role in the process of forming modern Korean literature. They have contributed to reforming tile old history of Korean literature, by advocating romanticism and symbolism in poetry, and realism in fiction. In this point of view, they have contributed to forming modern Korean literature as pioneers. But most of the results of the past researchers on them are nothing but partial and fragmental ones. Therefore, this study is aimed at tracing their whole outline, by investigating how their group was formed and their background and literary properties of each member. At the same time I have put emphasis on clearing out the historical significance, by analyzing the boundary and possibility of their generation. I hope this study can serve as a foundation stone and an incentive to further an acadedic approach to the history of modern korean literature.
지속성외래복막투석 환자에서 발생한 Trichosporon beigelii 복막염

Fungal peritonitis is one of the leading causes of patients dropout from continuous ambluatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) therapy. Although the most causative agents of peritonits associated with CAPD are bacteria, fungi are implicated in up to 10% of cases. The most common organism of fungal peritonitis is Candida specises, but Trichosporon beigelii was reported as a rare causative agent of fungal peritonitis. We experienced a case of CAPD peritonitis by Trichosporon beigelii, which was treated with CAPD catheter removal, and antifungal agents with amphotericin B and fluconazole. Thus, we report our experience of CAPD peritonitis caused by Trichosporon beigelli and review of the literature. (Korean J Nephrol 2004;23(3):518-522)
폐알루미늄-산 수화반응을 통해 발생된 부산물을 이용한 응집제의 성능 평가

응집공정은 진흙입자, 조류, 색소 등 탁도의 원인이 되는 물질 중 콜로이드 상태의 불순물을 제거하기 위한 공정으로 오염된 지표수나 각종 폐수처리에 많이 사용되고 있다. 현재 응집공정에서 많이 이용되는 것은 PAC(poly aluminium chloride), Alum 등으로, 최근 주 원료로 사용되는 알루미늄의 가격상승으로 인하여 경제성이 낮아지고 있다. 이를 극복하고자 저렴하고 지속적인 공급이 가능한 응집제 생산기술에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 본 연구에서는 일상생활에서 발생되는 폐 알루미늄과 HCl 용액의 수화반응을 통해 발생된 부산물의 응집성능을 Jar test를 통해 평가하였다. 응집제는 Alum, 폐 알루미늄 포장재 부산물, 폐 알루미늄 캔 부산물을 사용했으며, 하수처리장 유입수 및 2차 처리수를 이용해 Jar test를 수행하였다. 응집제성능을 평가하기 위해 유입수는 탁도 및 TSS(Total Suspended Solids), 유출수는 탁도 및 PO<sub>4</sub>-P를 측정하였다. 실험결과 유입수의 탁도 및 TSS는 10 mg-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>/L 주입량에서 각각 2.71, 2.73, 2.75 NTU 및 8, 12, 4 mg-TSS/L, 유출수의 탁도 및 PO<sub>4</sub>-P는 6.81 mg-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>/L 주입량에서 0.56, 0.55, 0.68 NTU 및 0.18, 0.16, 0.18 mg-PO<sub>4</sub>-P/L로 응집제간 유사한 결과가 나타났다. 실험결과 일반 응집제 및 부산물 활용 응집제간 동일한 성능을 보이는 것으로 나타났으며, 결론적으로 수화반응을 통해 발생된 부산물이 일반 응집제를 대체할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
