Chest discomfort is the main manifestation of the valvular disease. We treated 76 year-old male valvular disease patient with chest discomfort by Hyungbangjihwang Tang. The patient complained chest discomfort, insomnia, and feeling of thirsty due to moderate mitral and aortic valve regurgitation. After 3 days since beginnig of treatment, we observed the patient's chest discomfort improved and as condition being better, other symptoms disappered with chest discomfort such as insomnia, feeling of thirsty.
Hopfield 신경회로망을 이용한 모델 기반형 3차원 물체 인식

In this paper, a enw model-base three-dimensional (3-D) object recognition mehtod using hopfield network is proposed. To minimize deformation of feature values on 3-D rotation, we select 3-D shape features and 3-D relational features which have rotational invariant characteristics. Then these feature values are normalized to have scale invariant characteristics, also. The input features are matched with model features by optimization process of hopjfield network in the form of two dimensional arrayed neurons. Experimental results on object classification and object matching with the 3-D rotated, scale changed, an dpartial oculued objects show good performance of proposed method.

Because syndrome-differentiation is one of the major characteristics in oriental medicine, there would be a possibility that the same herbal medicine show different effects on the same disease, if syndrome differentiation is ignored. In this report, we observed different response of Yukmijihwang-tang in diabetic stroke patients according to their syndrome differentiation. One case diagnosed as 'Kidney-yin deficiency syndrome' showed remarkable improvement on diabetes mellitus, whereas the serum glucose levels of the other 4 cases diagnosed as 'non Kidney-yin deficiency syndrome' were lowered little. These results are in accordance with the oriental medical theory that Yukmijihwang-tang can treat 'Kidney-yin deficiency syndrome'. Therefore, we suggest that subsequent clinical trials on oriental medicine would have to include the concept of differentiation of syndromes in order to take out the merit of oriental medicine.
Chunghyul-dan acts as an anti-inflammatory agent in endothelial cells by regulating gene expression

Chunghyul-dan (CHD) is a combinatorial drug known to exert anti-inflammatory effects in endothelial cells. In this study, we employed global transcriptional profiling using cDNA microarrays to identify molecular mechanisms responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity of CHD in endothelial cells. An analysis of the microarray data revealed that transcript levels of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), vascular cell-adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1) and activated leukocyte cell-adhesion molecule were dramatically altered in CHD-treated endothelial cells. These changes in gene expression were confirmed by RT-PCR, Western blotting and ELISA. Chronic CHD treatment also appeared to decrease MCP-1 secretion, probably as a result of decreased MCP-1 expression. In addition, we determined that chronic CHD treatment inhibited lipopolysaccharide-stimulated adhesion of THP-1leukocytes to endothelial cells. The inhibitory effect of CHD on LPS-stimulated adhesion resulted from downregulation of VCAM-1 expression. Transmigration of THP-1 leukocytes through endothelial cells was also inhibited by chronic CHD treatment. In conclusion, CHD controls a variety of inflammatory activities by regulating MCP-1and VCAM-1 gene expression.

Objectives:With an assumption of traditional oriental medical theory, to evaluate the effect of tonification/sedation manipulative acupuncture on blood pressure in male normotensives. Methods:This study was a randomized cross-over trial. We enrolled healthy male normotensive subjects, and assigned them randomly to group A or group B. Group A received acupuncture therapy on Shen-Men (He-7) and Nei-Kuan (EH-6) with tonification-manipulation, while group B received it with sedation-manipulation. Blood pressure was assessed every ten minutes for 2 hours. After 3 days of washout period, the subjects were crossed over to the other manipulation, and the same procedures were performed. Results:We observed that blood pressure stimulated by the sedation-manipulation had a tendency to decrease compared to that by the tonification-manipulation. Conclusions:We suggest the sedation manipulation has more synergic effect with the inhibitory effects of Shen-Men and Nei-Kuan on the sympathetic nervous system than the tonification-manipulation.
