Purpose : To see the stability and error in the diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging technique in the experimental models and to observe the signal in the early cerebral lesions of the animal models.Materials and Methods : Diffusion coefficients of acetone and distilled water were measured by diffusion-weighted MR image and were compared with actual values. Differentiation of diffusion from perfusion were done at the resin flow phantom. The signal intensities caused by early parenchymal changes were measured in normal, hypovolemic, and embolic, and dead animal model by using diffusion-weighted image and compared with pathologic finding and vital staining.Results : Diffusion coefficients of acetone and distilled water were $4.48{\times}10^{-3}$ which were very close to the actual values. Diffusion-weighted MR image obtained at flow phantom was not affected by flow(perfusion) at the 100-400 of b-factor range. Animal study done at that b-factor range revealed a significant signal difference between the left and right sides only at the embolic model induced by polyvinyl alchol particles (p<0.05). These changes were not detected in microscopic finding but could be identified in vital staining.Conclusion : Diffusion-weighted MR image can be used to detect early parenchymal change when the appropriate b-factor range was applied.

The computational fluid dynamics methods for the limited flow rate and the small dimensions of an intracranial artery stenosis may help demonstrate the stroke mechanism in intracranial atherosclerosis. We have modeled the high wall shear stress (WSS) in a severe M1 stenosis. The high WSS in the systolic phase of the cardiac cycle was well-correlated with a thick fibrous cap atheroma with enhancement, as was determined using high-resolution plaque imaging techniques in a severe stenosis of the middle cerebral artery.

In vivo 31P NMR spectra were obtained in eight infant brain at 4.7T. Each phosphorus metabolite and its ratio were analyzed to evaluate the brain damage and maturity, and compared with the reported data obtained at the lower field strength, Measurement of T1 relaxation time at 4.7T was done in an infant and a cat brain invivo. PCr/Pi and PCr/$\beta$-ATP ratio were used as a marker of brain damage. PME/PDE revealed higher values than those of the reported data obtained at the lower field strength and the defference was partly attributed to the long T1 relaxation time of PME rather than the brain immaturity. Although the resolution of the spectrum was improved at 4.7T, a long repetition time is recommended to minimize T1 difference of phosphorus metabolites of brain at 4.7T.
운동성 마비가 합병된 무균성 뇌막염 환자엣의 자기공명영상 소견

무균성 뇌막염에 의한 운동성 마비는 드물게 보고되고 있는데 저자들은 최근 운동성마비가 합병된 무균성 뇌막염 환자 3명에서의 자기공명영상 소견을 얻었다. 이 중 2명에서는 척수의 전각세포 부위에서 전각세포 부위에서 괴사를 시사하는 조그만 두 개의 둥근 병변이 관찰되었고 나머지 한명에서는 분절성의 위축이 관찰되었다. 이들 중 2명의 혈청에서는 enterovirus 71의 항체가 상승되어 있었다.
