A survey to determine the characteristics of groundwater qualities in Kangwon-Do, which was divided 4 regions, was conducted from January to December in 1994. The results showed that the pesticides and chlorinated ethenes were not detected in the potable groundwater. But ca. 40% of the groundwaters were not satisfied the Korea Drinking Water Quality Standards because of the microbiological aspects, nitrates and Zinc, etc. The concentrations of pH, Zinc and consumption of KMnO₄ were not varied much, but the variation of the concentrations for chlorides and nitrates in each region were relatively high. Also the seasonal changes for the hardness and sulfates were within 10%, while the nitrates and chlorides were ranged from 15.5% to 18.0% in Chuncheon.

Acyclovir 정주요법에도 불구하고 출생 2개월 이내에 2회 재발되었던 HSV 2형에 의한 신생아 SEM 질환의 치료 및 발생억제를 위한 지속적인 경구용 acyclovir 억제요법을 실시하여 장기간 억제효과를 보았던 재발성 HSV 감염 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Neonatal herpes simplex virus(HSV) infections result in significant morbidity and mortality. Although acyclovir treatment has improved survival, severe neurological sequelae can occur in the majority of survivors. HSV infections limited to the skin, eyes and mouth(SEM) can cause neurologic impairment. A direct correlation exists between the development of neurologic deficits and the frequency of cutaneous HSV recurrences. National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases(NIAID) Collaborative Antiviral Study Group conducted a phase I/II trial of continuous oral acyclovir therapy for the suppression of cutaneous recurrences. We describe a preterm infant who had two recurrences after neonatal SEM disease had been treated with intravenous acyclovir, and there were no more recurrences after continuous oral acyclovir suppressive therapy for six months. We report this case with a review of related literature.

Methylene blue method has been mainly used for the analysis of anion surfactants which are an influential pollutant in rivers. But this method have various defects, because its analysis procedure needs long pretreating time. In this study, methylene blue method of anion surfactants was compared with the Co-PADAP method using a bit solvent to simplify the procedures. It was concluded that there is no significant difference between the two methods, so Co-PADAP method must be adapted to the Korean Standard Methods.

A study was conducted to investigate the behavior of phosphorus forms at each stage in the sewage treatment processes. The total phosphorus concentration of the domestic wastewater in the sewage plant was 3.5㎎/ℓ and distribution of total reactive phosphorus (TRP), total acid-hydrolyzable phosphorus(THP) and total organic phosphorus(TOP) in the T P concentration was about 42%, 25% and 33%, respectively. The T-P concentration in the grit chamber was about 8 times higher than that in domestic wastewater, under the influence of inflowing thickner and digester supernatant. The removal ratios of THP and TOP at sewage plant were about 65%, 75%, respectively. It was found that the removed phosphorus forms were mostly SHP and SOP, but TRP was not removed at ail. The amount of T-P flowed into the sewage plant was 51.7㎏/10,000㎥/day, that removed by the sewage treatment processes was 23.0㎏/10,000㎥/day that loaded to lake was 28.7㎏/ 10,000㎥/day.

To establish the efficient removal scheme of anion surfactants from car washing wastewater, the optimal conditions of aeration rate, duration of aeration and temperature were estimated. Anion surfactants in car washing wastewater was removed about 60% by the simple aeration(1.6ℓair/min for 7ℓ of wastewater), and the higher aeration rate was required at low temperature to get the similar removal rate. Considering the in situ temperature(10∼20℃), the aeration must be kept for 5∼6 hrs. Combining the biological method to the conventional method, the high removal rate more than 80% of anion surfactants could be achieved.

DMAC is an energy efficiency and low latency protocol designed for data gathering tree structures. However, it causes the funneling effect which is many-to-one traffic patterns in tree structures, consequently, results in packet collisions, losses, and energy consumptions in low depth nodes. In this paper, we present an energy efficient MAC protocol with fairness-based scheduling to avoid the funneling effect of DMAC protocol. By using traffic information from children nodes, our protocol dynamically adjusts duty cycles of last-depth nodes to mitigate overloaded packets in the vicinity of the sink node. Therefore, we expect our protocol to save more energy and achieve better packet delivery ratio, compared to DMAC protocol.
강원도내 주요하천 수계별 목표수질 설정 및 달성도 연구

Since 1985, the Gangwon Institute of Health and Environment(GIHE) and Ministry of Environment have collected rivers and streams water quality data in an ambient surface water monitering program. This study was prepared to propose an achievement of water quality of rivers subject to management by area according to an created level while establishing a water quality level applicable to the Gangwon area. As a result of evaluating correlativity on the BOD-based water quality data, BOD versus TP, and TP versus SS demonstrated significance at a confidence level of 95%. Evaluating correlativity on $10{\sim}90$ percentile values of analyzed data, a coefficient of determination, $r^{2}$ of BOD versus TP, and TP versus SS were 0.625, 0.286 respectively. Grading the results by evaluation method, the representative values of TP were 0.030 mg/l for I level, 0.100 mg/l for II level, 0.200 mg/l for Ill level, 0.300 mg/l for IV level, and 0.350 mg/l for V level, and those of SS were indicated 4.0 mg/l for I level, 15.0 mg/l for II level, 30.0 mg/l for III level, 45.0 mg/l for IV level, and 60.0 mg/l for V level. As for the limiting factor allowing the water quality standard exceeded, BOD posted 61% as the factor was found in 11 places, TP 28%, and SS 33%.
