The head of the Jindo, Korean native dog was measured in the present study. One hundred and ninety five Jindoes were randomly selected from the 1,985 dogs in the Jindo County in August 1998, which were screened by the judging committee of the County and registered by inserting electronic chips in the withers. They were about one and a half-year-old, and were white and fawn dogs. The head was divided into three parts; the skull, ear and nose. Each part was divided again, and a total of 14 parts of the head were measured using calipers. Measurements of the skull part and skull index were bigger in dogs than in bitches, but no differences were found between sexes. No differences were found in the measurements of the ear part between sexes or coat colors, except the distance between two ears in which the distance was longer in dogs than in bitches. In the measurements of the nose, the width of rostral part was larger in fawns than in whites and in dogs than in bitches. The rest were larger in dogs than in bitches.

In the present study, literatures pertaining to the Jindo, Korean native dog were reviewed and the types of their tails put in order. And one hundred and eighty nine Jindoes were randomly selected from the 1,985 dogs in the Jindo county in August 1998, which were screened by the judging committee of the County and registered by inserting electronic chips in the withers. They were between a year and half and three years old, and were white and fawn dogs. The tail type was recorded and the length of the tail measured. The relationships between the tail types and the measurements of several parts of the body which are related to the movement of the dog were analyzed. The Jindoes in the present study have three types of tail; rolled, sickle-shaped, and pole-shaped. The rolled tail was most frequent, followed by sickle-shaped and pole-shaped tail. The rolled tail was longer than the pole-shaped tail. The length of the tau was longer in dogs (29.6cm) than in bitches (27.1 cm), but no differences were found between coat colors. The body length: tail length and hip height: tail length were bigger in dogs than in bitches The body length ratio of pole-shaped tail was smaller than the other two types of tails.

In contrast with the earth-anchored type suspension bridge, the self-anchored type suspension bridge is in general constructed by tying the vertical hangers to the stiffening girder before tying the hangers. In this structural system, the initial tension force should be applied to the hangers. During the tying process, the cable force transmitted from the hangers to the girder varies continuously. Due to the force variations of the hangers and the main cables, the self-anchored type suspension bridge is considered as the structural system whose structural behavior differs in each construction stage. In this paper, the initial configuration of the bridge loaded by the self-weight of the structure is found by the geometrically nonlinear structural analysis. The fatigue train load and the fatigue truck load can be applied to the position producing a maximum stress range at the critical section. the maximum stress ranges are compared with the allowable fatigue stress ranges specified in the several foreign bridge design specification, and fatigue design of the orthotropic steel plate deck is also studied.

This study was carried out to investigate the genetic characteristics and specitic genetic marker of Han Woo cattle by random amplified polymorphic DNAs(RAPD) and restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) using the PCR method. According to the results of RAPD using 48 kinds of primer, band patterns were almost same regardless of cattle breeds. However, some particular patterns were dected only from Han Woo cattle. The band patterns were not afFected by the condition of PCR. Therefore, it can be speculated that the band patterns can be employed as a specific marker for Han Woo cattle. After extraction of genomic DNA from 20 Han Woo cattle and 21 Holsteins, the second exon of BOLA-DRB3 gene was amplified by specific primer by PCR. And then after cutting these amplified PCR products by three kinds of restriction enzyme RFLP patterns were investigated. Interestingly, we could detect two novel BOLA-DRB3 genotypes, which has not been reported so far. The newly detected genotypes were designated as BOLA-DRB3 kor 1 and BOLA-DRB3 kor 2. Therefore, it can be considered that BOLA-DRB3 kor 1 and BOLA-DRB3 kor 2 could be utilized as a specific markers which can distinguish Han Woo cattle from the other breeds.
