The community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in the fine sediments of freshwater was analyzed according to varioussampling tools and methods. The sediment core with the inner diameter of 7.5 cm was more effective in cost and labor incomparison to that of Φ 5 cm or Φ 10 cm. The number of species increased with the increase in sample size (replicates). Whenit was collected five times with the Φ 7.5 cm sediment core, Shannon-Weaver's diversity and McNaughton’s dominance of thesample reached about the 80 % level of the community estimates. Most species appeared in the sediment layer of 0-4 cm, andthere were no newly recruited species below the depth of 4 cm. Individual abundance of benthic macroinvertebrates decreasedexponentially along with the increase in sediment depth. Compared with the individual abundance of the 0-15 cm sedimentlayer, the abundance was 60 % in the 0-2 cm layer, 25 % in the 2-4 cm layer, 10 % in the 4-6 cm layer and 95 % in the 0-6 cmlayer. Compared with organisms collected with the sieve of 0.2 mm pore, the number of species and the individual abundancesifted through the sieve with pore of 1 mm were 36 % and 88 %, and those with pore of 0.5 mm were 5 % and 55 %,respectively.

This study aims to analyze the changes in the benthic macroinvertebrate community before and after a restoration project in a eutrophic stream. Species diversity and species richness increased at the points where the channel changed from standing water to running water. However, species diversity and richness decreased at the points where only riparian restoration was implemented, and the concentration of suspended solids increased, while biochemical oxygen demand and total phosphorus decreased and the concentration of dissolved oxygen increased. In such reaches, functional feeding groups went from collector-filterers to collector-gatherers, and habitat orientation groups changed from clingers to burrowers.

Two crinoid specimens of genus Tropiometra were collected from Busan and Tongyeong by SCUBA diving on August 2010 and October 2011, respectively. The specimens were identified as Tropiometra macrodiscus (Hara, 1895), which belongs to the family Tropiometridae of superfamily Tropiometroidea. The genus Tropiometra AH Clark, 1907 comprises four species worldwide at present, and it has not been reported in Korea. Tropiometra macrodiscus was first described by Hara (1895) in Japan. It is difficult to distinguish T. macrodiscus from T. afra (Hartlaub, 1890), there has been confusion with examination of their phylogenetic positions in crinoid morphological classification. Despite this, T. macrodiscus can be distinguished from T. afra based on longer arms, stouter whole-body parts, magnificently larger numbers of cirrus, and numerous segments. The morphological characteristics of T. macrodiscus collected in Korea have been described, and DNA barcode region representing cytochrome c oxidase subunit I was obtained for its molecular phylogenetic analysis.
법적지정 생태계교란생물의 사육 현황과 관리 개선 방안 - 리버쿠터와 중국줄무늬목거북을 중심으로

외래생물은 경제 목적으로 수입되었으나, 최근에는 애완용으로 수입되는 사례가 증가하고 있다. 애완동물로 선호도가 높아진 리버쿠터와 중국줄무늬목거북은 2014년부터 사육개체수가 서서히 증가하다가 2017년에 180개체, 2019년에는 281개체를 기록하여 최대로 증가하였다. 그러나 수명이 긴 거북의 특성과 사육여건의 변화로 자연으로 버려진 개체가 발견되었다. 방출된 개체의 생태계위해성 평가를 통해 생물다양성법에 의해 생태계교란 생물로 지정되었다. 따라서 해당 거북 사육자가 계속 사육을 원할 경우 ‘생태계교란 생물 사육유예 허가 신청서’를 제출하여야 한다. 본 연구는 2020년 3월부터 9월까지 6개월간 접수된 신청서의 정보 (사육 시설의 적합성, 거북 개체수, 사육기간, 획득 방법, 사육자 지역 분포 현황 등)를 분석하고, 사육상태를 검토 결과를 제시하였다. 신청서는 총 614건이 접수되었으며, 사육자의 58%만이 적합한 사육상태를 조성한 것으로 평가되었기 때문에 사육자를 대상으로 동물복지 실현을 위해 적절한 사육 정보 제공과 생태계교란 예방을 위한 유기방지 교육이 필요한 것으로 사료된다. 또한, 신청서 내의 누락된 항목이 다수 발견된 점과 단발적인 신청에 따른 허가 방식으로 인한 문제 발생에 대비하여 대응방안을 만들고 지속적인 모니터링이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. Exotic species have been imported for economic purposes, but more recently, an increasing number of animals are imported as pets. With the increasing popularity of two species of turtles, Mauremys sinensis and Pseudemys concinna, the number of pet turtle owners has gradually increased since 2014. The number of turtles increased by 180 in 2017 and 281 in 2019. However, these turtle species have been abandoned to nature, owing to their long lifespans and the changes in conditions of pet owners. The two turtle species have been designated as invasive alien species (AIS) in Korea considering their ecological risks, and the Biological Diversity Act prohibits their release. The owners of Mauremys sinensis and Pseudemys concinna are required to submit the “Application for Approval of Breeding and Grace for AIS” document. In this study, the breeding conditions for the two turtle species were investigated by analyzing the information in the submitted applications for six months (e.g., the suitability of breeding facilities, number of turtles, breeding period, type of pet adoption, and local district of pet owner). A total of 614 cases were analyzed. Because only 58% of breeders provided suitable breeding conditions, breeding information and responsible pet ownership training should be offered to prevent abandonment in natural ecosystems. In addition, continuous monitoring is necessary to prepare for potential problems caused by the lack of information in many applications and the one-off licensing policy.

The Suwon stream which consists of a mountainous reach, an artificial reservoir and an urban reach provides benthic macroinvertebrates with various habitats. This study was conducted to find out the influence of reservor sluice control and water quality on benthic macroinvertebrates community in the Suwon stream from June to August, 2011. As a result, substrate composition showed little difference between the upper site (S2) and the lower site of the reservoir (S3). At site S3, water velocity was fastest, and water temperature was lowest due to the intermediate depth discharge of the reservoir. Cheumatopsyche brevilineata which prefer fast water velocity was dominant at site S3. Some biotic indices (H, J, and R) of site S3 decreased significantly whereas Benthic Macroinvertebrate Index (BMI) showed little difference between site S2 and site S3. EPT showed a negative correlation with water temperature. The sluice control of the reservoir leaded variations of water velocity and temperature, and seemed to make the state of aquatic ecosystem worse.
