Purpose: The current treatment option of bimalleolar equivalent fractures is open reduction and internal fixation of lateral malleolus followed by syndesmotic screw fixation of syndesmosis or deltoid ligament augmentation. On the other hand, there is still debate using deltoid ligament augmentation technique. This study compared the clinical results of deltoid ligament augmentation and syndesmosis screw fixation in bimalleolar equivalent fractures. Materials and Methods: From 2007 to 2022, this study retrospectively compared 31 patients who underwent deltoid ligament augmentation with fibula fixation with 12 patients who underwent syndesmosis fixation for bimalleolar equivalent fractures. The clinical results were compared by measuring visual analogue scale (VAS) score, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score, and ankle range of motion 12 months after surgery. The radiological results were compared by measuring medial clear space, tibiofibular overlap, and tibiofibular clear space before and after surgery. The postoperative complications were compared. Results: The post-operative AOFAS score, the VAS score, and the ankle range of motion were similar in the two groups. The radiological results showed a similar medial clear space, tibiofibular overlap, and tibiofibular clear space in the two groups before and after surgery. In addition, there were no postoperative complications in the group that underwent deltoid ligament augmentation, and one screw break and superficial infection were observed in each of the patient groups that had undergone trans-syndesmosis screw fixation. Conclusion: Clinically good results could be obtained despite only deltoid ligament augmentation being performed alone after fibular fracture fixation in bimalleolar equivalent fractures. In addition, if only deltoid ligament augmentation is performed alone rather than transsyndesmosis screw fixation, there is little possibility of misalignment and no risk of screw breakage or the need for additional procedures to remove the screws. In conclusion, deltoid ligament repair without syndesmosis screw fixation could be viable for treating bimalleolar equivalent fractures.

As increasing the requirement for low carbon technology, it has become very important to reduce carbon emissions in agriculture as well. In particular, in the case of greenhouses, it is an urgent issue to reduce the amount of carbon generated from heating and cooling supplied for crop cultivation. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to design an energy farm using various renewable energy sources. In this paper, the environmental measurement-monitoring system was introduced which was built in the convergence energy farm (located in Janggi-ri 1187) for the efficient and reliable operation. In addition, system optimization to increase battery life time was studied for efficient operation.

Light-adaptable display for the future advertising service

In this paper, a new light-adaptable display (LAD) structure with minimum power consumption is proposed for the future advertising service, and the demonstrated results are reported. An organic light-emitting diode with color reflection (colored OLED) was applied for the reflective- and emissivemode device, and a guest-host liquid-crystal device (GH-LC) was adopted for the light shutter device. The current efficiency and reflectance of the colored OLED were 35.15 cd/A at 457 cd/m2 luminance and 63% for the yellow color, respectively. The measured contrast ratio of GH-LC was 15.5:1 at darkroom conditions, respectively. Transparent oxide thin-film transistors were used for the backplane, and their average mobility was 9.08 cm2/V s, with a 0.5 standard deviation. Through the optimization of the fabrication process and the structures of each device, the LAD adaptively operating according to the environmental illuminance from dark to 10,000 nits was successfully demonstrated. Moreover, a new LAD driving method was proposed for minimizing the power consumption.

Presented is a flexible dual-mode display operable in reflective and emissive mode according to ambient light for optimal visibility on a nonplanar surface. Flexible-backplane-embedding organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), thin-film transistors (TFTs), and control electrodes for liquid crystal (LC) shutter are realized by the laser lift-off (LLO) method and the newly developed polyimide (PI) delamination technique. A novel color-filterless LC shutter with color dyes is merged with this flexible backplane for operation in reflective mode. This work opens up a promising approach to building displays that are adaptive to the surrounding environment for better usability.
최소침습적 금속판 내고정술을 이용한 전위된 관절 내 종골 골절의 임상적 치료결과

Purpose: This study evaluated the clinical results of surgical treatment with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis for treating displaced intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus in comparison with conventional lateral extensile approach plate osteosynthesis. Materials and Methods: Of 79 cases of Sanders type II or III calcaneus fractures, 15 cases treated with the minimally invasive calcaneal plate (group M) and 64 cases treated with lateral extensile approach calcaneal plate (group E) were identified. After successful propensity score matching considering age, sex, diabetes mellitus history, and Sanders type (1:3 ratio), 15 cases (group M) and 45 cases (group E) were matched and the demographic, radiologic, and clinical outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results: The median time of surgery from injury was 2.0 days in group M and 6.0 days in group E (p=0.014). At the six months followup, group M showed results comparable with those of group E in radiographic outcomes. In the clinical outcomes, group M showed better postoperative American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores than did group E (p=0.001, p=0.008). A greater range of subtalar motion was achieved at the six months follow-up in group M (inversion 20.0° vs. 10.0°, p=0.002; eversion 10.0° vs. 5.0°, p=0.025). Although there were no significant differences in complications between the two groups (1 [6.7%] vs. 7 [15.6%], group M vs. group E; p=0.661), there was only one sural nerve injury and no wound dehiscence and deep infection in group M. Conclusion: Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis showed superior clinical outcomes compared with that of the conventional lateral extensile approach plate osteosynthesis in Sanders type II or III calcaneus fractures. We suggest applying minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis in Sanders type II or III calcaneus fractures.

Multilayered ZnO-SnO2 heterostructure thin films consisting of ZnO and SnO2 layers are produced by alternating the pulsed laser ablation of ZnO and SnO2 targets, and their structural and field-effect electronic transport properties are investigated as a function of the thickness of the ZnO and SnO2 layers. The performance parameters of amorphous multilayered ZnO-SnO2 heterostructure thin-film transistors (TFTs) are highly dependent on the thickness of the ZnO and SnO2 layers. A highest electron mobility of 43 cm2/V∙s, a low subthreshold swing of a 0.22 V/dec, a threshold voltage of 1 V, and a high drain current on-to-off ratio of 1010 are obtained for the amorphous multilayered ZnO(1.5 nm)-SnO2(1.5 nm) heterostructure TFTs, which is adequate for the operation of next-generation microelectronic devices. These results are presumed to be due to the unique electronic structure of amorphous multilayered ZnO-SnO2 heterostructure film consisting of ZnO, SnO2, and ZnO-SnO2 interface layers.
