Purpose: To evaluate the effect of additional retrobulbar triamcinolone acetonide (TA) injection on early recovery of visual acuity in retrobulbar optic neuritis patients. Methods: A prospective, randomized clinical study including 30 patients with retrobulbar optic neuritis was conducted between March 2003 and June 2007. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n = 9) with retrobulbar triamcinolone (TA, 40 mg/1 ml) injection on the first day of ONTT protocol, and group 2 (n = 21) with conventional ONTT protocol. The following parameters were measured and analyzed: patient’s sex, age, pupillary reactions, color vision, visual field, and best-corrected visual acuity before treatment, and after 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months of follow-up. Results: Mean visual acuity before treatment was 1.00 ± 0.89 log MAR units in group 1 and 0.98 ± 0.75 log MAR units in group 2. One day after injection, visual acuity was better in group 1 (0.50 ± 0.42 log MAR units) than in group 2 (0.73 ± 0.61 log MAR units), however, there was no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.07). There was no significant difference in visual acuity, recovery of RAPD, color vision, or visual field at 3 months of follow-up. No serious side effect related to retrobulbar TA injection was observed. Conclusions: Additional retrobulbar TA injection may help optic neuritis patients who have a need for prompt visual recovery. However, further studies are required to ascertain whether this procedure can help early recovery of visual acuity in retrobulbar optic neuritis patients.

Objectives : To compare the quality improvement of the abstracts of original articles, according to the revised manuscript format, of the Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine (Korean J Pre Med) was adopted in 1999. Methods : A total 63 abstracts for 1997, and 49 for 2001, were selected as the original articles from the Kor J Pre Med. This study was carried out by the separate-sample pretest-posttest design. The quality of the abstracts was measured by a checklist of Narine' evaluation criteria, and the other information related to the articles were also surveyed by e-mail and fax or telephone using a self-made Questionnaire, From the response rate, a total of 62 abstracts for 1997 and 49 for 2901 were finally analyzed. Results : The mean number of words in an abstract decreased from 285 in 1997, to 250 by 2001. The mean number of key words per abstract decreased from 3.9 in 1997, to 3.6 by 2001. The mean number of inappropriate usage of key words per abstract, by the MeSH standard, decreased from 1.9 in 1997, to 0.4 by 2001 Also, the overall mean score of abstract quality increased from 0.54 in 1997 to 0.61 by 2001. The range of scores for the abstract quality was better in 2001 ($0.40{\sim}0.77$) than in 1997 ($0.20{\sim}0.81$). From the multiple regression analyses of the 1997 and 2001 databases, the intervention of the manuscript format's revision, and the number of English words to the quality score of the .abstract, were the only statistically significant factors, Conclusions : In conclusion, the quality of abstracts in the Kor J Pre Med has improved since the revised manuscript format was adopted in 1999. The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine will continuously recommend proposals for more informative abstracts in their journal, and will evaluate the abstracts' content with quality criteria. Future studies should address these issues, and compare the quality of abstracts between different international and domestic journals.
강원도내 일부 초,중,고등학교의 금연에 대한 건강증진정책의 조사연구

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of health promotion policies about antismoking, and the relationship between policy status, enforcement of smoking restrictions and perceptions of smoking behaviour among teachers. A representative sample of 173 teachers·school inspectors from 150 elementary·middle·high schools in Gangwon-do was surveyed during Gangwon-do Office of Education`s antismoking and temperance training course in 2002 (response rate 60.7%). One staff member from each school was also analyzed regarding school antismoking polices for students and teachers in several locations within and outside the school building. The results showed that 118 elementary·middle·high schools (78.7%) had an antismoking policy and more schools had a written policy on student antismoking than on teacher antismoking. Most schools (92.4%) in the sample banned smoking by students, but 52 schools (44.1%) allowed smoking by teachers in restricted areas. However, teachers reported seeing smoking sometimes in the toilets (42.7%) or the playground (40.0%) among students and sometimes in the staff room (31.3%) or about every day on school premises (52.7%) among teachers. Irrespective of the type of policy or restrictions on smoking, the association between having a ban on student/teacher smoking and teachers` perceptions of student/teacher smoking in school was not significant. In conclusion, we suggest that most schools must have explicitly an antismoking policy on both students & teachers and enforce consistently a ban in promoting a healthy school environment (smoke-free schools).

