This paper explores the Korean ethnic church members’ attitudes toward the English translation service of the Sunday worship service for Korean immigrant youth in Montreal. This study also investigates the relationship between the adoption of the translation service and the Korean language and culture maintenance. The study involved qualitative interviews, a questionnaire, on-site document analysis, and participant observation. The participants (n=21 in total) were Korean immigrant students between the ages of 13 and 19, who attend a Korean ethnic church in Montreal (n=8), Korean immigrant adult church members (n=10), pastors of the church (n=2), and a translator of the service (n=1). This study confirms Korean ethnic church members’ positive attitudes towards the English translation service for keeping the Korean immigrant youth within the church. In addition, the study shows that the adoption of the translation service helps the Korean immigrant youth maintain the Korean language and cultural identity. Thus, this study suggests that the translation service should be a strategic choice for Korean ethnic churches to keep Korean immigrant youth without the sacrifice of the Korean language as their heritage language. Some implications for immigrant youth’s Korean language maintenance as a heritage language in Canada are briefly touched on.

Background: The clinical efficacy of preoperative 2D-echocardiographic assessment of pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) has not been evaluated fully in liver transplantation (LT) recipients.Methods: From October 2010 to February 2017, a total of 344 LT recipients who underwent preoperative 2D-echocardiography and intraoperative right heart catheterization (RHC) was enrolled and stratified according to etiology, disease progression, and clinical setting. The correlation of right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) on preoperative 2D-echocardiography with mean and systolic PAP on intraoperative RHC was evaluated, and the predictive value of RVSP > 50 mmHg to identify mean PAP > 35 mmHg was estimated.Results: In the overall population, significant but weak correlations were observed (R = 0.27; P < 0.001 for systolic PAP, R = 0.24; P < 0.001 for mean PAP). The positive and negative predictive values of RVSP > 50 mmHg identifying mean PAP > 35 mmHg were 37.5% and 49.9%, respectively. In the subgroup analyses, correlations were not significant in recipients of deceased donor type LT (R = 0.129; P = 0.224 for systolic PAP, R = 0.163; P = 0.126 for mean PAP) or in recipients with poorly controlled ascites (R = 0.215; P = 0.072 for systolic PAP, R = 0.21; P = 0.079 for mean PAP). Conclusion: In LT recipients, the correlation between RVSP on preoperative 2D-echocardiography and PAP on intraoperative RHC was weak; thus, preoperative 2D-echocardiography might not be the optimal tool for predicting intraoperative PAP. In LT candidates at risk of pulmonary hypertension, RHC should be considered.

This study aims to compare two Korean immigrant communities, namely, Korean community in Toronto and Korean community in Montreal in what it concerns the possible parental attitudes and behaviors linked to heritage language maintenance. Data collection took place over a two month period. The participants were 22 first generation immigrant parents of Korean communities in both cities (i.e., 9 participants from Toronto & 13 participants from Montreal). One-on-one in-depth semi-guided interviews were employed. The results of this study reveal that Korean immigrant parents’ expectations for their children’s proficiency level in the Korean language are very high in both cities and both groups of parents want their children to preserve the Korean language in order for them to maintain cultural and ethnic identity, have practical advantages with multilingual skills for their future career choices, and have better relationships with other Koreans and relatives. This study provides a picture of differences in linguistic environments that exist between linguistic conceptions, attitudes and expectations of members of different communities. Overall, this picture contribute to the understanding of a complex problem of heritage language maintenance in different linguistic environments. (Dankook University)

This study proposes an articulated robot control system using an on/off-line robot graphic simulator with multiple networks. The proposed robot control system consists of a robot simulator using OpenGL, a robot controller based on a DSP(TMS320) motion board, and the server/client communication by multiple networks. Each client can control the real robot through a server and can compare the real robot motion with the virtual robot motion in the simulation. Also, all clients can check and analyze the robot motion simultaneously through the motion image and data of the real robot. In order to show the validity of the presented system, we present an experimental result for a 6-axis vertical articulated robot. The proposed robot control system is useful, especially, in the industrial fields using remote robot control as well as industrial production automation with many clients.

CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) 기술을 이용한 인레이 및 여러 고정성 보철물의 제작이 보편화되고 구강내 스캐너가 널리 보급되면서 디지털 치의학의 개념이 치과 보철학 분야 전반에 적용되고 있다. 그러나 가철성 보철 부분에서는 디지털 개념의 적용이 쉽지 않으며 기존의 주조 방식에 많이 의존하고 있다. 따라서 가철성 보철물의 제작 과정에 이런 개념을 적용해보려는 시도는 중요한 의미가 있다. 본 증례에서는 하악 Kennedy class III 무치악 환자에서 보철적, 심미적 요구에 의한 교합고경의 증가와 함께 CAD 및 쾌속조형술(RP, rapid prototyping)을 이용한 가철성 국소의치를 제작하였다. CAD를 이용하여 서베잉 및 국소의치 금속 구조물을 설계하였으며, 쾌속조형술은 금속 구조물을 주조하기 위한 레진 패턴 제작에 이용하였다. 9개월 간의 임상적 관찰 기간 동안 만족스러운 심미적, 기능적 결과를 얻어 이를 보고하고자 한다. Nowadays, digital dentistry is generally applied to prosthodontics with fabrication of inlays or any other fixed prostheses by utilizing CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology and intraoral scanner. However, in fabricating removable prosthesis, there are some limitations for digital technology to substitute conventional casting method. Therefore, approaching removable prostheses fabrication with CAD/CAM technology would be a meaningful trial. In this case report, Kennedy class III mandibular edentulous patient who was in need of increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion was treated with removable partial denture using CAD and rapid prototyping technique. Surveying and designing the metal framework of the partial denture was performed with CAD, and sacrificial plastic pattern was fabricated with rapid prototyping technique. During the follow up period of nine months, the removable partial denture has provided satisfactory results in esthetics and function.
편파 회전을 이용한 100/150 GHz 대역용 단측파대 여파기의 제작 및 성능측정

We have made the single side hand filter for the dual channel receiver which is a heterodyne receiver to observe the cosmic radio waves with 100GHz band ranged from 85GHz to 115GHz and 150GHz band ranged from 125GHz to 175GHz simultaneously. We have introduced the filter theory using the principle of the Martion-Puplett interferometer, which has the characteristics of rotated polarization. To reduce the loss of the transmission and beam coupling which are caused from the path difference associated with the intermediate frequency the design and the implementation have been intensely considered. The receiver needs two filters with different characteristics each other. Because each of them has the optimum positions as a function frequency at which the signal frequency is fed to mixer and the image frequency is rejected to the image termination load. The intermediate frequency and its band width have been also evaluated. We have measured the property of two filters using the vector network analyser and the beam measurement system which is made by us. The responses of the filter as a function of the position and the frequency are compared with the theory. It is shown that not only the measured values are very close to the theoretical values, but also the image rejection ratios are better than 22dB for both filters. Through successful observation using a dual channel receiver with two manufactured filters, the performance of the filters has finally verified. 85-115GHz 주파수 범위의 100GHz 대역과 125-175GHz 주파수 범위를 갖는 150GHz 대역을 동시에 관측하기 위한 헤테로다인 방식의 이중채널 수신기에 사용될 단측파대 여파기의 이론을 제시하고 이를 근거로 설계, 제작한 후 성능을 측정하였다. 여파기의 이론은 편파 회전 특성을 갖는 Martin-Puplett 간섭계의 원리를 도입하여 전개하였다. 설계와 제작은 빔의 전송손실을 최소화하고 중간주파수와 관련된 경로차를 고려하여 두 빔의 결합 손실을 최소화하는데 주안점을 두었다. 두 주파수 대역을 동시에 관측하기 위해서는 우주전파가 각각 다른 빔의 경로로 전송되어야 하므로 두 개의 단측파대 여파기가 각각 제작되었다. 주파수에 따른 여파기의 이론적인 최적 경로차와 중간주파수 및 대역폭을 계산하였다. 네트웍 분석기와 자체에서 제작한 빔 측정장치를 이용하여 여파기의 성능을 측정하고 이론치와 비교하였다. 주파수에 따른 최적 경로차에 대한 이론치와 측정치를 비교해 본 결과 거의 일치하는 특성을 보여 제시된 설계 이론의 타당성과 정밀한 제작이 검증되었고, 두 대역 여파기의 이미지 제거비는 약 22dB이상을 갖는 우수한 성능을 보였다. 제작된 여파기는 이중채널 수신기에 설치되어 우주전파를 성공적으로 관측함으로서 그 성능이 입증되었다.