본 연구에서는 과열증기를 이용한 열처리 공정 제어 방법을 설계하고 적용하였다. 170°C, 0.4 MPa 조건의 과열증기에서 약 10시간 동안 열처리한 잣나무 판재의 물리 및 역학적 성질 변화를 무처리재 및 220°C 상압조건에서 일반 열처리한 목재와 비교하였다. 과열증기 처리재는 무처리재에 비해서 수분 흡습량 및 평형함수율이 낮아졌으며, 종압축 강도 및 휨 강도가 증가하였다. 흡습성은 일반 열처리재와 비슷하였으며, 일반 열처리 시발생하기 쉬운 내부 할렬은 발생하지 않았다. 또한 과열증기 처리에 의해서 잣나무 내부에 있는 다량의 송진이 제거되는 효과도 나타내었다. In this study, the method for heat treating wood using superheated steam (SHS) was designed and applied. The physical and mechanical properties of Korean Pine (Pinus koraiensis Siebold & Zucc.) lumber heat-treated by SHS at 170°C and 0.4 MPa for 10 hours were compared with those of non-treated and normal heat-treated wood. The amount of adsorbed water and equilibrium moisture content of the SHS treated wood were lower than non-treated wood. On the other hand the compressive strength parallel to grain and the bending strength of SHS treated wood were higher than those of non-treated wood. The hygroscopicity of SHS treated wood was similar to normal heat treated wood at 220°C. Internal checks that often occur during normal heat treatment were not developed at SHS treatment. Also, SHS treatment are effective in control of internal checks occurrence and resin exudation.

In RFID systems, the anti-collision algorithm is being improved to recognize Tag's ID within recognition area of the reader quickly and efficiently. This paper focuses on Tag collision. Many studies have been carried out to resolve Tag collision. This paper proposes a new N-ary Query Tree Algorithm to resolve more than Tag collision simultaneously, according to the value of m(2~6). This algorithm can identify more tags than existing methods by treating a maximum 6 bit collision, regardless of the continuation/non-continuation Tag's ID patterns. So, it extracts maximumly different 2⁶ bit patterns per single prefix in recognition process. The performance of N-ary Query Tree Algorithm is evaluated by theoretical analysis and simulation program.

본 논문에서는 트리 기반의 타임 슬롯을 사용한 하이브리드 쿼리 트리 구조를 제안한다. 제안 알고리즘은 8-ary tree 구조이며, 리더의 질의에 대한 태그 ID 응답 시, 디지털 코딩 방식을 Manchester 코드를 적용하여, 충돌 위치와 충돌 비트수를 검출할 수 있다. 또한 이 알고리즘은 고정된 4개의 슬롯을 사용하여, 한 번의 질의에 다수의 태그를 인식할 수 할 수 있다. 제안 알고리즘은 리더가 응답 받는 태그 ID의 첫 번째 비트 ([prefix+1]<SUP>th</SUP>, F ∈ {‘0’ or ‘1’})와 태그 ID의 두 번째 ~ 세 번째 비트([prefix+2]<SUP>th</SUP> ~ [prefix+3]<SUP>th</SUP>, B2 ∈ {“00” or “11”}, B1 ∈ {“01” or “10”})에서 비트 충돌 패턴을 이용해 4개의 타임 슬롯에 응답하게 함으로써, 한 번에 8개의 태그를 인식할 수 있다. 본 논문은 알고리즘의 질의 노드(prefix) 수의 worst case를 분석하여 다중 태그를 인식하는데 걸리는 지연 시간을 추출한다. 제안 알고리즘의 인식 지연 시간은 질의-응답 수와 질의 비트 수를 기준으로 하며, 각 알고리즘의 수식을 바탕으로 산출하였다. In this paper, we propose tree-based hybrid query tree architecture utilizing time slot. 4-Bit Pattern Slot Allocation(4-SL) has a 8-ary tree structure and when tag ID responses according to query of the reader, it applies a digital coding method, the Manchester code, in order to extract the location and the number of collided bits. Also, this algorithm can recognize multiple Tags by single query using 4 fixed time slots. The architecture allows the reader to identify 8 tags at the same time by responding 4 time slots utilizing the first bit([prefix+1]<SUP>th</SUP>, F ∈ {‘0’ or ‘1’}) and bit pattern from second ~ third bits([prefix+2]<SUP>th</SUP> ~ [prefix+3]<SUP>th</SUP>, B2 ∈ {“00” or “11”}, B1 ∈ {“01” or “10”}) in tag ID. we analyze worst case of the number of query nodes(prefix) in algorithm to extract delay time for recognizing multiple tags. The identification delay time of the proposed algorithm was based on the number of query-responses and query bits, and was calculated by each algorithm.
